Condado/Isla Verde/Ocean Beach tradeoffs  (1 Answer)

I'm going to the San Juan area with my 16-year-old-daughter for about ten days on Aug. 1 (before being joined by my wife & doing some island travel), and am having difficulty getting a clear picture of the differences among these three beaches and their respective communities. The primary objective will be relaxing and swimming at the beach, maybe trying some different watersports and other local activities(trip into OSJ, taking in some traditional dance, etc.). With a teenager, I'm obviously not interested in the club or casino scene, and I'm not a Las-Vegas-glitter type anyway. We can afford budget-to-moderate accomodations, up to about160. I've heard that the Condado beach is not real clean, that Isla Verde has a much more well-healed (& stuffier?) crowd, and that Ocean Park is the nicest & quietest area, but too rough for swimming. Up to now, our beach experience has been the Caribe Hilton's private beach, and Playa Flamenco, two tough acts to follow. Could anyone help us by describing the feel of these 3 beaches and their respective surrounding ambience? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Old San Juan or Condado

I would like to rent an apt for a week in San Juan. Which neighborhood do you think I should look into?

Are the two close to each other? Walking distance, taxi, bus? Are there other areas I should be looking into?

I am looking for a vacation of both sightseeing historical and also relaxing on the beach. Hopefully, you guys can advise me on how I can achieve both!

Also, any tourist destinations that I should absolutely see? I hear nature is beautiful in PR, anything specific?

I look forward to your answers.

Rental Cars in San Juan  (3 Answers)

Hello,

My fiancee and I are getting married this March, and we decided to spend our honeymoon in Puerto Rico. Unfortunately I have noticed that most rental places require you to be 21 to rent a car. He'll be 22, but doesn't have a driver's license. I'll be 20 still (almost 21). We'd rather not stay in San Juan the whole time, or even most of it. He also has family in the mountains that we'd like to visit. Do you know if it is possible to rent a car in Puerto Rico if you are under 21? Perhaps a local car place that wouldn't be listed online? Thanks!

Airport - nearby beaches?  (2 Answers)

My wife and I have two long layovers in San Juan in January. Are there any beaches near to the airport with changing facilities, food, etc?

Any other suggestions for what to do with a six hour layover? We have already seen the fort but also wanted to know if La Zargonzanna (sp?) is still open.

Short Layover and Change of Terminals  (2 Answers)

Starting to plan a trip and was offered a flight that involves a 45 minute layover requiring a change of terminals (land at B and fly out of D). Does that require going through security again or are the terminals connected such that going through security would not be required?

I've never flown through this airport before.

Thanks for your insight.

Long Layover  (1 Answer)

Hey All!
I will be traveling from Barbados back to Chicago with my boyfriend on Monday May 8th and seem to have a 7 1/2 hour layover in San Juan. I can't imagine sitting in an airport for that long, so I was wondering if anyone has any tips on things that we may be able to see/do while there? Also if anyone has any restaurant suggestions for somewhere near the airport we will be there around lunchtime. I've never left an airport during a layover, but have been told it can be done so any suggestions or tips would certainly be welcome. I'd rather see San Juan (or even just get a good meal) then sit in an aiport for 7 hours!

Thanks in advance,
Michelle

Bring the rental car to Culebra, or rent on Culebra?  (2 Answers)

Is it better to bring a rental car to Culebra (ferry) or rent on Culebra? It would probably be overnite stay on Culebra. LG Puerto Rico suggests it is not a good idea to bring one's vehicle rental to Culebra...so i was wandering...what's anyone thoughts are on this ...

SCUBA and snorkeling

Hola! My friend and I will be staying in San Juan (Condado) Sept. 4-12. We will have a car and I would like to go scuba diving and she would like to snorkel. What are our options? I was thinking of going to Culebra for this - what do you think? Based on the transportation to Culebra - seems like we would have to stay there at least one night - recommendations? Mucha Gracias! If your in town, let's meet and go dancing! Wendy

Where to stay in San Juan/ in all of Puerto Rico?  (2 Answers)

Hello, I had planned my vacations to go somewhere else, but I have postponed that trip because of my friends' schedule to September or whereabouts, so I am planifying what to do with the fifiteen days I have now. I am thinking of going to Puerto Rico, which is an idea I caress long time ago. I love salsa, being this one of the reasons for selecting PR. I would like to know if there is some festival or town that I shouldn't miss because it's known because of superb salsa. Else, I'll go to San Juan, which is obviously a wonderful place for salsa lovers. However, because it's not a frequent touristic destination like Cuba or Rep├║blica Dominicana (for us europeans), I can't find competitive packages plane+hotel. Can anybody recommend where to get good packages? All I can find is a couple of cruises that stay in San Juan for a night . And I don't like cruises much. If not, I could make a much more expensive travel adding plane + hotel by myself, but, because this is much more expensive, I'd be glad to know on budget hotels. I don't need luxury, just quality. I can travel either in April or March Thaks for your comments.
