Bus from Tallinn to St. Petersburg

We will be touring in several European countries and on one part we are traveling from Tallinn to St. Petersburg. We have chosen to take the bus using website: www.bussireisid.ee/ but we have not had any luck getting reservations or even signing up as a customer on that sight.

Does anyone have suggestions as to other bus lines or modes of transportation from Tallinn to St.Petersburg? We have our visa's and also reservations at a hotel in St. Pete's - we just need to get there.

Any help appreciated.

You can take the train: it's direct.

bahn.de/p/view/international...

will give you the timetable, but it seems there is only an overnight train option (leaving Tallinn at 23.30).

For buses, you need to look at www.eurolines.com (the service is not on the bussireisid site, as you know). There are several buses a day taking 5 - 9 hours (there is a 'luxury' bus once a day).

This page has a PDF link to the bus timetable:

http://www.eurolines.ee/?id=1356

And this page has details about the 'luxury' bus:

In 2006 we took a bus Eurolines St.Pete to Tallinn and back
eurolines.ru/list/estoni/tal... - in Russian, the 2d table is for Tallin-St.Pete.
From Talinn at 6 a.m., 7.00, 11.00, 14.30, 16.20, 23.00, 23.40
Arival to St.Pete 13.00, 15.35, 20.10, 22.15, 23.45, 7.00, 7.30

Prices in roubles here eurolines.ru/list/estoni/pri... - the 2d table
1 euro=37 roubles
Contact email address is [email] - try to write them

I think you can buy tickets at the central bus station in Tallinn.
There is no information about online booking.

The sell tickets here in advance but only at the ticket offices. Phone numbers in St.Pete are here eurolines.ru/agents/russia/s...
Contacts in Tallinn are here eurolines.ru/agents/estoniya... - try to call them, I hope they speak English.

You can find prices for railway ticket here http://www.gorail.ee/?id=1481
(surprised that they do not have English version, but I guess you can figure it out). It is Estonian Kroons, so divide by 16 to get price in Euro or use www.xe.com
The problem with trains between Tallinn and St.Pete is that there are only compartments for 4 persons, not for 2, so you would need to buy the 4 tickets if you want more privacy. The other problem is that checks at the border will probably keep you awake for a significant part of the night and you next day may be ruined by the lack of sleep.

Just a small report: I took a train from Tallinn to St.Petersburg and returned by bus. Both ways have pluses and minuses. On a train, if you can secure 2 lower benches, chances are pretty high that there will be nobody else in your compartment. However, the train is likely to be cancelled as of mid-september. On the way back took an "express bus" that should cover the distance between two cities in a little more than 6 hours. Frankly, I cannot imagine how it is possible and indeed we were more than 1.5 hour late on our arrival in Tallinn. The bus was completely full and we spent about 2 hours at the border. In your keep in mind traffic in St.Pete and terrible road from St.Pete to the border, I simply do not understand how is it possible to get to Tallinn in 6 hours.
