I will be in Riga next week for two nights and the tour operator will get us to Lido center to have dinner at a traditional atmosphere. But places that the tour operators mostly get you to,are touristic places that do not have much sense to me.I would like to have dinner at a real traditional place that the locals prefer and also want to spend less money what the meal really worths.
Could you please send your advices about reastaurant names and if possible about prices.
Thanks a lot in advance.

We will be in Riga for one day onlu, as a stop on a cruise in late August. We had planned on taking a tour offered by the cruise line. How difficult is it to see Riga on one's own? Is it small enough that one can walk from place to place, or are we better off taking an organized bus tour which includes about 2 hours of walking around the center and the other two hours getting an overview from a bus?
We welcome suggestions from those who are familiar with the city.
I need an advice. my departure from Riga airport at 11.30, but bus arrived (internetional, from belarus) only at 8.10. How long could take transfer to airport? + potential delay due to mornind truffic over bridge( as i remember it located in the eastern side of Daugava river).

What is the best option to go from Riga to Vilnius and back: train or bus?
- I read on a few other sites that by bus is a better option than by train, would be great to get a few extra opinions.
- Where can I find bus schedules?
- I heard that if you go by train to Vilnius, you have to have a visa because the train goes to Russia - so even if you plan to get out in Vilnius you still need that visa. Is that correct?
We will be arriving to Riga by ferry-boat and then will drive to Klaipeda. Does anyone have any information where in Internet I can find a way-/roaddescription how to drive between theese two cities? Last year I accidentely found descritptions someowhere on Yahoo! but can´t find it now:-(
I have booked a stag weekend for May this year.
There are 15 of us altogether and will be staying for two nights.
Since booking the stag we have read negative reviews regarding Riga and the way in which stag parties are targeted by dodgy strip clubs and bouncers. We have also read stories of stag parties being conned and even robbed!!
We're a sensible bunch and pretty much keep to ourselves, it just that 99% of us are of oriental descent and will stick out like sore thumbs!
What sort of reception is our party likely to receive out in Riga? Are the stories truly as bad as they say? Or are they just extreme cases? Bearing in mind we are from London and similar things happen here too. We just never come across them.
Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

I'm interested in clothes from 50-60-70-80. I'm trying to find out where in Riga is the best places to go? I've heard about the central market but is there like other fleamarkets or shops where it would be possible to find secondhand clothes and shoes from 50,60, 70 and the 80's?
Hope you can help me:)

Hi, can anybody tell me the Bus number and location for travelling from Riga centre to the airport?
Hope all are okay?
I am visiting Riga on business in March and was wandering if anyone can give me some advice on some good hotels situated in the old town.
Also i would like to know of any nice bars and restaurants to go to.
I've just, yesterday, visited the most amazing restaurant I have ever seen - The Recreation Centre Lido in Riga - we ate & drank downstairs (magnificently but cheaply - by English standards) and droolingly spent 2 hours looking at the preparations and presentations on the other floors.
Where can I possibly obtain, in English please, the recipes of the dishes which I saw, and some that my wife & I ate. Unfortunately we were only in Riga for one day and returned to England last night.
I have thought of e-mailing Martin Blunos - an expat Latvian celebrity chef in England - for some of the recipes, but if you have or are considering a publication I will certainly be at the front of the queue.
We will go back most certainly.
Thanks in anticipation.
Anne & Brian Muir.
We are students, we need cheap accomodation for long term in Riga.
Any suggestions are welcomed on E-mail: [email]
Our group of 5 will be visiting Riga for 3 days in September. None of us has ever been to Riga and we do not know the town. We will be travelling in our own cars and Riga is one of the stop on our planned trip. I think we'll try to find a flat to rent within walking distance to the old town, as we prefer walking than driving or having to use public transport. Any idea on what could be the good location for that purpose ? I unerstand that some locations are more expensive than the others but that's fine with us. Initially I thought that the old town would be a good idea, but then I've learnt that cars are not allowed there and I'd prefer to have our cars parked near the flat. Maybe some other area withing walking distance to the old town would be a better choice ? Also, in the guidebook I've read that foreign cars get often stolen in Riga. Is this still a problem ? (the guide is bit aged)
Can you give me a suggestion where in Riga is the most romantic place where I can ask my girlfriend to marry me?
And what is the Latvian translation of "Will you marry me?"
Romantic boy in love
I am arriving to Riga on Wednesday morning and staying there one day only. If the weather is good I am planning to make a trip to Vecaki beach. I have heard that area is really nice and it is possible to take a train there. Just wondering what kind of train and from where? Any timetable available on the net?
There are plenty of other information I am looking for: I heard there is a ferry connection to Germany from Riga. Anybody out there who knows the name of the company and web link to the company's home page??(for my next visit) Also I would like to know the best attractions of the downtown in a case of bad weather. Any special Latvian things to buy as souvenirs? Perhaps Latvian Vodka??
How to find the latvian weather forecastings?? Info on public transportation on the net & spas and public swimming halls & pools!!
Sorry for many questions but I found very little info on the web. Where are the official websites of Latvian tourist office?
Many thanks and remember to enjoy the nice beaches of Riga and Latvia.
Hi all....I plan on visiting Riga on September 23rd-Oct 1st....my flight I'm planning to purchase arrives at 11:00am at RIX....My brother is supposed to arrive there to meet me(he's coming from London for business) at 11:30pm....obviously I'm not waiting that long and want to get back to the apartment we are renting for the week. We haven't decided on a place to rent because we don't know the deal with transportation. We don't want to rent a vehicle and plane on taking the train through the Riga....I went to a web site that claimed you can purchase a unlimited train usage pass for 20 Lats there, that is good for a month. That's our plan of travel while we are there, but my question is....is their train access directly from the airport? Or will I need to take the cab somewhere. My brother also heard they may over charge us on taxi, and I was wondering if any of you have experienced that yourselves.
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!
