I'll write my questions below, to be more organized, I know I do ask a lot :)
1. Can you please help me decide which one to visit? I'm not sure if I have the time for both of them.
2. But if I do have the time, which one to visit first?
3. Is there a logical and more efficient way to visit both gardens? I read that for Monte I should go up with the cable car and then if I choose a toboggan ride on my way down how do I get to the Botanical Garden again from the end of the toboggan ride?
4. If I visit them both, do I still have time for other activities in the city, like visiting the marina, wandering in the old town etc?
I'm spending my summer holiday in Madeira, between 25th of August-01st of September. I read about the tours and levadas and I would like you to give some advice: is it ok/ worth it to make all the full day tours (East, West, North, West)? And what half day levadas would you recommend? Not interested in being an easy path but a beautiful one.
Could you give me the contact details to visit the salvagems grande by private yacht, leaving from Lanzaroti.
we are (3 people, not more young) going to visit Madeira from 31.01-14.02, renting a car from aeroport. The idea is (maybe wrong??) to spend first 4 days in Porto Moniz, then move to Calheta and the second week - in Canico. The question: should we rent a car for the whole 2 weeks? I know, it is a lot to see in Funchal and suburbs, - maybe it would be better to do without a car, using the buses, without parking problems?
I am also not sure, that we need three places to stay... maybe it'd be enough to stay one week in Calheta and one in Canico... but the photos from Porto Moniz are so fascinating, - I fell in love with this village from the first moment.
We'll be very grateful for every advice!
Our cruise ship will make an 8am - 5pm stop at Funchal on Saturday, April 21. We would like to make the best of our time here. The cruise excursions are not always good. Can anyone suggest the best way for us to spend our day? Should we be sure to plan on the cable car? Is there a beach area? Is the hop-on-hop-off bus worthwhile? What would we expect the temperatures to be?
Thinking of relocating to Madeira. We have one child who is vaccine-free. Does anyone know if Portugal/Madeira offers a choice to vaccinate or not? I have read that you are free to choose in Portugal. Is this right?

I wish to hire a car while I am in Madeira. Is there parking available at this hotel and at what cost.
Hello, does anybody here know if the levada Caldeirao Verde and the levada do Furado are still closed? I wonder also if the track from Boca Corrida to Encumeada is all closed or it is possible to do it at least partially. I mean if it is possible to go at least from Boca Corrida to Pico Grande and back. I checked the official website of the Madeiran Tourist Office and the last update concerning the levadas is more than 1 month old. I will appreciaty any new information of any walks in Madeira, the official website has information only about some levadas and dating from 10/03/2010. Thanks to everybody, P
I'll be in Madeira next May, basically for walk around levadas. Any experience or suggestion that you can give me will be welcome. Thanks!
My GF and me are planning to visit Madeira in April, we have few questions for us to plan this trip:
1. The climate indicated in different web sites differ widely, some indicate that the temperature in average is 22 and in some other it is 17, so if anyone knows about the temperature in Madeira during the second half of April please advice.
2. Is the temperature difference very big from the North of the island and the south?
3. Did anyone stay in rural accommodations in Madeira? Does anyone know any reviews about the following places:
- Casa Tia Clementina in Santana.
- Casa das vidieras in Seixal.
- Casa do Papagaio Verde in Sao Martinho.
4. How is the public transport facilities, from and to Sao Martinho/ Funchal/ Faial/ Santana. Is it recommended to rent a car? I heard it is very dangerous to drive there.
5. What would be the most recommended hikes: Rabacal? Nuns valley? Pico Ruivo? Pico do Arieiro?
6. Is it worth going to Porto Santo or are there any beaches in Madeira, we read that there are only puble/stone beaches.
7. Any further recommendations on the top spots to visit and things to do.

Discovery Walking Guides rport that they have withdrawn some of their recommended walks in east and west Funchal due to Muggings.
Does anyone have any more information on this?
"For 35 Madeira Walks we are dropping some of the routes from our current Madeira (Funchal & Machico) Walking Guide. Urban crime problems with muggings of tourists means that we are dropping any routes going through problem urban areas, so out go Walks 1, 2, 3, 4, and 4A in western Funchal plus 10 in eastern Funchal. "

My son, his friend and their girlfriends have booked a holiday in Madeira for a week in February. They are all 18 years old. I'm not sure what research they did, but I think they were influenced by the chance of free accommodation at a friend's holiday home. I never thought of Madeira as somewhere that would have much of a nightlife for his age group. Is it legal to drink in Madeira at 18? Where are the best places for nightlife?
Will you visit Madeira the next month? If you need any help please contact me! I will be in Porto Santo for 10 days also!
