This is my first visit, so please excuse any ignorance I may exhibit.
Some friends have offered us a time share for a week in CR. Although it looks like the northwest is more tourism oriented, the only place we can find that is available anytime soon is "Hotel del Sur" in San Isidoro del General.
Would this location work as a base for a week's visit? We can rent a car; a 4x4 if necessary.
Any advice would be appreciated; I need to make a decision pretty quickly
Traveling to Costa Rica in July. My son would really like to buy some sports memorabilia - soccer jersey, etc. Any tips on where to shop? We will be in San Jose for a few nights. Thank you!

I'm a person who loves to travel. I would like to visit Costa Rica and I'll be staying at Double Tree Cariari Hotel. I want to know the tourist attractions where I can visit, the nearby restaurants, convenience store and malls that is within walking distance only or through cab. Please let me know as soon as possible. Hope to hear from you soon.
A few years ago San Jose appeared to be a city with little crime; however today from what I am reading it has a high crime rate. Is Barrio Amon not a safe area to walk around at night anymore? How about Barrio Otoya? I am a guy traveling alone and enjoy staying in the heart of things so I can walk, have coffee or a beer in a cafe, people watch, etc. Doesn't take alot to please me! Was thinking 5 days there before going to the beach area. Thanks for any input.
We will arrive on a friday afternoon in July in San José Airport and stay two nights in Alajuela before flying to Palmar Sur with Nature Air. I have been in San José/Alajuela several times, have seen Poás, Waterfall Gardens, City of San José, and now I don’t know what I shall do that remaining day. Is it worth going to Irazú when we saw Poás? I’m not interested in Sarchi’s ox carts, and I am travelling with a teenage boy.
Can I get by public transportation from Alajuela to the airport of Pavas? Or how much would a taxi been from Alajuela?
Thanks for your help
I'm studying abroad in Costa Rica starting this Saturday. I'll be in San José for the first 4 weeks or so. I was wondering if anyone knew whether there are pay as you go cell phones readily available for international calls? Is the service reliable? Expensive?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Having real issues at the moment.
Car rental ranges in price.
Found an excellent quote from Ebookers but they require an INternational Drivers Liscense.
Dollar are pretty cheap, but they don't include the excess insurance.
Basically, if the car got stolen, ebookers would refund monies lost. Dollar would bill us1500.
How do I get the international Liscence?
I am planning a trip to Costa Rica next year and am wondering if anyone has stayed at the TreeHouse in Punta Uva? Sounds like an interesting destination and I really like the unusual. They advertise a Treehouse and a Beach house on the property and say the beach is one of the best in CR?
Any expertise appreciated.

I'm voluntering in the community and am from Maryland, I'm looking forward to meet some new locals or people familar w/ the area. Feel free to respond. Peace.
I am going to Costa Rica for the first time in August and will be spending three weeks. I am going to be staying with a host family and taking language classes. I am staying in San Joaquin, which I believe is a suburb of San Jose.
Can any one tell me about San Joaquin, things to do, etc.?
During the week I will be in class, but will want to get out for short afternoon trips and longer weekend trips. I've read so much about the great parks, preserves, etc. in Costa Rica...
Im traveling to CR and have heard that their luggage x rays are particularly strong. What films speeds would be safe to pass through?
We will be in San Jose for a week in June. Our flight leaves at 7:00 a.m. to go home. We will have to be at the airport by 5:30 at least to check in. Are there restaurants or food stands at the airport where we could get a cup of coffee or even a little breakfast? Are they open early? Thank you
I am going to SanJose 5/5-5/12. I want know if I should stay there at a hotel the whole trip and do day excursions. I want a place that is in walking distance of resturants, night life, museums, ect. My plans are to Mountain bike, snorkel, sandy beach tropical laid back atmosphere ,sea kayak, jungle canopy(nature preserve), hotsprings, climb a volcano if possible. I usually do not like to go on tours. But I would if there is not a lot of people and it's not just being on a bus for most of the day I will consider it. Is renting a motorbike, a car, or other transprtation more desireable (bus) taxi.
I am looking for a large house in a safe barrio near the University of Costa Rica. It it has a pool even better. Please email me at [email] Yo hablo espanol sin problema! Gabe
I am trying to decide between numerous car rentals. Has anyone heard of Suzuki car rental? Are they reliable? Any car rental recommendations and an average price I should pay?
