Is it impossible to find a 4 star hotel in southern puntarenas over Christmas?  (2 Answers)

We are frustrated that vacationscostarica costaricaexpeditions and a number of other agencies can't book a 10 day vacation for us in southern puntarenas and Manuel Antonio, unless I can dish out for the 5+ star resorts (which I can't as both my son's are now considered adults). Anyone have any 'safe' suggestions for us to look into? We want to stay away from car rentals due to the short visit. Any advice & guidance from anyone is appreciated. Thanks. Marc

Macaw Sanctuary in Aranjuez?  (3 Answers)

Hi everyone,

I heard that there is a macaw sanctuary in Aranjuez that can be visited (some cruise ships apparently offer trips to the sanctuary). However, I can't find any contact details or website. Can anyone help me? Does anyone here have any information about this sanctuary? I haven't found out where the town of Aranjuez is and how to get there either...

I know there's a macaw sanctuary (Flor de Mayo) of "Amigos de las Aves" in (or near) Alajuela. But that's not the one, I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Best regards,

Kiki

Whales and Dolphins Eco-Lodge.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has stayed at the Whales and Dolphins Eco-Lodge. We are thinking about booking a week there in late January and are looking for some feedback on the Lodge and the surrounding area. From looking at their website it fits what we were looking for. How are the rooms, food and service? Any pros or cons and tips would be welcome. Also drive time from San Jose and road conditions? Thanks in advance...

Manuel Antonio - Centraly Located.  (2 Answers)

We are planning a seven day stay in the Manuel Antonio Area in February 2006. Can anyone tell me if Monteverde Rain forest is driveable to and from in one day from MA. I know the road to Monteverde is white knuckle. Any opinions or recommendations on Hotels in MA area, we are looking for some seclusion, a swimming pool and to get up close to the flora and fauna for photos and observation. What are the beaches like as far as snorkeling and swimming. Waterfalls, Bugs, crime, road conditions (coastal and mountains). What to do, what to do?
Already did Arenal, Tabagon, Tamarindo, Flamingo, (short rainforest hike; not enough yet), Samara.

Manuel Antonio & Jaco accomodations & car rental advice

My friend and I will be taking a 4 day trip to Costa Rica in just two weeks (May 6-9). We are flying into San Jose, and as per the advice of many friends, and plan to rent a car and drive to Manuel Antonio. We plan to take the Old Highway route and want to know if anyone can tell us if 4WD is necessary?

We are looking into two hotels in MA, Costa Verde and Verde Mar Hotel. Has anyone stayed at Costa Verde? We are leaning towards that one, but would like to hear from people who have stayed at either place.

We are also planning on spending one day/night in Jaco and are looking into staying at Fuego del Sol. Any advice on this hotel or others in Jaco?

Does anyone know of any good night spots in MA or Jaco?

Thanks in advance!

Patty

Este Esterillos - Place to Stay  (1 Answer)

I was in Este Esterillos in December 2002 and stayed at the Auberge du Pelican. I loved the service provided by the French-Canadian owners and the secluded beach. I understand it has changed ownership, has anyone stayed there under the new ownership and if so can you tell me if it is worth going back to? Recommendations on other nearby hotels are also appreciated. I am returning to Costa Rica in Dec 2004.

Looking for a hotel...  (2 Answers)

Hola; I am looking for a hotel my wife and I were at about 10 yrs ago. I do not remember the name. It had a Roman style amphitheatre that people would come to every night to watch the sun go down. It also had a beautiful open air French restaraunt, and an infinity pool. It overlooked the Pacific, and we were told some scenery shots had been made for the movie"1492" on the ocean just below the hotel/restaraunt. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Dan
