New Brunswick family reunion festival in August?  (3 Answers)

We have heard that NB has some big thing about families that happens every August -- or maybe only this August (2014). We can't find anything in the standard tourist literature about it and wonder when it happens and where.

We're moving to NB... seeking your opinions!  (3 Answers)

Hi! We're planning a move from BC to NB in a couple of months. The question is - WHERE? I've been browsing around here picking up lots of useful information, but I'm very interesting in getting some feedback "from the ground" so to speak.

We're not limited by location, (don't need to be in a particular city!) we can go pretty much anywhere.

BUT we are limited by some other factors, and this is where I'd really appreciate the experience of those who actually live in NB.

1) budget! we've only got about 250-350K to spend on a property. We'd like a newer (or recently renovated) log home on a small acreage with lots of trees (enough land for privacy - maybe 10 acres, maybe a bit more or a bit less)... waterfront on a lake or river is extremely desirable too. Are we asking the impossible?

2) weather! we want SNOWY (not rainy) winters and a WHITE CHRISTMAS (does this rule out certain coastal regions?) - and we'd like WARMER summers...

3) weather! we also want as much SUNSHINE as possible - and not too windy, and not too many mosquitoes, etc!

4) location! we want clean air ... to be reasonably far away from any big cities, pulp mills, and power plants - but also reasonably close to one or more small communities that we can be a part of.

Any suggestions of great places that might fit the bill?

A couple of random weather questions:

Is the STORMY WEATHER really such an issue on the coasts? (specifically the east coast)

Is the famous maritime FOG really such an issue on the coasts? ( I read somewhere that you can generally escape it by going 10 km inland...)

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Visiting NB for first time  (7 Answers)

Hey everyone!

Im just looking for some knowledge on what are some good things to see in NB. This is my first road trip (week long) and well first time being out east. I am 25 and my girlfriend is 24. We're starting from Toronto and heading to Quebec for the first day or so. I want to see the tides 100% and magnetic hill. We will be travelling also to PEI, and NS. But I will post stuff on that forum later on. We both wanna go whale watching. Not sure if NB is the place to do it as i read its the best place or wait till NS or Cape Breton.

Thank you for your advice!

Stuff to do with kids near St. Martins and St. John, NB  (11 Answers)

I've found a cottage to rent for a week in August on the Bay of Fundy. It's in a really beautiful spot overlooking the ocean. I'm going to have my 11-year-old daughter and 10-year-old niece with me, and am looking for some fun things to do. Even things in St. John would be good, since we'll have our car and it's only about a 30 min. drive.

stop over in maritimes so expensive  (2 Answers)

Can anyone advise me on the cheapest way to stop over and visit the maritimes for a week or two on the way back from visiting relatives in Vancouver late August September? Looking at multitrips with Air Canada is coming out at £1656.00!!!!!!
If I fly London to Vancouver and break the return journey in Toronto it is only £665.00! Can you help with the best internal flights or other travel that will be cheaper and also would it be best to get to Halifax or St John's or any where else? Any travel advice much appreciated. We love to visit Canada and have been to BC several times but have never ventured into Eastern Canada

Need Carpooling from Bathurst area..Female for female. Share expenses?

My girlfriend accepted my proposal..yay! She lives in Bathurst. We were wondering if any female travelers would consider talking to her and sharing a ride to the states. We thought this would be both economical and an adventure.

I could meet you anywhere in the south to midwest or inbetween the Bathurst/New Brunswick area to the western part of the USA.

This post is legit and I would appreciate anyone woman interested with carpooling and saving money to please email me. [email]

thx and have a blessed day...

June family vacation  (1 Answer)

We are traveling to New Brunswick and Maine for a week at the end of June. We are flying into Bangor, Maine on a Saturday. We then want to see as much of eastern New Brunswick as we can. We are then going on to Acadia and Bar Harbor for a few days and leaving from there. I have booked a hotel in Saint John. I have also been looking at Moncton. My questions are:
1. In what order would you travel?
2. How many days would you spend in each location?
3. Would you do more day trips from Moncton or Saint John?
4. Are there other places reasonably close (less than 100 miles) that we should also try to see?
5. Where is the best place to stay to see Fundy National Park and Hopewell rocks?
Thank you so much in advance for your help

Can anyone recommend a town near Moncton?  (3 Answers)

I'm getting married in October, and my fiancee and I want to drive up to New Brunswick. He really dislikes cities, so we don't want to stay in Moncton or Fredericton, but we're trying to find a town near one of those cities that will interest us on its own, but is not too far (maybe 2-45 minutes) from a city. Can anybody help me???

Last minute accomodation in the Maritimes, etc. - advise please  (3 Answers)

Hi,
My husband and I will be driving around the Maritime for 9 days in mid August. Then we'll fly to NFL and drive there for a week. It's going to be our first time in Eastern Canada. It'll be busy two weeks, but we'd like to get the most out of it. My concern is having to stick to a stricked schedule because of pre-booked accomodation. As I mentioned we will be renting a car. We are considering spending a couple of nights sleeping in the car if a worse case scenarion, but other than that we would like to rely on last-minute rooms. Our budget is limited, so hostels or small B&B are a way to go, but we would like to stay at a nicer place to get better rest every 2-3 days.

We start our trip in Halifax; spend the night there or close around (maybe Peggy's cove?) then we drive down the south west shore, through the Litehosue route; then off to Dingby and take the ferry to St. John, NB. We'd like to visit see the Foundy Bay and the tides and drive north toward the Confederation Bridge to PEI. While, in PEI we'll focus mainly on the central part of the island (from Summerside, PEI National Park & beaches,Charlottetown). Then we'll take the ferry to Caribou, NS. From there we want to drive to Cape Breton Island, do the Cabot Trail, visit Beddeck, Sydney, Louisburg, and drive back to Halifax.
From Halifax we fly to St. John's, NFL and rent a car again. We want to drive up to Twilligate (maybe stay overnight there for sure), and then move towards Gros Morne Park. We'll have to drive back the same way to get to St. John's, and while there maybe drive south to the Wittless Bay.

Any advise would be appreciated in terms of the itinerary and your experience with accomodation.
Thank you very much!

Woodstock, New Brunswick

I am looking for some general information about Woodstock, New Brunswick -- if anyone here is from there or has happened to see it.

What is the population?
What is the climate like?
How far away is it from Frederickton and Moncton?
As far as towns go, what is it like living there? What are some interesting things to do?
Are there any places nearby to hike or ski?
How far apart is everything? Do you have to drive to get everywhere or are all the main highlights in the same core area?

Thanks

Thinking of going whale watching in mid September in the Bay of Fundy. So question is, which side is better, NS or NB? I'm thinking in terms of probability of sightings, quantity of reputable/responsible operators, and price. Anyone with any thoughts?

Roadtrip!  (7 Answers)

I'm planning on going to Maine in July. We'll be taking about 9-10 days to go from NJ, stopping in Boston for a night and then up to Acadia. We also wanted to visit the Hopewell Rocks and Fundy Park in New Brunswick, Canada. Has anyone ever done this trip? It is 8 hours away from Acadia making it about 19 hours away from my home. Do you think this is doable or will I be overextending myself? Thanks for your help!
