We are planning a 4 week family holiday in Crete, and have found some appartements in Almirida. Does anyone know this town, and do you have any tips, advices about staying there? Would you recommend the place?
We stayed in Almyrida a few years ago, in October. We loved the place, lovely sandy, safe beaches,a handful of excellent tavernas and not much else. It is a very small one time fishing village, now existing on tourisim.
The larger town of Kalives is only a couple of miles away where you'll find everything you are likely to need for your holiday.
This whole peninsula is quiet with some lovely, old fashioned inland villages but you are also close to the National Highway if you want to travel further afield.
Have a look at my pages on the area:

The beach in almirida is not that good but you will find lots of restaurants, bars etc. It is a good area to stay as during summer it attracts lots of tourists but make sure you visit other places too.
