We are going to be in Piraeus Greece on a cruise ship later this month - arriving at 11am and departing at 8pm. We would like to hire our own taxi or find our own day trip for sightseeing vs purchasing one of the cruise ships excursions. Any recommendations ? Suggestions? Thank you,
Generally you can do much more for much less money if you do it on your own, particularly if there are 4 people in your group. We had a very nice tour of many of the sights for 90 euros from a taxi driver we found at the pier. I wouldn't take the first person who approaches you (there will probably be more like 10-15 drivers vying for your business. Of course the kind of driver you will get can be a bit of a crapshoot. You can find a lot more discussion cruise-related issues at cruisecritic.com
Thank you that is helpful.
Walk to the metro/train station at Piraeus, buy two tickets per person and take the train to Monastiraki. From here a lot of sights are in walking distance. You can have a coffee and lunch in Plaka, and return to Piraeus by train! Maria
