Please tell me how to get to Colle del Nivolet / Lago Serru (e.g. from Torino)
in June using public transport. Any bus , timetable ?
we'll be staying in an agriturismo in Asti in July - can you recommend so good wine tasting/tours in the area close to Asti (we'll be renting a car so we can drive around).
Any other particular places of interest that we should visit?
Hello fellow travellers,
I am trying to determine which is the closest airport if one wants to visit the Temples of Damanhur. I am thinking it would be Turin Italy but would welcome any suggestions.
Could anyone recommend a scenic route from the Veneto to the lake Orta? It doesn't have to be short. But we want it to be beautiful.
Thanks in advance.
My wife and I are planning to cross the Alps by the Simplon pass on our way from Italy to Switzerland.
The problem is that my wife suffers from height sickness.
Could anybody tell us whether the landscape around the pass could provoke dizziness, or sense of imbalance, or fear? Are there abysses close to the road?
Thanks in advance for your help.
I am responsible for finding 11 rooms for 2 nights (13 May) at or near Lake Orta. I cannot find a hotel that will accept my group of friends who are retired Australians. Can anyone suggest a pleasant hotel etc? I wanted to stay at Hotel Orta but find the reviews of that hotel pretty bad, has it improved? Even this hotel does not reply. I have been trying for 3 weeks and find the hotels etc. just do not reply to my enquires. What am I doing wrong?
We would like to spend a couple days in Piemonte to eat at a couple slow food restaurants and do some wine tasting. We hear Barola is very busy. We want somewhere not so busy but has good value on wines. Could someone suggest some places?
We are leaving Lake Orta on September 19 & need to return to Arona on September 26 to catch our flight from Malpensa the next day. We will not have a car. We wanted to stay at a fairly small attractive town in Piedmont which we can access by public transport. We had something smaller than Asti/Alba/Bra/Saluzzo in mind. We want to be able to walk (perhaps to other small towns)in lovely scenery. I am 64 & my husband 69. We are quite fit & active. We were thinking of a town which is fairly tranquil, not too much traffic, with a b&b or agriturismo offering a good breakfast & maybe night meals or one or two simple eating places in the town with good homestyle cooking. We also envision ourselves in the square sipping a cappuccino watching the world go by. We'd be happy to spend a night along the way & on the way back, to allow for transport connections. We will initially, have a suitcase each so wouldn't be able to walk too far carrying them to access anywhere.
Any suggestions you have would be welcome regarding towns, accommodation, & transport logistics.
We are driving from Domodossola to Paris to fly home, can anyone tell me how long the drive is? Thanks
For me there are two options during my short stay in Piemonte. Stay the night in Vercelli or look for a last train/ bus to a city near Vercelli.
Can anyone recommend me a cheap nice place to stay in Vercelli or surroundings where I can get after midnight with public transport?
Does anyone know the buscompany which must ride to and from Vercelli ( the website i mean)
Anyone know how hard it is to climb Monviso? What equipment is necessary? How long time etc.
I'm planning to go next weekend.
Very grateful for any help.
We are planning to visit both Cinque Terre and Alba, and are not sure of the best way to travel - car or train?
I was planning to fly into Pisa and travel by train to Cinque Terre (via La Spezia) but then am not sure whether to travel by train to Genoa and onto Alba, or hire a car and drive to Alba.
It is a question of time, hassle and whether or not its better to have a car for exploring Alba and Langhe?
Any suggestions / reccomendations please?
Hello out there
(1) I need to return a hire car back to Milan (Malpensa Airport), probably from Asti. Can someone please tell me how long the drive will take - preferably a scenic route and would anyone recommend anything specific to see/do en route.
Then I may return to Asti by train or go directly to Genoa to visit Cinque Terre.
(2) Can anyone also advise how long the train takes from La Spezia to Milan (Malpensa Airport... again).
Thanks if you can advise.
Hello out there,
Can anyone please advise me of a train to Cinque Terre from either Turin or Asti? How long is the journey? How much is the fare?
And then any information on getting the train from Cinque Terre to Milan?
Thanks to anyone who can help me
Hi there! I'm spending some time with my girfriend in lake maggiore before we head off on our travels through france toward the town of Hossegor. We intend to travel by car, but to rent a car in italy and then drop it off in another country will result in a very hefty fee (approx 800 euro) on top of the car rental price. Accordingly, after a few days by the lake, we are hoping to travel by train into a nice part of france, and then pick up a rental car there. If anyone could suggest a really cool little train trip into France departing from a location close to Lake Maggiore, I would be most grateful!!!
Does anyone know what the travel time by car would be from this area to Florence?

I just found this virtual tourist website and it looks like a great idea. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm planning to go to Europe for a snowboarding trip (first time in Europe), and I was thinking about starting off in Sauze d'Oulx. I'm trying to find out as much information as I can online but am having difficulty. My main concerns are
Best way to get to there from the airport (Turin)
Some cheap accomodations (hostels and such)
Any information you can give me would be much appreciated. My email is [email]. Thank you for your help.
In the last month, news have been reporting a few occurrences and yesterday I saw it again in the news.
I'm talking about consistent theft of railroad copper cables - alongside railroad tracks - in Piedmont, my northern Italy region. It seems that some low-life individuals take this materials away for re-sale on the black market.
So far, this resulted in severing off some train lines for as much as 18 hours and obviously throwing passengers and traffic into chaos prior to the system restore by technicians. Yesterday the Torino-Genova line was out from 5 AM through 10 PM and TV news showed tons of confiscated stripped cables. The good news is that there have been no accidents and casualties so far, just stopped convoys.
I am totally dismayed and speechless. I know that cursing doesn't help to solve the problem and I'm wondering what can be done to avoid this problem.
Food-for-thought questions are:
1. How can thousands of miles of track lines be patrolled?
2. Have you ever heard of a similar problem in other countries?
I'm in Turin and I missed a lot of week-ends without going to the mountains just because I (amazingly) didn't find enough info on the Internet. So here is my question:
I would like to do a day-hike somewhere not to far from Torino, preferably starting and ending in the same place so that I can go by car (but that's not a must). I know the upper part of Val si Susa or Val d'Aosta offers a lot of nice paths, but I'm thinking of something closer to Torino (for example some hike on the mountains / hills around Sacra di San Michele - I've seen some interesting hills on the opposite part of the abbey) would be the perfect distance.
I'm used to hiking and I hike up to 10 hours per day in day-hike, have good equipment with me in Turin, etc etc... :)
Thanks for any ideas,
I am trying to get some info on Tortona. Has anyone heard of it or been there? If so what is it like? is it a small town? How is the everday life there? I have been asked to move there for work (for 18 months!) and I have never heard of it and haven't been able to find much about it anywhere. Thanks,
Just wondering if anyone is aware of any international school/Kindergarten in Torino area where my 4 year old duaghter can study in English ?
I need a apartment (preferably furnished) in the city of Venaria Reale for 6-12 months. We are 2 people. what would be approx. rent for 1 bedroom apt. ?
Can anyone help ?.
Hi All, I will be traveling to the Piedmont area next year and if anyone has been there I have a few questions. What would be some good day trips from the Alba area, small towns, wineries etc. I am also looking for culinary experiences in the area. ...............Thanks for the help........Bill
My next question is where in the south part or surrounding of Turin I could find a good restaurant. I mean big portions of tasty food for reasonable price. I am sure that locals could help me. In the region where I am living I will easily recommend some of such possibilities.
Hello, i was wondering if anyone knows of ANYWHERE to stay for the night of the 12th. we will be traveling from Germany for the Snowboarding event. it will be 3 adults plus a small child. any private accomodations could also be returned in favor of accomodations for the world cup. i live in Wiesbaden and about 10min from the main train station. We are staying in Rapallo for a week in early May (our first visit to the area and of course will visit CT, Santa Margherita etc)...we will have a car and we enjoy taking scenic drives while travelling in Europe (my wife is also a wine lover)...the Langhe area looks beautiful on the web...would you recommend the area around Acqui Terme ,Alba ,Langhe for a day's excursion?
We have 2 tickets for Nordic Combined on Febraury 21, 2006 - at 11.00 amd 15.00 at Paragelato. We will not be able to go and want to sell them.
The price is 60 euro for each (120 Euro total).
We can sell them for 50 euro each (100 Euro total).
We will be in Turin on February 20 around 17.00 and can sell them to anybody who wants them.
