We are scheduled to visit this wonderful island (for the 2nd time) on one of the dreaded cruises. It arrives on Tuesday Nov 11. From another board we were informed that this is St Marteen day and as a government holiday, all shops are required to close.
Can anyone confirm this as being true? If so that may leave a gem or two for someone else to scoop up at a later date :).
I appreciate all of your trusted information and am looking forward to this cruise.

Does anyone have any idea how to go about finding apartments that are not vacation rentals for people who actually want to relocate? All I can find are tons of vacation rentals at vacation rental prices.
I've been trying to get a business going on the island for a little while and it seems next to impossible to get in touch with the individuals on the island that were interested in helping me with this business venture. Can anyone that lives there tell me if this is always the case in areas like st. maartens. I'm thinking that I have to actually go to the island to get anything done. I would appreciate any feedback on this subject.
Since I plan on moving out to st. maarten in may, I was wondering if anyone on the forum had any information on the fitness and workout gyms on the island. I'm a certified personal trainer and I would eventually like to start training people again once my main business venture gets going. I'm also very involved in martial arts, boxing and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. If anyone has any info on any schools in the area I would greatly appreciate it.
