My husband and I will be in the area in March and would like recommendations for vineyards to visit and wines to taste. Thanks!
If you have a vehicle and can drive to Blenheim, I have been to Wither Hills Winery there, and can recommend it. Sure it's big, and commercial, but the wine is exquisite and the food was top class at the restaurant where we had lunch.
We went there as it was close to the amazing Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, which houses one of the world's most impressive collection of flying WW1 aircraft.
Nelson vineyards are listed here:
And there is more selection in the popular neighbouring Marlborough region listed here:
You will see a selection of large commercial ventures as well as the appealing small boutique vineyards.
As Pam already suggested, drive to Blenheim.
A little further down south is my favourite vineyard: Peter Yealands in Seddon. That's in the Awatere Valley which has a different micro-climate.
The winery is spectacular and environmentally friendly, and the huge vineyards are grazed by baby-doll sheep.
Try their champagne. Wonderful!
Thanks so much for the info! Especially the bit about the air museum!
Thanks a million! I'd heard of Peter Yealands; looking forward to visiting in person!
