We will be in New Orleans during Easter. I do collect states and countries and would like to visit Mississippi and Alabama on a day trip. Our plan is to rent a car and go to Mobile, AL, but where should we stop in Mississippi along I-10? I am the owner of a travel blog and want something unique and typical like nice architecture, a restaurant serving a typical dish etc. which I can present in pictures.
Thanks from Lena
hi my name is Carmen im 60 years young and am planning a trip to Mississippi in and around july of this year I am from the land of ozz being Australia was just wondering what are the best sights to see there
Are there any good night clubs for teens under 18 in Biloxi Mississippi?
Need opinions on an extended stay driving in from New Orleans...Gulfport or Biloxi?...We are not gamblers, so a casino is a non issue. Oceanfront, quiet is good.
I'll be in New Orleans for work and would like to extend the trip for a few days. Are there some nice gulf-side resorts?
My friend and I want to visit and our interests and fun we're seeking are hiking, water activities, and some history like museums preferably African-American history, but would love to see some all American history as well. Is there one area within the state we can visit to enjoy all those things or we would have to travel all over?
I will traveling from Destin, FL to Jackson, MS and would like any recommendations for a half way city to spend the night. Thanks!
I've started my preparations for trip to the southern part of the USA (visit summer 2012). I want to visit the music cities in the South (Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans.
I have a question concerning driving from Memphis towards Nachez (via Tupelo ?)
which is the most beautiful scenic route ; down along the Mississipi river, or via the Nachez Trace Parkway ?
or maybe a combination of the both ?
all tips are welcome
Kind regards - Filip
We are going to be in the Louisianna/Mississippi area the second week of Oct. I was wondering if there are any nice beaches we could go to. I am not sure the status of the beaches due to the oil leak.
Any other tips (where to stay, eat, what to do would be great).
We have no plans on where we are going yet but open to suggestions.
Me and my girlfriend (mid 20's) we are planning to travel from New Orleans To Memphis in early june!
We are just after some tips and advice!
We are in no rush and want to stop of in some small towns and visit small town America.
We want to stay in a cuople of b&b/guest house type of accomadation and not a motel6! (Traditional B&B for motel6 price would be nice!!)
Thank you for all you tips!
We are trying to match a midpoint trip between Houston-Atlanta (closer to Atlanta though), and since only MS and AL are teh two states, we are looking for destinations to go to. The month is February hence we do not want to be really cold, but Casino's and Museums are not our interest. I came across some interesting activities for camping in a cabin in Mississippi, but the ideal time is not February.
Just hoping to get some suggestions on possible activities around the area.
Fun destinations around alabama , if any would also help.
age group(25-30) about 5 people travelling.
I saw a documentary about Margaret's Grocery the other day and we are interested in visiting, since we may be doing a road trip of the Southern US next year.
I was wondering if anyone has seen it recently and whether Margaret and her husband Rev. Dennis are still alive. I can't find any recent information on the internet to see if they are still running the grocery/church.
Hi Mississippi Vt members.
My question follows from a thread about the song 'Ode to Billy Joe' that I posted on the miscellaneous forum on Sunday night. There's been a huge response and I would really love to know :
If the Tallahtchie Bridge still exists ?
Does anyone On VT live nearby ?
Does anyone have a photo or tip about it on their pages ?
Any information will bevery gratefullly received.
Greetings from Ireland,
Having never been to Mississippi can anyone recommend any scenic drives in the northern part of the state? We'll be in Memphis for a couple days the last week of April so it's fairly close. Any drives or gardens with spring flowers blooming would be great! Thanks
The fall, I'll be doing a road trip w/ my brother from Hollywood, Fl to our family home in New Mexico. I am thinking of taking I-10 through the Florida panhandle all the way to El Paso. I haven't heard from him about what he wants to see, but none of us are into amusement parks. Nature, history, art, and those kitcshy bits are the types of things I focus on when I road trip alone.
Are there sights I should not miss along this route?
Are there areas that are still not repaired from all of the hurricaine's last year that I should avoid ... or that I should stop in and lend a hand?
BTW- Crossposting in the Florida, Alabama, La, and Tx forums :)
Which road would you recommend taking from Memphis to Natchez?
Would 61 be more scenic than I55 or would it take forever?
We idealy want to arrive before dark.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
I'm off to Mississippi for 3 weeks in July and plan to end up in New Orleans. Never been before - probably the furthest, longest holiday ever for me. We have the flights and car booked already and now want nice, affordable places to stay in the Delta - we'll go anywhere: Jackson, Memphis, Natchez, Hattiesburg... Whatever!
Interests: Photography; Blues Music; Beer; Anything Interesting & Food
Anything, anything at all you have to say will be appreciated except, "whatever you do, don't go to Mississippi in July."
Hi people! Just a little question on tips you might have for a backpack traveller who's starting out in New Orleans on 1 September following the Mississippi then east to Jackson, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville and final destination Mount Vernon Kentucky meeting up with friends... then off to home late September. I'm also thinking about renting a car... any pros and cons you might have? All suggestions are welcome! Cos my planning is not final.. nor will it ever be ;-)) Cookiemonster
