I will be traveling from Chicago to Minneapolis in August this year and am wondering whether I should book a flight (2 1/2 hrs.) or take the bus (8 hrs.). The reason why I am considering taking the bus is because I have never been to Minnesota or Illinois before and taking the bus provides me with the chance to see the scenery.
I have no idea what the landscape between Chicago and Minneapolis looks like so I am struggling to make a decision. Would you recommend taking the bus and be on the road for quite some time or would you say it's not worth it and opt for the more comfortable option and book a flight?
Thanks for your answers!
I have family members who will be in Rochester for 9 days. Have been looking online for some children's activities in the area but not finding that much. Any recommendations? The 12 year old will have most days free - accompanied by her grandfather. They may make a trip to the Mall of America. Are there any good waterslides at a hotel that she can pay to use for the day? She loves soccer and shopping. Her 4 year old brother will be with them some days. Thanks.
I'm visiting friends in Minneapolis and would like to spend a few days skiing in Lutsen. Problem is, I don't drive and have to figure out a way to get there via public transport. I've found out that there are buses from Minneapolis to Duluth, but can't seem to find anything to Lutsen. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get there via bus/train etc?
Many thanks in advance!
This is for anyone traveling or planning to travel in or through Minnesota in the very near future:
As of last night, state government shutdown has suspended the following traveler/tourism services/attractions until budget consensus can be reached:
All state parks and campgrounds
All state museums
Fishing license sales
Minnesota Office of Tourism
Almost all highway wayside rests with bathroom facilities. 3 rest centers will remain open (Brainerd, Park Rapids and Floodwood) as well as those without bathroom facilities.
Privately owned campgrounds and regional parks remain open. Reference the Explore Minnesota website for continuing info and locating attractions still functioning during the shutdown.
I'm going to be moving from Denver to Minnesota. We are looking to spend at the most 500,000.We are in our middle 40's with no kids just 4 dogs. We'd like to be close to shopping, restraunts, bars, coffee shops ect...

Hi, I am going for a short trip to Minnesota in 2 days time, I thought of going to Mall of America and really like to go somewhere to see some Moose. Ideally it should be some kind of drive through safari where we can get up close and personal with some Moose but I can't seem to find this on the Internet.
Anyone have any suggestions / recommendations?
We have the long weekend coming up, however we are a little clueless on what is a good getaway for a 3 day weekend from St Paul/Minneapolis. We have already been to Duluth a couple of times. We are nature lovers and not really into fishing or boating.Any places in SD or WI that we can drive to in this weekend? Any ideas will be appreciated! Thanks a bunch in advance!
would anyone of you like to go to Mount Rushmore on July 3rd and July 4th for the Independence Day celebrations?
I will be on a Greyhound trip through the US. Since bus service between Sioux Falls (South Dakota - close to Minnesota border) and Rapid City as well as public transportation around Rapid City is very rare, I will rent a car in Sioux Falls on the morning of July 3rd and drive over to Mount Rushmore.
If anyone wants to join me going west on July 3rd and/or going east on July 4th, then please let me know...
I'm coming to Minneapolis from July18 to 21 for an important family event- that is if I canget an airlines ticket that won't leave me homeless. Any ideas?
I'm in Minnesota soon on business and whilst I'm there would like to check out a few bars that might be up for hosting live music evenings sometime soon....
As a sideline I am involved with 3 marvellous young up and coming UK indie guitarpop bands and would like to set up a mini tour in stateside bars/venues...
Any recommendations on bars that might be worth checking out...
All ideas gratefully recieved
My 8 year old son has Spring break from March 28th to April 5th. We live in Eden Prairie, Minnesota and have been to the Mall of America, Children's Museum. Could you suggest some places around Eden Prairie (up to 200-250 miles of travel is also fine) that we could go so that he can enjoy Spring Break.
Thanks in advance.
I had heard about a hotel that had 'theme' rooms. Like a jungle room. Is there still such a hotel in the twin cities area. Appreciate any information. Thank you.
My husband and I are flying in and out of MSP airport on 27 June. We are arrive on an international flight from London and are flying on to Billings, MT but there is a 5 and three quarter hr period between landing and our onward flight. Even allowing for clearing immigration and re-checking our baggage again for the internal flight this is going to be a bit of a wait.
Can anyone suggest an original or innovative way of killing time at this airport, I assume the time wont quite allow for us to make a quick visit into downtown Minneapolis.
My Danish girlfriend and I are planning a trip to the States in June 2007 and we would love to spend some time with a 'local'. :-)
Our plan is to fly into Chicago then spend around three weeks traveling through Illinois, Iowa, South & North Dakota and Minnesota to see some of what we consider to be the real America.
I am 31, UK/NZ dual national and my girlfriend is 30 and 100% Danish. We are a cool, laid back couple who have traveled quite a bit and love meeting people from all over. We currently live and work in Copenhagen, Denmark.
If any of you good people at VT would be kind enough to offer a sofa/bed/whatever to crash on for a couple of nights we'd really appreciate it! Alternatively if you would like to catch up and swap some travel stories we'd be keen to meet you. Perhaps even arrange a little VT meet?
Drop me an email if interested?
Do they still have entertainment and food booths over the noon hour and how do I find out what the entertainment is for each day
Hi people me and a friend will be arriving on December 15th and staying until the 20th. We are visiting due to him being a Vikes fan and me a Jets fan. The game is on the Sunday and i just wanted some suggestions as to what we could do whilst we are visiting, are there any places to check out, or will we even be able to?? As i know winter in Minnesota can be pretty bad!!
Thanks in advance.
I was just accepted to UCSD and Minnesota for doctorate programs (so I should be around for at least 3 years of coursework if not 6 years to write the disseration). So in both places I would have about 15,000. I do not have a car.
About me and what I like in cities: I'm from NY so I love walkable cities with good transport. I love the outdoors, warm weather, theater, dancing, and live music. I'm pretty liberal and enjoy being in a progressive diverse environment.
Any thoughts on San Diego or Minneapolis? I love the idea of San Diego, and I even have a surfboard. But is it realistic to get by on 15,000 and without a car? what about in Minneapolis? Is it really that cold? I can't stand to think about not running outside everyday.
Does anyone know of someone there in Minn. by the name of Robert Funk? He would be about 60-65 years old. We were buddies in the Army and I have tried to find him by various means, but thouht I might try here. He and his wife lived in White.....(?) near St. Paul. I have already check other Internet sources, but thought just maybe..
We will be on a cross country trip in June. We will be leaving Mt. Rushmore and our next destination is Galena, IL. Since this is quite a distance, we thought we'd stop somewhere in between. Any recommendations for something to see along the way in Minnesota?
there is a chance that i may move to minn/st paul area. here in Buffalo where i just moved, there's NO jobs, and I saw that the company i currently work for has A LOT of job openings in Eagan (spelling?). Can someone tell me some real estate websites.. thanks much
I want to take my boyfriend to St. Paul for a hockey game. As I'm flying all the way from Vancouver, I'd also like to see if I can hit up the MOA.
Can anyone tell me how far apart the mall in Bloomington is from the Xcel centre in St. Paul? I'm not 25, so I can't rent a car. What would be the best way to do it? Greyhound? Somehow I don't think it's exactly taxi-able.
Thanks for any help I can get.
Need a weekend B and B type getaway sometime in the next 6-8 weeks for myself and my lady. I'd like to do the fall colors thing....trees, lake, quiet etc.... in Northern MN or Wisconsin. In the past we've done The Stone Hearth Inn but I'm sure they are full by this time.
We are looking for a jacuzzi, privacy, and a view if we can get it. Does anyone have any hints about good B and B's they could suggest. We know we aren't going to get the best trying to book this late but I thought it was worth a shot to see if any one knows of any hidden gems.
I know we are mad but my friends and I are coming for a 5 day trip to Mall of America in November. I'm sure its very nice but I really want to do a bit more than spend my time in a shopping centre. Any advice of things to do would be great. Also would like recommends of pubs - i'm from scotland in early 40's and we like to go drinking at in the evening. I don't want to go to the kids places though.
We're staying in Bloomington - is there anywhere there or should we go into town its self. We've not hired a car so will just take a cab.
Looking forward to the trip and any advice on making it better greatly appreciated. Oh and by the way .... how cold will it be. I went to NY in Nov once and it was freezing even for us hardy scots!
We will be traveling to Minnesota this July for the first time. Can anyone recommend things to do near the Jeffers Petroglyphs and/or Walnut Grove? Does anyone have a recommendation for where to stay? We don't mind camping and we have two boys aged almost 7 and 5. Thanks in advance for your help!
Is anyone interested in buying a plane ticket to Bermuda leaving May 16 returning in ten days, selling for500 or best offer? Had a friend who got the raw end of deal and if she can't get rid of it she's out600.
I should be in the Lake Park area in a few months for a wedding. Is there anything interesting to see around that area? I'd like to do something on the trip since I'll be traveling such a long distance.... any suggestions? Thanks. :-)
