We are considering renting a car and driving from Athens to Meteroa and Delphi before flying to Crete at the end of June. We plan to leave Athens on a Sunday morning and depart for Crete Monday afternoon. What is the drive like- length in hours, difficulty following directions, difficulty manuevering the road? Do we have time for Meteora and Delphi? Are there any issues with anyting being closed on Sunday? We haven't set our flight time to Crete and want to figure out our timng.
Any other helpful hints appreciated. Thanks!
FROM ATHENS TO DELPHI IS ABOUT 2 HOURS. THEN FROM DELPI TO METEORA IS ABOUT 3,5 HOURS. THE ROAD ATHENS TO DELPHI IS MOSTLY THRU MOUNTAIN. FROM DELPHI TO KALAMPAKA (METEORA IS THERE) IS MUCH BETTER. THRU MOUNTAINS FROM DELPHI TILL LAMIA. AT LAMIA YOU'LL DRIVE AT THE HIGHWAY FOR A WHILE AND YOU'LL TURN TO THE ROAD TO KARDITSA - TRIKALA - KALAMPAKA, THIS ROAD IS MOSTLY THRU THE FIELDS BUT IT'S NOT HIGHWAY. AT THE RETURN YOU'LL DRINE BACK TO LAMIA BUT YOU WON'T RETURN AT DELPHI, YOU'LL CONTINUE AT THE HIGHWAY TO ATHENS. FORM KALAMPAKA TO ATHENS IS ABOUT 4 HOURS. AS I KNOW BOTH ARE OPEN ON SUNDAYS BUT THE MONASTERIES AT METEORA ARE CLOSING 6 0R 7 PM. OR YOU CAN VISIT THEM MONDAY MORNING. (CHECK THE MAPS AT EXPEDIA.COM) HAVE NICE HOLIDAYS
