skiing in april

Is there always plenty of snow in april? Are all the runs open? Is the snow good all day?

Based upon the snowfall so far this season there should be skiing through April, even without any additional dumps. That said, it sure would be nice for a couple feet of fresh as it has been several weeks with no snow. Usually they start closing the runs on the East side of the Mountain in April, depending on the conditions. There is still a lot of mountain open. They do a good job grooming the slopes all season. The conditions are generally hard in the morning, loosening up by 10:30, and then by 1 PM you start getting slush in some areas. Karl

Mammoth usually gets some snow days in April to give the runs some nice powder. This year, even though it has not snowed in a while, the base is higher than normal and some years, skiing is available into late June. After spring break, this year, any where from March 14 till April 1, and then the area becomes more quiet and the runs are wide open. Less skiers/snowboarders and the runs stay good. Still not that warm to slush the snow that much, but it could be spring conditions with packed icy snow. Best bet is to stay in touch with the ski conditions as this has been one crazy weather year. We always go to Mammoth during Spring Break (around Easter) and there has always been plenty of snow--sometimes new, but always a deep base. I'm sure you can plan on a great time!
