Walking in Malta  (6 Answers)

I'm thinking about planning a trip to Malta and Gozo. We enjoy hiking and walking, so I'm contemplating walking the coastal trails (or part of the trails) on both islands. Has anyone done this type of trip independently? I've found several travel agencies that provide maps, hotels and luggage transport, which is appealing, but I'd prefer to plan and book everything myself. Is there a service on Malta or Gozo that will transport luggage from hotel to hotel so the visitor can walk?

Is it November still a good time of the year to visit Malta?  (9 Answers)

Hi everyone! Wanna take a 4 days off next November. I was wondering about going to Malta, that seems to be perfect destination for is trip: I would be solo travel and I'm looking for relax and chill, I would love to find myself into an island atmosphere rather than a big city life this time. In particular, I love sea, sunset, natural landscapes, port and fishing village. I am not really too worried about laying on the beach ( that of course I love , but do not expect it in November) Yes, some nightlife is appreciated. I am a bit concerned about weather: do you think November will still make the trip worth? Or should I save Malta as destination maybe for next summer? If coming next November, which would be best places to go and activities to do? Thank you so much in advance Happy travel Dadi

From Malta to Sicily  (3 Answers)

Hello fellow VT!

I will be in Malta later this month for one full week. I was thinking of hopping over to Sicily for a day trip if it's actually feasible. Would you happen to know how I can get to Sicily from Malta and how much approximately this would cost?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions :-)

Cheers,

Where in Malta should a first-timer stay?  (12 Answers)

Hello. I am a new guy on VT, and need advice. I am tempted to buy my wife a short trip to Malta for Christmas as a surprise. She loved Santorini a couple years ago. Malta has lots of different areas which sound interesting. We will probably travel in late February or early March. IF you were to advise someone for a first-time short vacation in Malta, where would you recommend staying as our home base? Thank you.

Malta before Christmas  (12 Answers)

I'm coming for 4 days and shall be staying in St. Paul's Bay. We'd like to visit Gozo for a day. I'm looking for some tips to make this day more successful, so maybe anybody can help me with logistics - I'm hearing a lot of bad reviews about unreliable and slow buses there and all over Malta
The other question concerns Christmas celebrations - any recommendations what to visit? Markets, concerts, etc...

Diving round Malta  (1 Answer)

Hi there,

Planning my first trip to Malta in October.

And now I'm looking for the most helpful information concerning the up coming trip.

In this topic I hope to find some utolity information regarding diving round Malta,

we are two not so much experienced divers, Padi OWD, but too exited to dive new places and see this unique underwater beauty and mystery.

We are interested in to start with some shore diving not far from the coast, and one or two trips by boat to some outstanding dive sites.

Please be so kind to advise what destination to choose not far from good and quality dive shop

Hope will be lucky to read about it within TripAdvisor.

What will you advise to take some equipment with me or not, whether it is good enough?

What is about diving insurance, should I attend it in advance or get it upon arrival?

Should we be aware of anything?

Denis.

Malta diving trip  (3 Answers)

Hi there

This August I`ll go to Malta for my birthday with my boyfriend. I just started searching for hotel and divecenter. I`m certified diver (CMAS *) and I`m thinking about getting PADI AOWD/CMAS ** certificate during this trip, my boyfriend has never dive before so he probably will get OWD certificate. Hope you will help me to find answers for following questions:

- What is better, to choose 5* hotel and eat there or 3*-4* hotel and eat in the city?
- Which location to choose? Gozo or somewhere else?
- Have you visited any dive center? Which one do you recommend? (We are looking for fun and professional instructors, for teaching my boyfriend)
- Any info we should know before visiting Malta (ferry boat, food, etc.)
- What fun to do for birthday party (clubs, shows, fun activities etc.)

Thank you in advance, hope you will help us to make this trip awesome

Malta pass - any experiences?  (2 Answers)

We're travelling to Malta in June. I've just come across an advertisement about the Malta pass. In some countries, these passes are well worth their price, in other places not at all. If someone has first-hand experience about the pass, I'd be more than happy to read it.
INFO: prices in May - with 50% discount are the following: one-day pass 24,95 EUR; two-day pass 39,95 EUR, three-day pass 49,95 EUR. If you purchase the pass until the end of May, you can get it for these reduced prices; and the pass is valid for 12 months. So if someone is considering buying such a pass, it's worth getting it in May. (You can buy it online, if you wish.)

Car hire in Malta  (14 Answers)

Hello Peeps,
I will be visiting friends for a week and I will be staying in Santa Venera.
I know there are plenty local buses to take me to Sliema, Valetta, Msida and sarrounding area.
I know that weekly ticket for the local bus is €6.50 so I have that covered
My question is : does the island warrant car hire or I can do the travelling around on public transport??
I don't mind public transport, actually
I prefer it, as that way you get involved in everyday local life so going on public transport is no issue.
Just wondered what is better, altho it seems car hire for a week is more expensive than two Ryanair tickets to Malta.
Any advice?
I would appreciate any input you have on the matter.
Many thanks

Carnival, Ghane, Live music venues. local fast food, nice walking trials  (8 Answers)

Hi,
I'm coming soon.
1.Carnival
Is there anything in Valletta or Floriana on this Sunday night?
How to divide ny time on this Monday, Tuesday between Valleta, Floriana and Gozo (Rabat, Nadur)?
Where is more local (I mean original not so just as another street event) atmosphere
2. Music
Can I listen ghane anywhere between 15 and 22.02? Any other events? I know about Lucilla Galeazzi' concert
Any other all kind live music venues in this period?
3. Local (not international) fast (to grab, but tasty) food recommendations? I have already found some on the Internet myself
4. Any particular hiking trials? I have heard about Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park?

Thanks,

Maciek

Wedding at Mellieha Bay Hotel  (1 Answer)

Hi everyone,

I have just booked to get married at Melliaha Bay Hotel and while I have seen lots of good reviews about weddings there I am struggling to find any photo's of weddings in the Gazebo and I have also seen from one of the reviews that guests have to stand as there is no room.

If anyone has photo's they could send me I would be very grateful. I would also like to know what you did with your guests as I don't want them to be uncomfortable!

Many thanks

Best (most central?) location to be on Malta?  (9 Answers)

We are thinking of a 3 or 4 day excursion to Malta in late May. There are a number of islands, etc. We don't want to move every day. How easy is it to go from one to the other by ferry for a day-trip? All suggestions are welcome, including hotels. We will consider upscale as long as its worth the experience.

Thanks.

Carl

Malta in May!!  (4 Answers)

Okay, so I'm going to Malta, for the first time ever! and there is the possibility that I'll be going alone D:
Is it expensive to eat out? I'm going for 10 days how much spending money should I take?
I plan on going on the blue lagoon boat to gozo and comino - Has anyone been on the full day trip and is it worth the 50 euros?
What is accepted as ID in Malta - apart from your passport (I don't really wanna take this around with me all day every day)
Is there any must see sights? I'll be 18, I like a bit of sight seeing and history.
Is there a safe path to walk the length (or width) of the island? If so where could I get a map from?
Is the bus services reliable? I live in England where the buses don't show up half the time..
I plan on staying in the Blue Sea San Anton hotel and apartment in Bugibba - has anyone stayed here before? or can recommend a nicer cheapish hotel?

The "lost planets" of Qwara

We have stayed in Qwara/Buggiba twice now - during our first visit in 2008 we walked the sea-front promenade from the very end of Qwara to the very end of Buggiba (above the harbour) and along the way saw these wonderful sculptures of the planets. At the Qwara end, we started with Mercury and gradually walked along passing Venus, Earth, Mars ......etc. all the way to tiny Pluto above Bugibba Harbour. The sculptures were set on the wall/railings and were spaced-apart in proportion to their distance from the sun and each other. So, the first "inner" planets were fairly close together and then from Mars outwards became quite distant from each other with Pluto being quite remote.
This year, with all the building work going-on for the new sea life centre, we only found two planets near the central promenade area and Pluto had gone all together!
Will they put the missing planets back once building work has finished?
Was Pluto "demoted" as it was considered not to be a planet recently?
The mystery continues!
