Malaysia

First trip to Malaysia

Hi:
We are a group of nine family members traveling to Malaysia for the first time. I have no idea on where to stay, what cities to visit, thought we can't be very mobile for some of the elder members of the family. We love to see something different than modern city, something more of a culture and people of the Malaysia.'
Would anybody help us.
thanks

Take a look at our Malaysia guide which will help you know about the place you intended to visit and choose the activities which may interest you, since your profile is not complete it is really difficult to provide any good help, Malaysia is fairly big country and whole lot to do/see

Beaches you can go to Langkawi and Penang etc and for metro city you can enjoy Kuala Lumpur but please elaborate your question so you can get more helpful relays.

For a taste of historical/colonial Malaysia i suggest Penang.
For cool weather try the Cameron Highlands.
For a trip to the jungle how about Taman Negara
Melaka would be another built up area to visit.
Beaches--some great beaches on the West Coast or on the islands.
As suggested look through the VT tips regarding Malaysia and you should get an idea of the places you may be interested in.
The elderly members of the family could relax in the hotel while the more active ones could explore some of these places.

Hi,

If you want something away from the modern city, but nothing too inhospitable for your elderly travellers, then I recommend either Penang or Langkawi. The Perhentian Islands are good too, but they tend to be for the younger crowd only. Malaysian Borneo is beautiful but it is not easy to get around. Kuala Lumpur is a huge modern city.

But Langkawi and Penang are perfect. Personally I like Penang better. There are cheap flights from Kuala Lumpur to Penang with AirAsia.

Have a great holiday!

Also I have hired a car for 2 weeks and driven from KL to Cameron Highlands, Penang Island across the causway bridge, and Malacca. Roads are good, they use the British system, drive on left hand side of road.

How long will you stay there? I think Penang and Meleka with deep Nyonya culture and history will be interesting to you.

Malaysia offers culture, sea and entertainment which is a perfect combination. Although Kuala Lumpur is a big modern city, you can find everything you look for. You can visit Melaka which is an old port town influenced by many different cultures. You can visit the islands such as Redang, Langkawi or Tioman. Instead of peninsular Malaysia, you can also visit Borneo. In this case Kota Kinabalu could be an interesting location. You can check my pages which I provide the links below :

Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Genting Highland will be good enough if you are traveling with old folks.
If you dont mind spending for local flight then you should fly to Langkawai for beach and have time you can visit Penang as well..
