Sachen-Ticket  (9 Answers)

Good day !

May I ask about Sachen-Ticket ? I have read that I can buy just one ticket and use it during a day in one land.
In my next trip I 'm going to visit Chemnitz from Dresden and then go to Liepzig in the same say. And I've bought Sachen-Ticket already. There is information about just Dresden or Chemnitz but Leipzig in this ticket.
Can I use it or not to get to Leipzig that day too? What was my mistake? What ticket should I bought?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Christmas in Saxony and Prague  (2 Answers)

We want to spend about 10 days over Christmas visiting Prague & Dresden, listening to music, visiting Christmas fairs. We also want to spend 3-4 days over Christmas itself in a luxury/interesting country hotel that is accessible via public transportation from Dresden, a hotel/inn with good food and good walks. Any ideas? Thank you.

Hiking to Schrammsteinaussicht  (1 Answer)

Hello all! I have some questions regarding hiking to the schrammsteinaussicht – the 417.2m viewing point of the Schrammsteine. Is the Schrammsteinbaude restaurant (stone cottage Schramm) the best place to leave from? I chose this as a starting point because it can be reached by the S1 from Dresden and bus 252 from Bad Schandau.

From there, how clearly marked are the trails leading to the schrammsteinaussicht? Which route is the best to take? Will I need a map of the trails to get there and, if so, where do I get one?

If anyone could give me directions/landmarks to look for that would be great! Basically, I have no idea what to expect beyond arriving at the restaurant.

Thank you so much!

Dresden surrounding + accommodation  (10 Answers)

hi all,

I'm planning on visiting Dresden next month. I'm wondering if anyone can advise a small family hotel or B&B or possibly an apartment in a little town or village near Dresden.
Last year we stayed in Thüringen for 50 euro a night (double room, family hotel, small village). I reckon I'd like to keep to that budget for this year also.
Location-wise it may be useful to know that we may want to pop over to Prague for a day or two.
Thanks!

Lodging in Leipzig, a bit of paranoia and lack of exprerience  (8 Answers)

Dear friends,
I'm going to Germany for the first time in my life, and it is my second trip to the European Union. Has anybody stayed in the pension Allround (Allround Zimmervermittlung)? If yes, please share your impressions. I'm a bit paranoid about online booking, because during my previous trip (in Italy) I had a very unpleasant incident with lodging...

Olbernhau and Borstendorf area?

Do any of you have much knowlege of the area around Olbernhau and Borstendorf? We'd be interseted in places to stay, eat, see.

We'll spend 2 days of our Germany trip in September in that area. (My wife's father is from there in the early 1900's, so we'll be doing a bit of geneaology/roots)

Budget Accomodation in Oberwiesenthal  (2 Answers)

Hi,

I'm looking for a budget Accomodation in Oberwiesenthal (around 20euro per person per night). I have sent booking to the Neudorf "Am Fichtelberg" Hostel but I wonder if they are close now since I got no reply from them.

So, is there any recommandation? All I need is the place can be reached by public transport.

In case you are not familiar with that, do you know if there is any tourist center that can help booking accomodations?

Rgds,

GG

Transportation in Erzgebirge  (1 Answer)

Thanks for some VT member's recommandation to Erzgebirge.

I'm planning to stay in Neudorf "Am Fichtelberg" Hostel which is near Vierenstraße train station. I would like to visit / try the things below:
1) the FICHTELBERG SCHWEBEBAHN KURORT OBERWIESENTHAL cable car
2) the Fichtelbergbahn steamer
3) Freiberg, the old minner town

Is there any passes that will be a cheaper transportation option to get around those places?

Rgds,

GG

Trip to Dresden and Blumenau  (2 Answers)

We need help conceptualizing a trip to Dresden and Land Sachsen.

It will be our first trip to Europe (in Sept.). We'll spend 16 days, likely flying into Frankfurt, visiting Dresden/Saxony, Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, and Rhineland/Mosel.
We want to visit Dresden and Blumenau, a small village where my wife's father was born near Olbernau. (I know, trying to cram too much into a short trip, but likely our only trip to Germany/CR/Austria, so want to see a wider area)

We're considering the following:
1. flying into Dresden from Frankfurt at the very beginning of our trip and staying there for 3 nights, 2.5 days. One of those days we'd rent a car and drive to the Erzenbirge and Blumenau.
or
2. renting a car in Frankfurt and driving through Sachsen to Olbernau or thereabouts, then thew next day going to Dresden for 1 or 2 days.

Questions:
(a) Is it reasonable to drive Frankfurt to Olbernau in a day, or need 2?
(b) Anything you'd recommend we see in the Erzenbirge / Olbernau area?
(c) Any commennts re our itinerary?
My wife and I are in our early 60's. Things we enjoy: historic places, meeting people, new sights, normal tourist things, outdoor activities (at home we hike and ski a lot), and discovering interesting non-tourist things.

Hi, this is my frist time to Germany and I'm going to spend 2 to 3 days in Sachsen early Feburary. I read from book that there are beautiful landscapes in the area, e.g. Rathen. I have a few questions:
I would like to see some natural scenes. Can you suggest me some?
Are those natural scene difficult to reach?
Is it safe to go there alone?
Is there any local tour available?

Thanks!

Transportation to Thalheim  (2 Answers)

Part of our travel group wants to visit some relation in Thalheim, Saxony while the rest of us tour Dresden and Leipzig. It's south of Chemnitz. Any travel arrangements that I can find from Dresden appear very round-about. The group includes an older lady and a 7 year old so I'd like to find the easiest route. Any recommendations? Also, by all accounts it's a very nice little town. Any reason for the rest of us to stop by for an overnight?
