MapQuest wanted to route me on autobans that appeared to take me a little out of the way, so I elected smaller roads for part of the route -- but I need local knowledge if this is a smart choice. Essentially from Westerstede to Bremerhaven I travel on smaller roads. Also I take the tunnel - should I opt for the ferry?
Leaving - I go pretty much straight across to Gluckstadt - again smart move?
Hello VTers! After a wonderful winter holiday on the island of Sylt last year, my wife and I are planning to visit a North Sea destination again this year. The approximate time will be one week between 28 December 2014 and 4 January 2015. We'd love to go to a different island this year, so I'd be grateful for recommendations. Sylt provided us with a few nice sights (traditional villages, lighthouses), lots of nature and very nice beach walks as well as the nicest sauna I've been to. Is something similar to be found on the Lower Saxonian islands? Which one would you prefer for a week-long stay, i.e. do they provide enough things to see for that time in winter? Or does it make sense to change the island halfway through the holiday? A first browse of the islands' websites made them seem quite similar... Also, is it recommendable to do a quick stopover in the northern Netherlands or does that take too much time?
Any help is highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
It's that time of year again when I'm thinking of German destinations for a bit of Christmas cheer. I was tempted to stay in the UK this year but the adventurous part of me wants to see somewhere new in Germany, preferably in Lower Saxony (an area I like a lot). Has anyone got any suggestions for towns that aren't necessarily on the tourist trail but have nice markets? Also somewhere with good rail links to the major conurbations would be good, so I can keep myself occupied during the day with museums etc too. I have been to Bremen, Hanover and Oldenburg markets before so I would prefer suggestions elsewhere. Thanks!
Thinking of doing a river cruise on the upper part of Weser next week, but can't seem to find exact info on the net about schedules and from where they go. Was thinking of going from Hameln and up-river. Anyone tried this? Are there daily trips?
Just to start an easy question but impossible for me to find the answer.
The question is What and where is a special 'monument' in Niedersachsen. It's like a grey traffic policeman who is in an red&white stripped base in a roundabout...
Could anybody help me??
Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase Friesengiest in the United States? I fell in love with this wonderful drink while living in Berlin and am down to my last bottle. Please help!
We are a Norwegian family of 4, 2 adults and boys aged 12 and 14. We plan to stay at a camping in Niedersachsen for å week in the beginning of August, and wonder if anyone know a nice camping in the area. We are looking for a camping with swimmingpool and other activities for the boys, in an area whre we can visit nice and charming german villages. Nice Inns or B&Bs might also be of interest.
We may be doing a home exhange with someone in Bucholz (Aller). Its about 30km north of Hannover. We would be doing this at Christmas time.
Does anybody know anything about that area and what would be fun to do at that time of the year?
We like art, museums, old buildings, shopping, music, food, hiking, skiing, history.
Hello, we are pleased to go to Germany Goslar for a short Christmas visit.
We will be driving Zwolle - Tecklenburg (24dec) - Goslar-(26dec) Osnabruck.
As this is just a very short visit we would love to make the drive from Tecklenburg to Goslar and from Goslar to Osnabruck also as nice as possible.
Does anyone who lives in the area will be so kind to give us driving directions enabling us to make the drive a scenic route.
Or if there is a scenic route in this area point this out to us.
Thank you very much
I will also post this question on the Land Nordrhein-Westfalen Forum
Hi, I don't speak Dutch or German. I'm having a hard time looking up information on a roundtrip train ticket from Amsterdam to Lemforde, Germany. I was told that i'm better off buying a ticket from Amsterdam to Osnabruck because I don't have to change trains. Is this true? How many train changes would I have to make to Lemforde? How much would a train ticket cost? How much would a taxi from Osnabruck to Lemforde cost? Anyone have any links to a an enlgish or spanish site where I can look up this info. Anyone that can give my brother an I a ride there for a few Euros send me an email. Thanks in advance. Sergio
If you are intending to going down to France, and specially to the Provence/Cote d'Azur area, let me know I could share your travel expenses or offer you a weekend accomodation in Juan-les-Pins/Antibes, 50m away from the free sandy beaches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This summer I intend to bike from Puttgarden and westward to Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven, Emden and into Holland. Questions : 1. In Denmark and Norway it is possible to enter a public library and use Internet for half an hour. Is it possible in Germany ? 2. When using Visa or ATM it is possible to ask the counter to withdraw an added amount of money instead of getting money using a bank terminal. Can I do so in Germany ?
One of these days my family and I want to visit a christmas fair in the northern part of Germany. We live in Groningen, about half an hour from the German border. We are hoping 2 find a fair somewhere in between these places: Groningen, Wilhelmshafen, Osnabruck, Münster, Gronau, Meppen, Lingen, Groningen. So our traveltime won t be over the 1 1/2 hours or a bit more. I have tried the net but couldn t succeed so I am hoping one of you has some inside information for the best place. :) Thanks in advance! Roelien
