I want to buy a welcome card for when I arrive in Berlin. I arrive at night and want a 72 hour card. Is it valid from when you arrive? As i am there for three full days ( Leave late on the third day)would it be better to validate the card the next morning
Hello Dear Berlin-experts.
Silly question I know: arriving in Berlin last week of May and leaving 11 June.
Apart from attending a friend's wedding I am free for rest of the travel time here. Are there loads of things in Berlin that would occupy my time for about 2 weeks? Or better to take the opportunity to travel across the country??
I am aware of the unique-ness of Berlin comparing to other major cities in Germany ... so please bear with my silly question and thank you to all
I'm an American thinking about moving to Berlin in a few months and I'm hoping to get a rough idea of the rent for a relatively low-end, budget-conscious efficiency flat. I would want to avoid any high crime areas (don't know if Germany has anything remotely comparable to the US in this regard), and wouldn't want to be a long ways from restaurants, night-life, etc. I'd welcome any recommendations on neighborhoods that fit the criteria.
Also, can anyone tell me roughly what the cost of such a flat would be if purchased? And is there much of a resale market? The last thing I read about Berlin was that there were plenty of cheap flats on the market, but it would be very difficult to resell them.
Thanks for any guidance you can give.
This is my first post here :)
I'm a 26 year old male from Sydney, Australia and I am looking to move to Berlin for a year with the intention of staying permanently. I fell in love with the place a few years ago!
I have spent 8 years playing music around Australia (about 4 years of that pretty seriously) and currently work as a cameraman and video editor in Sydney.
I am looking to find work in Berlin in the Film/ TV industry if possible but the main thing i wish to do for 6 months over there is to immerse myself into as many creative communities as possible playing music, creating films etc.
Would anyone have any recommendations of music venues, bars and pubs to contact for work or alternatively any independent film studios or the like?
Furthermore, if anyone has any information on places they found to be good fun in Berlin that would be equally as good!
Thanks for your time
Second time visiting Berlin, but the time before, 2008, I did it with CouchSurfing, so I am not very familiar with where good hostels are located. I heard from a friend that Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz was a good location and had some cheap hostels around. Can any concur?

We travel to Berlin every year for up to a month at a time and like to have a cell phone for emergencies only. We have an unlocked quad band phone and would like to purchase a sim card for use in Germany. We are trying to find one where the minutes do not expire within 12 months. I am refering to the minutes not the sim. I think that Telecom cards are good for 12 months but I don't understand if that is for the origional Xtra Card with 10€ start time or if the 12 month duration requires a larger amount.
I have just booked a trip to visit Berlin during the Christmas Market period as I know Germans are good at those markets.
When I google Christmas Markets in Berlin I get the answer that it is more than 50 different markets, but only a few have some information (Gendarmenmarkt, Schloss Charlottenburg, Potsdamer Platz etc.).
So, where can I find more information on the Christmas Markets (information in German is ok too)?
And which ones is worth a visit (even among the one I mention above)?

Hi there, we land at Tegel airport this Friday evening and have been advised to purchase this card for transport and discounts etc. Will we be able to use the card immediately for transport into Mohrenstrasse 30 area where our hotel is located. Also, what type of local transport is it from the airport to this place, how far away is it? Is the place where we buy the card easy to find as we do not speak German unfortunately! Thanks for any advice.

Hello to everyone!
Just a s small question for the ones that may know:
I arrive in Berlin at 22.25 on (a) Friday night and have to be at the bus station ZOB am Funkturm at 23.30 the latest as my bus leaves at 23.55. Will it be possible? If yes which is the best price/time option? Taxi? S9? Bus?
I looked up some online itenerary sites and they propose me to change several buses and S-U bahns. Is this necessary? E.g. I thought that I may take S9 until AlexanderPlatz and then take U2? Is this possible given my time limits?
Thanks in advance!

Me and my boyfriend are heading to Berlin this weekend and want to go to Panorama bar. However we have heard they hate english people and have crazy door policies on who they let in. Has anyone got any tips that mean we are more likely to get in?
My boyfriend and i have just arrived in Berlin from southern Spain...we are on a camping trip, but need a holiday from camping!!! We want to continue in Berlin for 2 weeks and would like to rent a room from a Berliner to get a profound understanding of the city.
Anyone up for renting us a room...a possibility is swapping house keys if you want to stay in our apartment in the city centre of Cadiz, Andalucia.
Ill check in tomorrow to see if anyone has replied.
I'm planning to go to a festival in Delitzsch (Germany) in July (I'm English, so I'll be coming from the UK), and I'll be travelling alone. I'm looking to Fly into Berlin-Schönefeld late on Thursday night (landing at 22:45 local time), get a train to the festival early Friday, then fly back Monday in the late afternoon.
The problem I have is that I'd rather not risk leaving my plane tickets, and more importantly my passport, in my tent while I'm off enjoying myself. So, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of possible places which I could store my valuables for 3 nights?
I’ll be flying in and flying out from Berlin-Schönefeld, as well as going via Berlin Hauptbahnhof on the Thursday night (heading to the hotel), Friday morning (heading the festival), and Monday (on my way back to the airport). I'm aware that there's a left luggage office, as well as luggage lockers at airport, and there's a left luggage office at train station. Does anyone have experience with these and can recommend either way?
If anyone thinks that me leaving such valuable items in locker/luggage office is a really really bad idea, please tell me - because I’d really rather not find this out the hard way.
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with my search to find an area to rent an apartment in Berlin.
I'll be in Berlin to do some internship/work experience in September 08 and am wondering where a good area is to rent in for someone on a budget (but not too small a budget)? I'd still like to be fairly central.
If anyone could give me some pointers as to where to look for an apartment (websites or good areas), or any other tips, I'd be very grateful. Thank you!
We will be arriving in Warnemunde on a cruise ship this summer and wonder if you could recommend what we should do? We're a family of five with three teenagers. Should we stay near the port and enjoy the local towns or should we go to Berlin? The cruiseline offers many tours but by the time we pay for five people we might as well hire a private guide.
Also, if we do decide on Berlin what do you think we should see? I recieved one quote from Berlin Walks for 889 euros for the transportation and tour, does that seem like a fair price?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Have you ever eaten currywurst outside Germany?
It´s the first time, i´ve been here, and I would like to know, if I can find it anywhere else, or not. Cuz I like it very much :):)
I've always wanted to visit Berlin - the historical side of it. Most probably, I'll be arriving in Berlin-Tegel airport. To all VT members living in Berlin, if you have time, would you be so kind to recommend a hotel in a quiet area. I suppose the taxis are a plenty at the airport and are all reliable? Please recommend places to visit. I'd love to see the old Berlin wall, museums, a garden or a park and perhaps a concert in one evening. Many thanks in advance!
