I am planning to do the Zanskar trek from Padum to Lamayuru next summer, however my budget is tight and I would like to do it alone (without guide).
I will be carrying a reliable GPS so I am confident I will find the way. My main concern is to know if homestays can be found all along the itinerary or if I will have to carry tent and food?
Do you know if homestays can be found in Hanamur and Snertse?
Would anyone inform names of good travel operators in the valley.

Hi, I am visiting Leh/Ladakh in the first two weeks on June, What are the essential things we need to carry in terms of clothing. Is it too cold even in the June or is it okay to carry thermal inner plus any swaeatshirt/jacket apart from your regular clothes?
Plus, as me and my father already have the glasses, so we cant wear goggles, will normal specs will do or need anything else?
For shoes i think normal sports shoes will do or not?

Thanks!

We are going for the Hemis festival 29th/30th June. I will also do the Lamayuru to Alchi trek after that. Just wanted to know whether this trek can be done with homestays (without carrying tents) just like we did the Markha valley trel last year. Also, there are two possible routes:
1: Lamayuru -> Wanla -> Hinju -> Sumda Chenmo -> Sumda Choon -> Alchi
2: Lamayuru -> Wanla -> Urshi -> Tar -> Mangyu -> Alchi
Which one will be suitable and more scenic?
I plan to travel in the third week of July(July 14onwards) and for now I have no co travellers . Any group which is headed at the same time and I can join ?

My wife and I are planning for a month long stay in Ladakh. We want to explore the place in detail and also want to do some treks.
What would be a good time to travel between mid June and mid sep? We are planning a budget trip since its for over a month. Are there any good accom(long stay) available at a decent price?

I'm going to fly from Delhi to Leh around the 6th of September, 2011 then hopefully travel by land back down South to Manali, Dharmsala etc
I'm looking forward to the Ladakh festival but I'm wondering does the Ladakh festival have any bearing on finding accommodation in Leh and the Ladakh/ region? Is the festival concentrated on one specific region or spread out over the area? How big and well celebrated is it? I'd like to trek and travel in the region until the end of September then travel by road at the beginning of November. Are the roads generally still open at the beginning of October to head South to Dharmsala? Also what temperature weather is there in September? I suppose I can buy any heavy warmer gear in Leh if needs be?
Thanks so much,
