Arriving/Departing out of Fukuoka. Staying only in Kyushu for 19 days. Tentative schedule is 2 nites Fukuoka, 4 nites Nagasaki, 1 nite Unzen, 3 nites Kumamoto, 3 nites Kagoshima, 1 nite Ibusuki, 4 nites Fukuoka. Is it best to just buy the 21-day Universal JR pass, or several 5-day Kyushu passes, or a combination of both? Will there be a need for the Kyushu pass (if some forms of transporation not allowed for Universal pass or vice versa?)
does anyone know what date this festival will be held in September 2014? If too early, does any one know "about" what date in September it normally is held? Weekday? Weekend?
hey everybody, i'm thinking of going to Nagasaki on 23rd May for 2 nights, could anybody recommend any cheap ryokans, hotels, guesthouses etc which are relatively central? thanks for your time?
We will have a JR Pass and will be visiting Kyushu in July.
Does anyone know:
1) How long does it take to travel from Beppu to Kumamoto by JR Line?
2) Good place to stay in Kumamoto?
3) Good place to stay in Kagoshima? One of these could be a Ryokan.
4) How long does it take to travel JR from Kagoshima to Hiroshima?
You input would be greatly appreciated.
What is the bus schedule like to and from Nobeoak and Takachiho Gorge? Is it preferable to stay in Nobeoka or Takachiho? I see that the thing to do is to rent a little boat and go down the river to enjoy the gorge and falls. Can this be done by oneself? I am (female, 42) travelling solo and not sure if they'll let me go in a boat by myself? I intend to be using my camera with grand abandon as I drift down this river, so hopefully it is do-able by oneself...I don't normally drive...!
I would like to go to Kyushu in July, is this a good month? Will there be plenty of rainfall and storms?
hi, i would like your opinion on an efficient itinerary for kyushu. i have 10 days at the end of march and i will land in fukuoka. i would love to do some outdoor activities, and visit a small village with sights, and some temples. although i think i am going to kansai in may so i probably get my temple fill then.
also, i wanted to know if i should limit myself to the north since i only have 10 days or whether i can squeeze in sakurajima too.
also, about logistics. do you recommend getting a rail pass? i've seen it is for consecutive days only so i don't know if that is much help. is the bus system fast and easy to navigate? i'm about to buy a ferry ticket from korea so i was just wondering if it is worth adding one of these rail passes.
lastly: does this show question up in the japan section too?
A friend of mine will be visiting Kyushu for the Chinese New Year this weekend.
He hopes to visit Fukuoka, Mt. Aso and maybe Nagasaki.
Can anyone possibly tell me easiest way to travel between these three, in which order would be best?
will be travelling to japan (kyushu, osaka, kyoto, tokyo) end of april. Would like to find out if these places are generally baby friendly? ie. baby changing table/room or nursing rooms in most toilets, shopping malls etc? Also, are there bidets/ spray hose in every public toilet cubicle which we can wash our child's backside with? thanks!
Does anybody know about RYOKAN or MINSHUKU located in Aso-san with low price.
name and contacts please.

Hi, would like to find out what is the weather/temperature like in April? is it cooling? windy? raining? and whereabouts are good eating and shopping places? pls advise, thanks! :)
I apologize for the multiple postings, but my wife and I will be travelling in Kyushu with our two year old daughter. We have friends in Kumamoto and will be spending the bulk of our time there, but would also like to spend 1-2 nights in another location. Nagasaki and Beppu are the two places which occur to me, but we are open to others. Does anyone else have a good idea, we go for both relaxation and sightseeing.
Does anyone know of a good, medium-priced ryokan in Yufuin, Aso, or Takachiho? Thanks for any help you can give us. Lois and Jack
We want to travel next October through the Aso-Kuju National Park, perhaps staying in Yufuin and Aso, after having been in Hagi, Shikoku. Then we want to go to Takachiho, after which we would like to go to Fukuoka to catch the train to return to Tokyo. We're having difficulty figuring out how to get to each place (Hagi to Yufuin to Aso to Takachiho to Fukuoka) and how long each part of the journey will take, so that we can plan the number of days we'll need for this part of our trip. Can someone help us with this information or steer us onto a website that might help us? Thank you.
what is the best (i.e. cheapest) way to travel to beppu from england?
