We will be there from Feb. 18 - Feb. 28. Online, I have read that there are a number of beaches, areas, etc. We'd like to be on a nice beach, staying at a 5 star hotel, which seem to start about US$200/night. Since we do not intend to have a car, location and convenience to restaurants, shopping, etc. is important. We want to avoid tacky areas. Online, the comments from one person say that beach #1 is the best, then the next person commenting says it is terrible, and so on. How do we figure out the best place to stay?
Hi All, My GF and i are planning a week long trip to Koh Samui in December and were seeking accommodation recommendations. We have a short list based on our budget but would like to consider all of the best recommended options! Cheers Liam

On August 1st I will start an internship at a hotel in Chaweng beach. I would like to rent a small apartment for one year. I will not be earning a lot of money, therefore it should be something affordable. Could anyone recommend any agents which can rent out local apartmets?
On Google I can only find holiday apartments, which are usually more expensive and they don't have a kitchen. It should preferably be at or not far from Chaweng.

Where can we find a Koh Samui local who is a good cook? She/He can accompany us to the market, help buy the food, go back to the villa and show us how to cook it During the day not the evening. Me, wife and 4 year old kid are going to samui for 10 days and bangkok for 4 days on 23.08. How much money will i need per day for food (mid range restaurants

Hello fellow VTers and thank you so much to Samui forum contributors davidjo, ossiecass, jamiesamui, erwinkoo, pfsmalo, popi (greekcypriot) whose answers to FAQs in the forum have been very helpful as I plan this holiday to South Thailand.
I booked a night's bed at Phuket Airport Residence early June. I notice the Airport Shuttle Bus to HKT town starts at 9AM while the Lomprayah Bus to Surat Thani (with connection to Samui on its fast boat) leaves their Phuket town office at 10am.
The best advise i gathered is to just head for Phuket Bus Terminal to have flexibility in travel arrangements.
The last ferry boat to Samui leaves 6-7pm, from what I have gathered in the forum.
Lomprayah quotes THB 1,300 for the HKT-SAMUI transfer, which I believe is not too bad. If HKT town is worth visiting, maybe I should be staying one night at least before heading for Samui? I manage 11 days.
Or maybe I should take advantage of the free bicycles at the Phuket Airport Residence to visit the town and find Lomprayah by bike to book my ticket for the transfer to Samui?
Any travel tips from those who have been there?
Really appreciate VT's service and hope to find friends in this forum too.
I will pay forward the travel tips I get by writing about this experience and contribute

I want to go to Thailand for 1-2 months and I'm looking for a small-medium sized town that is pretty, but not too touristy, or too hot. Also, what would be the cost of a fairly nice rental for 1-2 people? I may be traveling alone as a woman and wondering about safety too.
