I arrive at Gatwick in July at about 9pm. I was going to be staying with a friend in Clapham, so transport was easy. My friend has just sold his house and will have moved to Sevenoaks by July. What is the best way to reach Sevenoaks from Gatwick? Minicab or is there a train?
My husband and I are planning a visit to Kent for several days to tour the lovely gardens in early June. Which would you recommend as "must sees?" What would be a centrally located village or town for us to stay? Would we be able to hire a driver/guide to bring us to the various sites? Is there public transportation from these villages to gardens such as Sissinghurst?
I will be arriving at London Heathrow, 8 July 2011 for the purpose of attending The Open that is being held in Sandwich, Kent and departing from there on 18 July 2011.
I need to know the cost of each and the types of transportation that is available from Heathrow.

Hi to all of you, travel gurus!
First of all a big Thank you to those who replied to my post regarding London /Coaches/Train service to Canterbury.
Now I need somewhere to stay! Could you recommend a reasonnable hotel in Canterbury or would it worth staying in one of the coastal towwms: I have to be close enough to Deal/Walmer/Sandwich or would push to Margate if worth it.Need peace and quiet! Thanks!
What is the different options to travel from Heathrow to Sevenoaks
If i take an overnight hotel in either Gravesend or Rochester Kent is there a good bus service to Ebbsfleet International Eurostar station early morning, Thanks .
I have another question ???
I will be travelling by train from Bromley to Canterbury for a day trip.
Is the train station in Canterbury within walking distance of the town center ?
Also does anyone know if there will be Christmas music in the Cathedral on the 17th-19th Dec.
Look forward to replies.
We are visiting Bromley,Kent in December.
Are there any small hotels or b&b's right in the town ?
All info welcome.
We're planning a trip to England in July (two adults, two teens). Four nights in London and three nights in Warwick. I want to plan a day trip to see Dover Castle and Leeds Castle, but I'm wondering if it's too much to take both castles in all one day? Would it be better to see Dover in one day (and take in the Cliff's) and see Leeds Castle on the way out of London (renting a car in Maidstone)?
I might be over thinking this. I'm just trying to balance out our sightseeing 'must see's' with enjoying the sight's at own pace versus a whirlwind of mega-squeezing things in (which I know my kids would hate). Leaving London, I'm not sure if we should rent a car in Maidstone ( with the thought of going to LeedsC.) or closer to were we'll be staying in Warwick.
Any advice would be great and much appreciated.
I will be in London the first weekend in October and am planning a day trip into
Kent to see Ightham Mote now that it has been renovated by the National Trust.
I am thinking of taking the Autocar 222 bus from Borough Green to Tonbridge,
getting off as close as possible to Ivy Hatch, from where I would walk to
Ightham Mote. The two bus stops that look possible to me are Back Lane at Ivy
Hatch and Plaxtol Church. To judge from the map, Back Lane looks slightly
closer to Ightham Mote by road but which would be the better stop for walking to Ightham Mote, possibly using local paths, or should I choose a different bus? I use public transportation whenever possible. Thank you.
We have a bargain break here next week, so far have booked a day trip to Calais and found some National trust properties to visit. We enjoy walking and being outdoors rather than shopping, any suggestions for must see lpaces or walks would be great. Thanks
I'm looking to stay in Kent, England, over Xmas. I've heard that Let's Stay Kent at have a great range of accomodation and info, but has anyone out there used their site?
We're driving from London (Gatwick airport)to Dover (7am to 7pm), I am thinking to visit Leeds Castle or maybe Dover Castle too. Anything else along the drive we should not miss? Thanks!
I have a couple of days to explore Kent South of London. What would be the must things to see and do?
I am presently living in Canterbury (preston), I will go to France once a month, if you want to share a car on a ferry and the bill, contact me by mail: [email]
Ps: next departure sat 26th May
In April, me and my girlfriend plan to take a short break and go to Kent for 4 days. We will go by car. On the first day, we'll arrive in Dover (ferry) and the place where we'll be staying is in Gillingham.
We don't plan to be in the car too much, please keep that in mind, don't send us 200 miles inland.
We won't go to London on this trip, that'll be dealt with later.
We'd like to see the best that Kent has to offer in these 4 days.
I can do a lot of research myself but we would like some help from people that know the smaller places that aren't so well known but are still worth a visit.
If you have to pay an entrance fee, please mention this, we're on a budget and can't afford £10/person tickets.
If you know good places to eat (cheap ones, remember the budget) in / near Gillingham, let us know.
Thanks in advance!
Hi all, I hope you can shed some light here :) We are going to Kent over the Long Easter weekend... we are not 100% decided where to go but are thinking along the lines of Ashford, Canterbury or Tunbridge Wells. We are wanting a b&b, guesthouse, or a more personal hotel (something more intimate)... with breakfast, a spa/jacuzzi, somewhere that is not in the city, but way out in the country (we just want to relax and read and play games etc.), would like to go on one day trip to see a castle/home (like Chartwell for instance which we loved) relatively close by... We are open to opinions and ideas, just looking for that place with that 'little something special'... Thanks, Jen
Can someone please tell me how to get from London to Sissinghurst Garden? I will be travelling by train or bus. Thanks so much.
Hi, I'm visiting England from 18th December.. Could anyone provide me with any leads for either PG accomodation or cheap BnB's in the following areas : Beckenham, Bromley, Croydon, Catford, Mitcham, Purley, Shortlands Thanks a lot!
For all those of you living in kent/have visited Kent, which areas would you recommend for moving to? I work in Central London so need to get into London easily, yet want to live somewhere more pleasant than my current place (sunny Lewisham!). Which villages/towns would you recommend? I have a car so could in theory drive to a station and get the train. My partner works in Greenwich, London so would have to live somewhere not too far either... Thanks ps do you recommend any Kent-related websites I could try?
Live in South East London. Wanting to have a weekend camping somewhere close by so thought of Kent...would like a place in the countryside, village with oldy worldy pubs, thatched cottages type place - somewhere we can go for lovely walks.... Any ideas? Thanks very much
I am planning a trip to the UK next year and have chosen to stay in Kent for a week. I have been trying to find a nice B&B somewhere in or around Ashford or Tenterden. I have searched the web but still can't find one. I would like to get out of it for about 30 pounds a night. Can anyone advise me on such things as decent pubs, car hire, eating out, things to see etc. I will be travelling solo and coming from Australia so I need to get things organised. Any tips on what to pack etc. Lastly can I catch the Eurostar from Ashford?. Thanks heaps in advance for any help. Louise
I'm planning a visit to Kent in Sept. 2004 and am wondering if anyone has any comments about The Marine Hotel in Tankerton, Kent. (Near Whitstable & Herne Bay). I like small hotels in small towns and the sea so this sounds like a place I should think about but I've not been able to find any comments on it on the web. What do you think?
I'm desperate to know whether it's at all possible to go to Hever Castle & Knole (Sevenoaks) in the same day without spending hours in transit....are there any buses that run between Sevenoaks and any station along the same rail line as Hever? Or would my best bet be catching a cab from Oxted (would this be the closest station to Sevenoaks along the Hver line?), and would a return trip in a cab cost me a fortune?
Hi! Has anyone visited Rumwood or Langley? Could you share your memories or thoughts about that place?
I would like to get some information about how much does food cost in UK? I´ll visit Kent soon and I would like to know beforehand...
