Hi recently photographed a cactus in JTNP. It branches off into different limbs like an ocotillo or cholla but it's "body" colors are purple and green and the coolest part is that it's thorns are multi-colored w/reds and yellows. Its the coolest thing! I live in the area and never noticed this before until I took a super close up picture of it. Can anyone help me identify this?
I'll be hiking alone in the Joshua Tree National Park in December.
Are there any rattlesnakes around this time of year? Is it a real danger for a solo hiker? Where is the nearest facility with anti-venom available?

I've looked at numerous tips this morning about Joshua Tree National Park to get a general overview of the park and it sounds like the west side of the park will be the best area for me to explore in the short time I am there.
Any suggestions of "must see" areas?
