How Long to spend in each place  (3 Answers)

Hello!
I will be travelling solo arriving in Catania on Saturday August 27th and departing from Naples Sunday September 4th.
I am looking to explore islands that have great hiking, great views, and solitude.
Currently, I am planning to spend 2 nights on Vulcano then a night in Salina Island, then take the ferry to Naples to catch the ferry to Ischia for 3 nights, then take the ferry to Ponza Friday morning and stay friday night and saturday night then take the ferry direct to naples for departure.

Is this too much travel?
Am I best to;

A)spend 2 more nights in Aeolian Islands and only two nights on ischia? (en route to ponza)

B) Skip Ponza, and just spend 4 nights in Aeolian and 4 nights on Ischia?

As a solo traveler in Ischia whose goal is hiking, nature, beaches, would it be best to stay right in town near Port or is there a quiet town suggested with good access to the mountains and forests?

So many options!!!
Thanks!

Excursions

Travelling to Ischia end of May. I would like to do some excursions to the surrounding areas (Amalfi, Sorrento, Capri, etc.) Are there tour operators at the port who offer such excursions that you don`t have to book ahead of time? I have looked at Ischia Review but I'm not sure if I want to tie myself down to a schedule before I go. Has anyone used Ischia Review? Has anyone done any of he winery tours in Ischia? or their cooking classes?

Thanks.

Transfer Service?  (10 Answers)

Travelling to Ischia from Toronto at the end of May. I will go going solo. Debating on whether to book a transfer service (though it's hard to find someone who will take a solo passenger) or just do it myself. Is it relatively simple to find the bus/hydrofoil to the island and then bus to my hotel in Ischia (Hotel Gemma)? Is it likely to be crowded at this time of year? (May 20th - May 29th)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I plan to spend 7 days on lovely Ischia in September. Traveling there with my mum of 60 years. There is a choice of booking similar hotels in either Forio or Lacco Ameno. We will not be driving, only taxi and public transport. Which location would be better please?
Thanks in advance.

Searching for a specifik hotel in Ischia!! Please help me!  (4 Answers)

I'm searching for a hotel in the Ischia and I would really appreciate if you could help me find it.

It's a 4 star hotel/resort when it's full there can be around 400-500 guests at least.

The hotel is u-shaped and has bungalows in front of the main building, on the other side of a parking space,

I think it's quite a big complex, when guests are going to stay in one of the bungalows one of the staff will take you to your room in something similar to a golf car.

It has 5 floors

It has a spa with emotional showers and jacuzzi baths/thermal baths,

The hotel has two restaurants for the customers and two bars, one pool bar and one bar inside.

The hotel is open right now but it is closing this week for 3,5 weeks for maintenance.

Outisde of the hotel, very close, there is another restaurant that is not with the hotel but many hotel guests go there, it's like a disco bar restaurant/pizzera where people can both eat, drink and dance.

The hotel has bed and breakfast, half board and full board.

When guests arrive late in the evening and they have booked HB or FB, they get a cold dinner plate served for them.

The hotel has glass doors in the entrance and the floor is blue and beige tiles, the reception desk is white,

The reception area/lobby have a beautiful ceiling and arched roof between the rooms.

It's a family run hotel and the owners are old over 60 or 70 years old and they still work there.

It has 24 hours reception service.

How long should I spend in Ischia?

Hi, I'm visiting Sorrento and want to spend some time in Ischia, but not sure how long to spend there.

I know it's much bigger than Capri which I believe can be seen in a day or so, so I'm not sure how long I would need. I have a friend who visited Ischia just for a day and said that they only had time to see the port town and so didn't do justice to the island.

What towns/villages should I definitely visit, which should I not bother with (using public transport)?

How many nights should I stay? 1 night, 2 nights?

Where is the best place to be based? we want somewhere that is fairly busy at night, ie, lots of restaurants etc rather than somewhere that is more remote and quiet.

Hope someone can maybe help with this.

Thanks

Sophie

Ischia Beach and Transportation  (1 Answer)

My fiance and I will be taking a cruise through the Mediterrean as part of honeymoon this October.

Two questions:
1. What is the best beach for laying out/swimming and enjoying the thermal springs?
2. If we're traveling from the main port on Ischia would renting a moped or taking a water taxi be a viable option for transportation to the beach/springs?

Thanks!

Has anyone been to Ischia before? (Places to go to and so on)  (5 Answers)

What are the places you would suggest going to on Ischia island, we're going there in early September and we wanna write down a few places to go to, if you have been to Ischia and know some beautiful places, please suggest them...
And I mean places to go to not Hotels or places to stay in...
like "beautiful cliffs, seaside places" and so on...
We want to see the nature in there, and maybe the castles, churches ...
and maybe some really cool museums ( in that case the adresses and the exact names of these museums)

questions about Ischia in January  (1 Answer)

We want to visit Ischia for the first time this winter January 2-6 with our 19 year old daughter. Should we take our rental car over from Naples on the boat, or should we get one on the island instead?
We know it will be quiet since it is cold, but we love thermal hot springs and it is the only time we can go. The side by Forio looks very nice so are considering Royal Palm Hotel or something in that area since we will have a car to go into porto Ischia if we get bored. Or should we stay in town so our daughter has more to do? Any other recommendations welcomed! Our favorite hot springs so far are in Oregon and California, USA.

Best Way to Forio  (1 Answer)

I'd like to take a morning boat directly to Forio - it seems I need to take one from Molo Beverello at 10:25 AM? I'm not sure if it's a hydrofoil or a
ferry, but it seems better to go directly to Forio than to Ischia Port. I've been told it's better to stay near Mergellina port than Beverello, but I don't think there's a good schedule to Forio from there.

Does anybody have any hotel or ferry suggestions to share? I leave for Europe in one week!

Holidaying alone in Ischia  (5 Answers)

Hi guys,

I'm Carole, 36, and I'm thinking of booking a week in Ischia in July/August 07 in order to relax after attending a wedding in Madrid, Spain and after sightseeing around Italy.
I'll be going alone to Ischia. Never been to Italy before and I don't speak Italian. Well, I'm half Spanish/half French so I'm not too bothered about the language bareer (Italian is pretty similar to Spanish & French) but is there any risk of being hassled there as I'll be out and about on my own?
Thanks for advising

Carole
