Money

Now I know that loads of people have already posted about changing money in Prague and all the scams and everything but I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a reason to not change money into czk before going there? I have found an exchange place near where I live in the UK that can change roughly £500 into 13500czk but I was wondering if I am missing something?

It's just that everyone suggests to get the money when we get there and get it from the ATMs (that part I can understand though considering how much people have been scammed by getting it from exchange places or people on the street)

Thanks

Chrissie

Best way to find a apartment for 3-5 days???

What is the best way to find a place to stay for three to five days, preferably an apartment? I have looked on craigslist.com, only to find the same two or three places. I have been to Praha before and recall a place in the main train station that was able to set me up with renters. We are traveling by auto in the fall. Any advice would be helpful. Thanx.

Chris

New Year's in Praha  (1 Answer)

Hi guys,

I know i'm a little bit early, but i like to be well prepared when travelling. I'm planning to take my gf on a trip around next New Year's for about a week to a European city (this is something we do almost every year) and we were seriously considering Prague and the surrounding sites.

I have been to Prague a couple of times, but only in summer. So what i'm trying to find out is whether everything is open in winter (like the castle and other things)? What is the best place to stay? How is New Year's eve celebrated in Praha (do people gather at Wenceslas Square with fireworks and stuff). What other sites in the neighborhoud (say about less than 100 km from Prague) are worth a visit in winter time? Is it possible to go on a 1 or 2 day skiing trip from Prague?

Oh well, you can see i have a lot of questions, so any information would be highly appreciated.
And if someone has another alternative for our trip (we already did Barcelona, Venice, London and Paris), just shoot (use blanks though as i'm not ready to die yet).

Many thanks,

Bart.

about Prague

Please let me know which of these addresses is more let's say "cosmopolit" or "nice" Černošice, Radotínská or Konzumní in Prague. We intend to spend a few days including Christmas there and I'd like to know which of them is closer to facilities (entertainment, shopping...)

Thanks,

Another question about good restaurants in Prague.  (3 Answers)

I am going to Prague in just a few days. I will be staying in Nove Mesto (new Town) right next to Wenceslas square, or as they call it Karlovo namesti.

Can someone recommend some really good restaurants with local Czech/Austrian food in Stare Mesto (the historical center) and in the Wenceslas square area?

I am not looking for cheap/budget restaurant. I would prefer not to take a tram to get there, as I have limited time. I really want to try the best local food.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Cost of the hotel in Prague  (1 Answer)

Today I have met another person who said "Why is it so expensive?" about hotel prices in Prague.
Could anyone explain me if I miss something?
For example in Poland quite good hotel can cost 30-40 euro/night. And in Prague I didn't find anything similar for less than EUR 100.
Are there any good hotels in Prague at 30-50 euro/hight?

ATM Widthdraw limits  (1 Answer)

Hello,

I read a lot about ATM and exchanging money but I really need to know what are the limits for widthdrawing and found nothing about that.

I need to know what's the daily and per widthdrawing money limits. In my country there is a established limit, so if you loose your card to someone else, it can't hurt you too much. Is there a limit in Czech Republic too?

Same question for the National Theatre.

Prague to Olomouc and Ruzomberok  (4 Answers)

I am planning to go from Prague to Olomouc and from there to Ruzomberok (Slovakia).
Does anybody know how long does it take to go by train from Prague to Olomouc? And by car?
Is it possible to go from Olomouc to Ruzomberok by train or bus? How long does it take? And by car?
If the trips do not take very long, I intended to do it in one day (trip from Prague + visit to Olomouc + trip to sleep in Ruzomberok). Is it a good idea or is it worth to have a longer visit to Olomouc and sleep there?
Thank you.

Absinthe still needed!

I desperately want to get a bottle of absinthe for a present (it will make someone very happy!), but it's hard to find in the UK and very expensive (and I'm a very broke student). If anybody is going the Czech Republic and is willing to bring me back a bottle of absinthe, I'd be eternally grateful and would obviously pay them back. My dad was meant to be going on a business trip but that's been postponed indefinitely :( I live in Glasgow, Scotland but if anyone around London is going, I have family there who could get it up to me. Other areas will be considered too, just drop me a line at [email]. Many thanks and happy holidays, Isla
