We have just one day in Hamburg. What would be the single best place to see?
If the weather is good, I'd suggest a boat tour of the harbor.
Yes, it depends on the weather.
On a sunny day, go to the Alster, the lake in the middle of Hamburg. Walk around it (about 7 km around the outer Alster). Or if you like, rent a boat (canoe, rowing boat) and take a trip through the Alster canals, enjoying such places as Feenteich, Rondeel or Stadtparksee.
Or take a walk along the Elbe river; downtown perhaps from Baumwall to Altona or Neumühlen. Or if you love to see some specially nice sites, walk along the Elbe in Blankenese.
If the weather is not so nice, you can go by public transport. Go by ship through the harbor, or take some busses from one end to the other and around.
And of course, there also are lots of different museums ...
Hamburg has many different sights and things to offer...
You will have to come back ;-) !
For some people the Reeperbahn is the best place to go, for others it is the Eisenbahnwunderland or the museum of prototype-cars !
When you try to read your question again and take in considderation that nobody here knows anything about you and your interests, your questions sounds to us like :
"My fridge is full of delicious things, BUT who can tell me WHAT to eat tonight !?"
I would suggest to visit the Harbor and surroundings. There is quite a bit to do, like doing a harbor cruise or a cruise through the canals in the warehouse district, you can walk up to the Michel (Parish Church St. Michael - the land mark of Hamburg), visit the Krameramtstuben next to the Michel, have some lovely food in that area and and and.....
Thank you for all your great suggestions!
