Stop to Mt Fuji on the way from Tokyo to Osaka  (1 Answer)

Hi everyone,
I am planning to spend most of my time in Japan (early September) in Tokyo and Osaka and then do day trips from the two cities.
In the case of Mt. Fuji , I am only interested at seeing it and taking some photograph. Now considering that this might not happen due to the weather, I would not like to take a day only to find out that the nice Volcano is behind clouds.
I would like then to try my luck only on my way from Tokyo to Osaka and stop somewhere where the Mountain could visible.
What would be the best route I should take by train and where should I stop for a few hours ?
Thanks ,
Ross

Hakone Onsen & Accommodation  (1 Answer)

Dear all,
I will be visiting Japan in October for 14 days, and I would like to spend one night in Hakone (arriving early Tuesday, leaving Wednesday midday to Kioto)
I read there is plenty to visit and see, however, my main goal is to experience a nice outdoor onsen where I can relax and enjoy beautiful views. Then I can run around and visit Gora and the Hakone Open Air Museum for example.
Could you recommend a nice (affordable) outdoors onsen?
Considering that I will arrive in Hakone Yumoto, should I look for accommodation in that area? If so, can you recommend?
Is it easy to move around from this area?
Sorry for all the questions, I have been seating behind the computers for few hours and am more confused than when started!
Thank you very much in advance!
Regards,
Luna

Help on getting to Hakone and around from Narita (Feb 7 -11)  (3 Answers)

Please advise.

Until 2 hours ago, I had never heard of Hakone. Now I'm seriously thinking of going with my 4 year old. We'll arrive at Narita on Feb 7th (Sunday) at 3:25pm.

Getting to Hakone from Narita: take the train to Tokyo station, then to Shinjuku station. At Shinjuku station, purchase the "Hakone Freepass", which includes (for an extra fee that can be paid at the same time?) Odakuyu Romancecar to Hakone-Yumoto station).

I plan on getting the 3 day pass, which also takes care of all transportation in Hakone and the ride back to Shinjuku.

I'd appreciate any knowledgeable advice or tips. I saw something that the Odakuyu Romance car requires an advance online reservation?

Will we be able to make it to Hakone -- i.e. does all transport operation normally on Sunday?

Tour of Hakone despite volcanic activity reported  (2 Answers)

Since there was a volcanic activity detected sometime in May of this year in the Hakone area, I would like to ask if it is safe to take a two-day tour of the Hakone area, which includes the Hakone Ropeway, Lake Ashi tour, and an overnight stay in a hotel resort with hot spring on November 28, 2015. There was an available tour that we can avail of but I am hesitant to book for that tour because of the warning message to tourists that I read recently.

Hakone Yumoto to Miyanoshita

On my final day in Hakone I plan to c/out from my ryokan (Hoeiso) and travel from Hakone Yumoto to lunch at Iroriya which is near Sokokura. I read that I should take the "Hakone-machi line" bus from Hakone Yumoto Station (Bus H), to "Sokokura". Then walk for 5 minutes. Map of bus stop only shows "Kami-Sokokura" though..
Is it the same stop?
Iroriya: Local name いろり家. Local address 〒250-0404宮ノ下296

This bus from Hakone Yumoto passes Miyanoshita Station. Would it be faster to grab the train from Hakone-Yumoto Station to Miyanoshita Station then the bus rather than sit on the bus all the way from Hakone-Yumoto Station?

Tq, Mel

Hakone Tozan Bus "K" from Moto Hakone-ko to Kuzuhara  (2 Answers)

I will be doing the Hakone Loop from Gora to Owakidani, Lake Ashi, Motohakone then to Hoeiso Ryokan near Hakone Yumoto. This will be on the 30th of October (Friday). I read that the Hakone Tozan Bus "K" passes the ryokan (Bus stop - Kuzuhara) on its way from Moto Hakone-ko to Hakone Yumoto.

1. Would anyone be able to provide the time-table for Line "K" from Moto Hakone'ko to Kuzuhara please?
2. Would you know how long will this journey between Moto Hakone-ko to Kuzuhara takes?

I read that there is an express bus Line "R" which even though doesnt't pass Kuzuhara on its way to Hakone Yomoto, but being express, will be fast. However, this only operates on weekends and holidays?

Tq, Mel

Which Pass  (1 Answer)

We are stopping for one night in Hakone to do the loop on the cable cars, lake, etc. We have our JP rail pass and are staying in Hakone at the Fujiya Hotel. So, we arrive about noon, spend some time in Hakone, next day do the loop, and then go back to Tokyo using our JP pass. Which of the passes is best for us, the Hakone free pass or the Fuji/Hakone pass? I thought I knew, but all the comments now have me confused. I do believe I purchase it there at the train station, right?

Is one day sufficient or should we spend a night in Hakone?  (3 Answers)

I plan to travel in June and will be visiting Hakone area from Tokyo. I will buy the Hakone pass which is valid for 2 days as I believe there is no single day pass. How much time would it take to do the roundtrip of all the activities from Shinjuku station and return to the same station? As per the website the recommended route is Shinjuku-Tozan train-cable car-ropeway-cruise-bus-Tozan train-Shinjuku.

JR Pass and Fuji/Hakone Pass  (2 Answers)

Hi, I would like to know whether it is worthwhile to buy Fuji/Hakone 3 days Pass from Shinjuku when I already bought a JR Pass. Or would it be more worthwhile buying the Hakone Free Pass?

I shall be in Tokyo on 25th Oct, planning to stay 1 night in Kawaguchiko, then another night in Hakone before heading back to Shinjuku.

Hakone Freepass  (12 Answers)

Am I the only sucker who fell for the 'Hakone Free Pass' and felt taken for a ride when my 3day 'free pass' ticket was swallowed by the exit machine at Sinjuku Station,, to my disbelief?? Coz I thot I had bought a 3day pass that would allow me to go back to Hakone tomorrow (the third day) since I had to go to the CA Embassy in Tokyo today!

The lady did protest to the station official, just to be told that the 2-3day passes are meant tof 2-3 day stays in Hakone! And only entitled me to go from Shinjuku to Odawara once! So, when I came back yesterday I've used that trip and my next 2days' 'free pass' went down the drain!

They even showed me an English translation to demonstrate they were right! But I was never told this by the Tourist Information lady at NRT! Anyone else fell for the same trick? Or was I the only fool? :(

hakone free pass vs Fuji hakone pass  (4 Answers)

Hi fellow VTs,

Have anyone used these 2 passes in Hakone before? What's the difference & which is better?

I would also be travelling from tokyo to hakone, & then to hamamatsu to visit my friend. So I will only need 1 way transportation from Tokyo to Hakone.

Does anyone know whether it will be worthwhile to buy the pass?

Can't decide which Royakan to stay?  (1 Answer)

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone stayed at any of these Ryokans before? I can't make up my mind between these two. This one seems to have a better access for doing Hakone circle.

This one looks like a real traditional Japanese style but someone from tripadvisor said that the food is a bit sweet and the rooms are dated.

Hi,

Does anyone know the traveling time and how to get from Hakone to Kyoto? I will have a JR pass. Is it worth while getting a Hakone free pass when you already have a JR pass? Where can you buy a Hakone pass when staying in Shibuya or Ginza area?

Thank you

Hakone Hotel Kowakien or Yumoto Fujiya Hotel?  (4 Answers)

I am arranging a 2-day package trip through JTB Sunrise agency and trying to decide between the Hakone Hotel Kowakien ($263) and Yumoto Fujiya Hotel ($408). The latter is more expensive since dinner and breakfast is included.

Both hotels offer onsen, but I am not sure which one to stay at. Your comments and guidance would be much appreciated. Food, location, quality are all considerations.

Where to stay in Hakone?  (10 Answers)

My husband and I will spend a night in Hakone on April 7 - I know it's late to be looking, so this why I'm having trouble booking a room
Here are the options I have found so far:
Matsuzakaya Honten

32,220yen total
Japanese style room ( Equipped with Hot Spa.Bath & Toilet)
TENSEIEN

33600 yen
MAIN BUILDING JAPANESE STYLE ROOM (WITH FULL BATHROOM)
Hotel Senkei

27,600 yen
Japanese style room with bath (onsen?)
Hakone Sansui

12,540*2
does not look like it has hot spring bath in room, but nice looking outdoor one available for private charter
Kinokuniya

13,500*2?
has a lot of history
Hakone Elegance

No Japanese style room, but close to lake - good location?
price - unsure - 8,650*2? probably without meals
Fujiya127 special
Fuji Hakone Guest House

11850 yen, meals not included
I'm really confused as to which location is most advantageous and which is the best value
any advice/experiences appreciated
Thanks in advance!

B&B Pansion Hakone  (6 Answers)

Hi, I have a few questions with regards to this hotel and its accessibility. How do I get there from Shinjuku Station (assuming I'll take the Odakyu Railway)? How do I get to the main natural attractions from the hotel (eg. ropeway, sightseeing ship, etc.)? Does the hotel provide soap, shampoo, towels, toothpaste, toothbrush? Are the hotel's onsen located on the premises or do I need to go to Yunnesan for hot springs? Thanks.
