I've been offered a teaching position in Yizhou, Guangxi province from September for 5 months. I'm concerned about the heat and humidity and possible air pollution. Would this be a problem?
In 2013, a VT member said: There is direct bus to Detian Waterfall at Long Dong Bus Station. You can take the 8:30 bus (bus fare:48rmb) and arrive at Detian Water at 13:00. The ticket to enter the waterfall area is 80rmb.
My question is, is the bus service running now in 2014 and is the travel time correct?
I need to get from HK to Guangzhou and back. I think I'd like to train it - how is the train service? What is the quality of the train? Are there categories like first class, second class etc. Are people allowed to smoke on the train? I cant be near smoke. Is it safe for a foreign female?
Thanks for any help.
I am looking to get from Yangshuo to Huangyao, and then from Huangyao to Longsheng. What are my travel options?
I have seen some references of a bus connecting Yangshuo and Huangyao - seems to be new, there isn't much info in English about it. Anyone know the schedule/location/etc?
To get to Longsheng, could I bus from Huangyao to Guilin and from there to Longsheng? Is there another option? How much would a cab run? Can you even get a cab in Huangyao?! I don't mind spending some money if it will save a lot of time.
Also, I am trying to figure out how to get from Dazhai to the Guilin airport. I know I can do it by connecting a few buses, but I was thinking of trying to do it faster. How much for a cab to the airport? Possible to arrange from Dazhai?
I am trying to avoid any "tours" because I don't like being forced to stay on a certain path, but if anyone has recommendations on a local who could help arrange this, that would be great as well. Any help would be much appreciated - I will be in Guilin in 6 days! Thanks!

I'm going to travel trough Asia in January and my first stop will be in Guilin and Yichang. The places I want to visit in Guilin are…
… Elephant Hill
… the cave in the 7 Star Park and/or the Red Flute Cave
… the Mall in the underground
… Cormorant Fishing
… Ethnic Folk Park
I one day enough to visit these places, I will arrive in Guilin at 10.30 by train.
On the next day I want to Yangshou by boat (Li River Tour)
There I want to visit…
…the Moon Hill (rent a bike a reach the hill nearly before sunset in order to enjoy the sunset from the peak)
Afterwards I will go back to Guilin train station to take the train to Wuhan and from there to Yichang by bus.
You think that is it possible as I want it or should I change something.

I'm planning a trip to Longsheng and Yangshuo in mid-September but will only have 4 days in total. I have a few questions and hope that you can help me out.
Here below is roughly how I plan the trip :
1st day : Early morning leave Guilin for Longsheng. Stay overnight.
2nd day : Longsheng. late afternoon : going back to Guilin (stay for the night)
3rd day : Boat from Guilin to Yangshuo
4rth day : Leave Yangshuo at noon for Guilin
My questions are :
1. Are 1,5 days in Longsheng too short ? I would like to walk around in the rice terraces and visit at least one local minority village.
2.How much time do we need to get to the rice terraces from Longsheng ?
3. Anyone can recommend a hostel / hotel in Longsheng ?
4. Would it be helpful to hire a local guide to take us around in Yangshuo ? Actually I plan to bike around and was wondering if it would really be added value to have a guide with us.
All your comments / suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance for all your input.
Any suggestion on where I should go to visit? Who's going there? Hehe~ I'm just doing that alone~
We are planning to travel to the guilin/yangshou area in the second half of november. Maybe anybody can help us with some questions:
- is is a good time at all to travel there or is it already too late in the year?
- is it worth going especially to the rice terraces of longsheng at this time or is it just 'grey in grey' ?
- how about private cars or taxis for a day (e.g. from guilin to longsheng or from yangshou to longsheng? how much is it approximately ? how long does it take?
- if one is not very sporty, is it recommendable to rent bikes in yangshoe to see the real interesting places or is there an alternative to bikes?
thanks for your help
robert and elisabeth
I will join a tour to Guilin from Shenzhen, just wonder how about the weather in Guilin and Yangshuo, is it rain a lot ?
Thanks in advance
I will be visiting Guilin with my family this spring. I’m planning to hire a guide for 1 day and am trying to come up with a cost effective method of transportation (since there will be 6 pax, our family plus tour guide and driver). Is it possible to do a walking tour of Guilin with our guide? If we have to hire a car, where can we go around Guilin (not as far as Yangshuo) to make the best use of our day’s rented car?
My mom (in her 60s)want to see these two places and i would like to accompany her if we can go by ourselves(in fact, i prefer backpacking than joining tour). Any suggestion in accomondation and transport ? i feel a bit worry as i did not travel with her for many years and she is not as healthy as i believed.

Hi! I am around 80% certain of going to Guilin and Yangshuo over the 4-day Easter break holiday. I'd like to know of the must buy souvenirs and must tries of local foods. Thanks.
Alright guys, I'm currently in a coffee shop off Nathan Rd in Hong Kong. I'm planning on heading up to Guilin/Yangshuo in the next few days and wondered if anyone had any advice on how to get there/where to stop on the way and that kind of thing. I believe I can get a train to Guangzhou easy enough, but not sure that it's worth visiting. There's a boat to Zhaoqing which sounds nice enough, but again I'm not sure how long that would take or if it's nice enough. Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Paul.
