Is it possible to hire a guide and go climbing Mount Margaritha from Goma. How far away and is it possible to hire a truck or go by bus. I have previously climber Kilimanjaro and now like to climb Ruwenzori. Are there any difficulties when crossing the border to Uganda or shall one stay in Congo?
Thank You, Torgil Abrahamsson, Stockholm, SWEDEN (firstname.lastname@example.org)
At the moment (October 2011) you can fly to Beni from Goma. From Beni Virunga National Park can arrange transport to the start of the trek.
Prices are as follows:
200$ permit (for whole trip)
10$ per day for shelters
15$ per night spent at the Mutsora station (night before trip and possibly night after trip)
10$ per porter per day, to be paid directly to porters
No food or water included in price, so you need to bring that yourself.
You can do a 4-6 day hike depending on your what you prefer.
You can walk up to the glacier, however glacier climbs are not yet available so it is not possibe to reach the summit for the moment.
