I used to drive Route 17 from Norfolk to Baltimore, and one of the communities along the way was Gloucester Courthouse. At that time (early 60s), the highway divided and went around the courthouse square which was surrounded by a brick wall. It was very picturesque. Automobiles frequently crashed into the wall and knocked it down, so I think they re-routed the road. Now when I look on VT, I can find Gloucester and Gloucester Point, but I can find no reference to Gloucester Courthouse. Does anyone know if Gloucester and Gloucester Courthouse are the same? The Gloucester Courthouse website says that it is about 10 miles from Gloucester Point.
