from Vigo toGalicia, how do I get there?
Hola a todos. I will be visiting Santiago de Compostela and I've got time to see another city during my trip. Would you recommend A Coruna or Vigo? Gracias.
Having walked this route - Valença/Tui, Porriño, Redondela, Pontevedra,Caldas de Reis, Padrón, Santiago - three times I've been writing a novel where some of the key characters end up on this journey. I'm redoing the walk from September 9 to 16 in order to fill in some authentic detail without relying on my memory. If there are any VT members along that route with time to have a coffee I'd really love to chat to see if you have any local knowledge that could enrich my story... I'm especially concerned about some characters who are from Santiago. I'm afraid that I'll make a silly mistake that will make them seem unauthentic so I'd love to run my ideas by someone from Santiago to see if it sounds realistic. Thanks! Dec
I would like to know what is the best season to eat PERCEBE AND which restaurants are the best known for eating them?
Another question! We are planning to rent a car in santiago to travel west and south. We can't seem to get a clear understanding of how much the repatriacian fee is if we return the car in porto portugal. Ex. Checking eurocar website no clear amount indicated. Is it a significant fee - more than the cost to rent the car? Are we better off returning the car in a city in spain close to porto - vigo ? - and taking a bus to portugal.
Would anybody have a restaurant recommendation, fish of course ??
I will be arriving in Santiago Saturday the 31st of May from Ireland. I am a massive sports fan. There is a big boxing match on skysports Saturday night. I have been trying to search for Irish/English bars that might show sports but have found very little. I would also travel to somewhere else in Galicia if required.
All Help greatly appreciated for a desperate sports fanatic.
Hello all, My husband and I are visiting Galicia for the first time in early July. We arrive in Santiago from Dublin and will stay there one night. We will leave from Porto 5 days later and will spend our last night there. Unfortunately we don't have that much time. We will be renting a car and hope to make the most of our travels without rushing. We look forward to enjoying some time on the coast and prefer small towns to a bigger city such as Vigo. The town of Combados was suggested and wineries in that are- Fefinanes. We look forward to experiencing the people, the culture, the wine and wonderful food. Please advise where you may recommend to stay for the 3 middle nights and any other suggestions are welcome as well.
Can I catch a local bus or local train on Friday 27 Sept from Tui to Redondela or Arcade?
I have to plan my 5 days in Galicia. I start my trip from Santiago. Can someone tell me to best place ti visit in the north coast of Galicia? I'm interested in naturalistic places...ocean and best beaches...Thanks
Hi, I´m planning to visit Galicia and Ireland, maybe also north Portugal.
Any advise will be greatly appreciate (what to see, where to sleep, rent a car) and specially cheapest transfers between both.
Thanks in advance!
We are planning eight days in Galicia in August. We will fly to Santiago and then rent a car. Last year (part 1) we travelled along the Rias Bajas and Costa de la Muerte. Now we intend to go to the north: Betanzos, Pontedeume, Ortigueira, Viveiro, Ribadeo… perhaps also west of Asturias.
Any place we shouldn’t miss along this route? Recommendations on hotels and restaurants in those places?
For the way back to Santiago, one idea is crossing Sierra de Meira and Os Ancares, then Lugo, but this part is still “under study”. Suggestions are welcome.
Is the interior of Lugo too hot in this period? Last year the weather was very good, we were fresh whereas at home temperatures were over 40ºC, but we were all the time near the coast.
Thanks in advance,
looking for a local travel guide to explore galicia area in September
I've been in Pontevedra and was happy with previous hotel accommodations. This summer I'm considering to visit again but to stay in Camping Bayona Playa, and rent one of their cottages. Any feedback on the facilities of this camping park? Or any other tips or comments on this place?
Hi everybody, I am planning to make a car tour in Portugal next July and to make a detour in Galicia. How many days do I need to visit Galicia? Which places do you suggest to visit and to avoid?
I'm planning to do El Camino in 2010. As of right now it looks like I'll be doing the English route: Ferrol - Santiago.
I'm flying in from the US, presumably arriving in Madrid. How do I get from there to Ferrol?
We are planning a week in Galicia in July. I'd like to plan a route near the coast. As we will rent a car at the airport of Santiago, we don't need to stay at the same place every night. Any advices or suggestions? Thanks ;)
I understand there is a bagpipe festival in mid October in Mondonedo (with an ~). Is that true? Can anyone give me some details? Actual date? This festival is supposed to be an annual event with bagpipers from Asturias and Galicia.
Any help greatly appreciated!
On the road from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela, is taxi service immediately available? That is, in case our elderly aunt finds it difficult to finish the walk, say from Sarria to Portomarin, can she hail a taxi along the road? Or do we need to call a taxi company to meet her at a certain point?
Are the taxis metered or fixed/contracted? For metered taxi, how much is the flag down and the increment? Or if contracted, what is the average price for about 20km distance?
Alternatively, are buses available?
How come we have at least 5 questions on Valencia here on just the 1st page on the Galicia forum ? Using the "seach" destinations tab there is no Valencia in Galicia, so a glitch ?
Anybody knows a cheap place in Coruna just for two or three nights? It'd be a shared room, flat...but a place where people speak spanish!
Hello. I will be in Vigo for several hours and am interested in booking a sailing trip. I've tried all the search engines and can't find any information on small charter companies. Can anyone recommend a small sailing boat for a 3-4 hour trip? Thanks!
We are planning to visit the Galicia Region sometime and would like to know about worthwhile fishing villages and seafood towns there. We love seafood and we are somewhat epicureans in that manner. Thank you for any recommendations, such as good seafood restaurants in every town.
Wondering whether to drive along Mino River on Spanish or Portuguese side. Which is the most attractive route to follow? Staying in Valenca overnight and have to be just north of Ourense by the evening and wonder if we have time to fit in a look at the area near Ribas de Sil as well. Grateful for any help.
We're finally narrowing down slightly on our trip to Gslicia, and will be concentrating on the east coast, Pontevedra and Santiago.
Does anyone know any live music bars which we could approach for a gig in mid September? Hubby does a one man show but with music from mainly 70's, lot of rock, funk, soul, with sax and harmonica. He's very popular down this end of the woods and is fully booked for the time we are here.
Any ideas gratefully received
We (my wife and I and our 8&12 yrs. old kids) want to visit Spain and Portugal. We will arrive and leave through Madrid airport. We will have 11 days to spend outside Madrid (we will have a rented car). We wish to spend around 4-5 days in Galicia. When we travel we like almost everything: cities and architecture, museums, villages, and, local people. This time we will be happy to visit the beach once or twice maybe..Could someone kindly offer me a suitable plan for Galicia? Best case will be, if possible, to stay in one place (best option some place with a pool..) and travel day trips around.
Thank a lot in advance !
Me again. Now I am thinking of making her a surprise...taking her to a special restaurant and maybe discotheque!!!!!
Any idea for special places?????
Me and my girlfriend, we want to spend a few days in Serra da Capelada, enjoying the scenery and staying in a rural tourism or even hotel/hosta/pension/with great view (we are in love heheheh...). It can be near the sea or in the mountains. The price is not so important, although, of course, bargains are always welcome.
If not in Capelada, maybe there is another part of North Galicia you can propose.
Also welcome ideas for off the road places to stay or see in Santiago or Coruna or Lugo regions (places where we also want to stay).
Thanks a lot!!!!!!
I am planning to spend 7 or 8 days in Galicia.
The only hotels I have booked are in Lugo the first day and in Vigo the 6th day.
Lugo, Betanzos, A Coruña, Santiago, Villagarcia de Arousa, Pontevedra, Vigo and Islas Cíes, Tuy/Valença do Mihno, Ribadavia, Monforte de Lemos (and from there back to Barcelona by train).
Taking into account that I have no car and would use trains or buses and that I don't want to be stressed, I'm sure should drop some places.
Which places can be dropped? Maybe Villagarcia and Monforte?
Would you recommend any other places instead of those from my list?
Can anyone recommend a book to learn Galician? Last time I was in Galicia I searched for one high and low at different shops but they were only for children at school.
I am not looking for a grammar but a method to learn Galician myself.
Apart from my native languages Catalan and Spanish, I speak Portuguese, so if the book is entirely written in Galician it is OK, I can understand nearly everything.
Anyone can ask a
