Hi we are planning a 4-5 day trip down the keys hoping to stay 2 nights in key largo, not sure where to stay in the middle then maybe 2 nights in key west. I've been looking on a few hotel sites but am not sure whether to wait and book into places when we get there. Is it cheaper to just turn up at a motel or am I better to book early. We are a family of 3 and my daughter will be 15. Also any suggests as to where to stay in the middle of the keys. And any reasonable hotel/motel, ive been looking and it seems some of the not so desirable motels are around £150 a night which I think is a little steep. Any advise would be grateful.
We are staying in Key Largo this Christmas and looking for the best snorkeling from the beach/without a tour. Any ideas? Also, what is the water temp. like in December? Would we want wet suits?
Thanks in advance!
I am planning a visit to the Keys soon and was wondering if there are any good/safe spots to do some bridge jumping from? I was told by a friend about the Sugarloaf Key 'Jumping Bridge' location which looks like a great spot, is anyone aware of similar locations, perhaps parts of the old 7-mile bridge?
I've been doing my research for the trip to the keys and just came across an article that all beaches in the keys are topless. Please tell me that isn't correct. Not at all looking for anything like that as I have two small boys. Any info? Thank you.
A little info.... Trip for end of June to first week of July. Two children (6 & 7), two adults, we love the beach especially if there are palms going over the water and clean clear water with small to no waves, not crazy about crowds at all and trying to keep the budget as small as possible. Never been around the area at all f so and advice/info is appreciated. Thanks in advance and blessings.
We are looking at Florida for a vacation but the men would like golfing opportunities while the ladies would like to golf some and enjoy the beaches as well. Golfers are good but not professional, so golf courses should be affordable. Any suggestions?
We will be in the Keys for 3 days and plan on diving as much as possible at different locations. Any recommendations on where to stay that is centrally located so we can get some good diving in?
I will be motorcycling to Key west Florida in Late March or April of 2015. I have been checking some hotels and they are awful expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions on were to stay for a night or 2 in the Florida Keys?
what holidays have the most traffic
Plan to snorkel with the wife, not deep sea or anything just around our resort and at other locations.. Is there anywhere you highly recommend we snorkel at that we can just go from the land w/o boat. Also I am looking on Amazon at snorkel sets, is it best to just buy from on there and take with or buy once in the keys?
1)We are staying at a resort that has both a kitchen and bbq for us that is located in Key Largo. Where is the best place to buy a weeks worth of groceries where you will get both the most bang for your buck, as well as quality items?
2)Driving from Key Largo to Key West on average during a weekday say at 9am, does it take the full 2 hours google maps says it does?
3)Where is the best place to buy general store items, mainly snorkels, fishing pole, and any other just general items? Should we buy on the mainland or once in the keys?
4)What is a MUST DO item that a couple has to do on their first trip to the keys?
My husbands friend wants to go to the Bahamas on a group vacation, my husband and I live in Florida and were looking at prices and it seems like the Florida keys would fit better into our budget. My question is which would be a better vacation the Bahamas or the Florida keys? There would be two couples, my 6 month old daughter and a one other friend. I don't mind spending a little more for better memories. Thanks a million and happy travels
About how much money would I spend total on a vacation to the key west? (Including food, hotel, gas, activities)
Hello...We are taking our holiday in May, and after spending the first two nights in Miami's South Beach area, we're heading to the Keys. We want to see as much as possible in 2-3 days before travelling on. Could you please recommend a good area to stay and also any recommendations for hotels / motels to stay.
Thanks in advance for your help.
My sister, cousin and I are headed to the keys the first weekend of May. We will be staying 3 days and 3-4 nights. We are doing our open water scuba dives for certification as well as trying to fit in one additional dive. I am looking for a great place (key) to stay that isn't a tourist mecca, and isn't filled with college kids, but is still fun. We'll be splitting our time diving, hanging at the beach and exploring. A place that has a small bit of nightlife would be awesome but again, not looking for the "drag" of college bars and tourists that key west is known for.
Any suggestions on which key to call home base, unique accommodations, must see detours would be greatly appreciated.
we want to rent a house in marathon, but it's the first time we're considering the gulf coast, and i'm a little nervous about the bugs. we're renting the last week of august.
My family and i will be vacationing somewhere in the keys March 22-29, 2014. We have been looking online for rental homes and we are very overwhelmed! Does any have any suggestions... we are looking for a home that will accomodate 10 adults and 3 children. We prefer waterfront of some type and a pool for kiddies. Any help will be greatly appreciated :)
My husband and I are in our mid 50's, will be visiting the Keys in Feb. We prefer less crowded, more relaxed areas. I enjoy exploring the beach, have never snorkeled but want to try it. I would also like to see sea turtles. We are not interested in nightlife - bars, clubs. Would like to kayak. Hoping for some recommendations!
We have drove down two other times but I am looking for some off the beaten path stops to make on our way. Can you please tell me where you suggest we stop? Also, we have never done a tour or boating day trip in the keys and I would love to plan one as a surprise for my boyfriend.
We are arriving into Fort Lauderdale at 9.30pm on 31st December and driving to the Keys, looking for somewhere to stay for 2 nights, Islamorada we are told is 2 hours drive from FLL and we found the Hampton Inn & Suites which seems nice but somethings not clicking with it - not sure what though.
Are there any hidden gems in the keys that anyone can recommend? We stayed at the Outrigger in Fort Myers which is the type we like, nothing glitzy but beach front, Wifi and clean for a reasonable price!
I know its New Year and busy so asking a lot but this site has delivered a few gems to me before!
We are looking to drive down to Key West at some point but not stay there as we know that they have a big party on NYE!
Has anyone stayed at this resort recently. I'm trying to figure out if the rooms that have the "resort view" will be ok.....
I plan on moving to the keys the beginning of Feb. Starting fresh. I am a USMC Veteran seeking peace and serenity from the former madness. I am in my twenties with no kids, or mortgage holding me back from my plan, just a lack of local knowledge of the islands. And i have a very tight budget. My original plan was to move to key west, live in a tent, find work, move up the ladder etc. After further research, it seems like key west is not the wisest place to begin my new life. I am now looking into maybe starting in the upper keys. I want to work at a Marina or as a mate on a fishing charter boat. With my final goal being to purchase my own sailboat. I grew up on a fresh water lake working at a Marina, not the same as salt I understand, but I do have some knowledge of operating boats and some sailing experience. I will work anywhere really to begin with. I am using craigslist to find job openings and a possible place to rent. I need some local advice putting this plan into action. All knowledge would be greatful. Thank you
If one has only 2 days to be in the
Florida Keys, where should one go?
We've snorkeled a lot but never in the keys. It doesn't sound like there's much to snorkel and we definitely need to take a boat. we only are going once so want to make it count! Where is the best snorkeling? off of Key West? Marathon? Pennekamp? somewhere else? Thanks for any advice and information.
Heading down to the Keys in a couple of days and trying to figure out where the best reefs are for snorkeling. We're staying in Tavernier. Any good places? Thanks
We're planning a trip from Miami through the Keys at the beginning of September. Is this really a bad time to do this due to hurricane season? Thanks.
I am helping my daughter and her best friend plan a trip to the keys. They are 24 yrs old. They fly into Miami. Would a small camper be a good idea? Are there enough campgrounds? The price would be around75 a day and then they would have tbe flexibility to see more. They will be on holiday for 10 days. Feb. 15. - 25
Thank you for your help!
When we were in Key West about 5 years ago, we were making small talk with a bartender one day and he mentioned that there are people who own live-aboard class boats that are harbored in the various Keys and rent them out as alternatives to condos for travelers. He did not have specifics, but we are about to plan a trip down there again in the spring and would very much like to explore that as an option. I have Googled around a LOT and have not really found much so I'm not sure if this is only something done in very small numbers or if I'm just looking in the wrong places. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
HAS ANYONE HAVE SOME GOOD INFO ON THIS SUBJECT? WE ARE LOOKING INTO A TRIP NEXT YEAR. LOVE THE BEACH AND SOME ADVENTURE. WANT TO SHELL HUNT, FISH AND MAYBE SOME TREASURE HUNTING WITH A METAL DETECTOR. DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START LOOKING FOR A GOOD RENTAL COMPANY OR A GOOD PLACE TO GO. HELP IF YOU CAN. ANYONE LOOKING FOR INFO ON THE BLACKHILLS OF SOUTH DAKOTA? I CAN HELP WITH THAT.
I will be in Miami in mid May and am planning to spend Thursday to Sunday in the Florida Keys doing some diving. I will hire a car and drive down and stop at one or two spots depending on what is there.
I am keen to know where would be the best places in the Keys to go and which dive operators are good, plus mid range accommodation for when I am down there.
Currently I am thinking that Key Largo is the place I should go but am keen for suggestions
