Tanneries scam  (4 Answers)

Many people complain about the tanneries scam in Marrakech. (t.i, especially when you travel alone, once inside the tanneries, scammers block your way out and stop you from leaving again, asking suddenly a lot of money for "the visit") This seems to happen to many ppl. How about the tanneries in Fes? Same scam also happening a lot, or is it safe?

Meet people who live in Fes  (9 Answers)

Hello VT Members,

We, three girls and a guy, will be traveling to Fes, Morocco from november 5th till november 12th. We're going to Fes for an art project and we want to learn about the crafts, traditions and customs of this city and Morocco.
We would really like to get in contact with some people who live in Fes and would like to guide us around and tell us about the city.

But also information and recommendations from people who have been to Fes are really helpfull!

We hope to hear from you and hopefully meet some of you in Fes!

Kind regards,

Inge, Esther, Tom and Marit

Henna Party  (1 Answer)

Hi we are two Australian women (wrong side or 50) who would love to have a henna design done. However, I am not too keen on having one done on my hands/arms and would prefer shoulder. Can you recommend somewhere or someone who could come to our riad perhaps. What sort of prices would we be looking at?

Celebrating a special birthday  (11 Answers)

My husband and I will be in Fes from February 1-4, and are celebrating his 30th birthday on February 2!

This will be close to the beginning of our time in Morocco and we have never been there before. We will be in Morocco for two weeks total, including Marrakech, Sahara Desert overnight, and Chefchaouen.

I'd like to do something special on his birthday, but I have no idea where to start looking! A nice restaurant, a nice viewpoint, perhaps. But is there anything unique we can do? (I know there is, but don't know what!)

Thank you in advance for your help.

tour from Fes to Erg Chebbi (camel ride, overnight in tent) ends in Marrakesh?  (16 Answers)

Hello,

I am traveling solo in early Dec, female. I hope to join a group tour (not a private tour) for the Sahara visit including riding camel and an overnight in the tent by a sand dune.

However, from my research, seems all the 3day-2night tours are starting from Marrakesh ending in Marrakesh, or Rissani.

Are there any reliable group tours (not private tour) going reversely, i.e. leaving Fes, ending in Marrakesh?

Otherwise, I'll have to go to Marrakesh first to join the tour? I fly in Casablanca, fly out Marrakesh therefore it'll be most efficient to travel from Casa clockwise ending in Marrakesh, instead of going back and forth Marrakesh.

Thank you!

Also, my husband has diabetes 2 so bread and jam for breakfast is not the best ! What fruits could we buy and do they sell plain yoghurt there and where? Any help appreciated.

DAILY OPENINGS  (2 Answers)

Hello VTers,

Are the tanneries open every day? And are all the souks open?

I had read somewhere that in Seffarine Sq. some workshops are closed Fri and Sun. I hope not - Sunday is a free day from the tour we are on and I expect to spend time in the that area.

Thanks for any info.

Fes Restaurant  (3 Answers)

Hi VTers

Can anyone recommend a nice restaurant that has traditional food and perhaps music? The group we will be traveling with offers an "optional dinner" at AL FASSIA. I had read that restaurant is very touristy especially with their show and we are looking for a nice place for a birthday celebration dinner.

Thanks.

Losham

Is there a lot of masquitos or I can get away with it by wearing long sleevs and using repellent and masquito net at night? Thank you!

with or without guide?  (9 Answers)

Dear VT Friends.

The organisation of our Morrocco trip is comign to the end. But, I still have two questions.

Some people say that it is strongly recommended to have a guide in Fes, otherwise we wil be lost. Others say , if i follow the signs there won"t be any problem.
Usually I do not like organised trips, prefer to be independent, but in this case I really do not know what would be the best. Any experiences?
IF the guide is really necessary, how much shoul I pay for it?

Another question, we are going to make an excursion to Erg Chebbi.
I think, we will not spend the night in the desert, don't have enough time...
If we make a visit during the day, how much time we need? Half day, one day?
Approximate price? I know there are different agenies organising trips there, even the hotel where I stay, but I don't know what is the reasonable price for two?

Thank you/Judit

Beirut & Damascus or Marrakech & Fes  (9 Answers)

Any opinions? I've visited Marrakech a few years ago (was in Granda this past fall) and am very interested in going back to Morocco however Beirut and Damascus have gotten under my skin and are very unfamiliar thus alluring. Damascus is said to be the oldest city in the world. Beirut was (possibly still is?) the Paris of the East - and I hear the food in Lebanon is amazing. Beirut and Damascus for me is so far off the map which makes it very attractive while Morocco is a bit more familiar and is an incredible country. Help!

We are staying in Fes for 5 days then trekking through Oum er Rbia and Aguelmane Azigza near Khenifra and wondered if anyone out there had camped at either of these places.

Pronunciation of Bab Boujloud?  (20 Answers)

I could use some help with how to pronounce Bab Boujloud.
Is the "j" pronounced? Is "loud" like loud in English or would it be more like "lood"? Is the "a" in Bab like the "a" in bad? And both of the "b"s are pronounced in Bab?
I may end up arriving in Fes late and will be coming from the train station, I would like to know how to pronounce the word if I need to tell a taxi driver or ask for directions.
Thanks for any help!!!!
