I am going to be in Dili, Timor Leste in March. I'm wondering what travel route is best and cheapest from Dili to Christchurch, New Zealand. If I need to travel through Darwin, Austrailia and/or Sydney. If anyone has any ideas where to travel to and from please reply.
The other choice rather than Air North through Darwin is Singapore airlines who do a regular flight Dili/Singapore. I haven't looked up their current timetable however the connections used to be very good and avoided overnighting in Darwin.
Just checked and this service is now run by the local airline
Checked with out staff member who has used it a couple of times and said it wasn't great - but nor was it the worst airline. Booking was difficult.
Best route would be to travel from Dili to Singapore, then down to NZ.
However, if you have an Indonesian Visa (which you can get in Dili), the cheapest would be to travel overland into Indonesia. From Kupang, you can fly to Jakarta and from there to NZ.
Option one is must faster, easier and more comfortable. Option two is much cheaper.
