Where we can watch UFC 196 in Montevideo?
I'll be in Montevideo for a day on a cruise ship stop. Is there a winery close by that offers tours and will pick you up at the cruise ship dock?
Is it O.K. to take a taxi from the old town to Parque Prado & Parque Rodo and just wander around, or would we be better to take a group tour? I'm not sure how safe the parks are in th say time.

Recently I traveled to Uruguay for the first time. I found it to be a very beautiful country, nice people, good steaks, and good wine. Now I want to come back in April 08 for a month and rent an apart hotel in Montevideo. I have done alot of searching on the internet but have had little luck in trying to find a place. It looks like the bigger hotels are charging30 a night or so but I am told that you can find a nice apart hotel in a good area for300 or so a month. Can anyone offer suggestions? Quite often the newspaper is a good source of information but unfortunately I cannot read Spanish.
Thanking all in advance
We will be in Montevideo for one day. I know, I know. Not much but we have to take what we can get.
We are cruising into port on the Queen Mary 2 on Jan 20. We will be in port from from about 10am until midnight and are looking for suggestions on how best to spend the day.
We are looking for someone to pick us up and show us the town. A more real Montevideo and not only the usual tour groups tour sites. The kind of tour we would give to someone coming to San Francisco. Places to eat, walk, sit and watch, etc. We could pay for a car and driver, tour guide, civilian or whatever.... (we are in our 50's very active and well traveled)
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Will be arriving at the airport around midnight. Are there any public (city) or shuttle buses to the downtown area at that hour? If so, how late do they run?
I am a film maker sailing from Europe on an Irish Naval Vessel to Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. We will stop in Montevideo for 3 days towards the end of February or early March for only 3 days. I am sadly uninformed about Montevideo :( though I've been to Buenos Aires before. Are there similarities or are the two completely different? We'll have been sailing and attending diplomatic functions so it would be nice to have a good social time there. What are the prospects for this?
Sorry, I don't speak Spanish, but a few of us were considering going to Montevideo (and Buenos Aires) to play golf. I have found the names of good courses, by I can not find information on the ability to make tee times and the price of playing golf.
The places I have identified are (include):
Club de Golf del Uruguay
Club de Golf del Cerro
any information or suggestions would be appreciated. (I also assume it is easy to get back and forth between these cities/countries)
Montevideo or Colonia del Sacramento? Which has more to see and is worth a day trip? Either? Neither?
Thanks in advance!
Hello. I'll be in southern Brazil and would like to visit Montevideo later this month. Is there a bus from Iguacu to Montevideo? How long does the trip take? Many thanks Henry in Seattle

its possible that i will be coming to live in montevideo in january for four months, partly to dance tango-its seems more interesting to me than going to buenes aires.of course i have lots of questions-ive heard of an organisation called joven tango which says it is progressive tango-does anyone have any knowledge of them, also anyone knows how much tango lessons cost in montevideo. secondly i love playing badminton-i know there is a badminton organisation in Mtvdo, but dont know how much it is played. i know in some countries its only played by rich people.i love to play, but socially, not competition-does anyone know any friendly clubs? also here i am a metalwork artist/sculptur-can anyone tell me anbout the art scene there-i also work as an artists model and wonder if anyone knjows of any art groups that use models, as it would be useful to work a little while i am there. i am thinking of staying in red hostel-any comments, or any other ideas? any information would be fantastic, thanks for spending the time, ali
