I was in Bursa last December, visited the great bazaar and am now writing a travel article about the city and its silk-trade history.
However it is a bit uncertain exactly which months the cocoon sales takes place in the Koza Hani bazaar. Some sources say that it is in May-July, others that it is in April and September. Does anyone here know any details ?
Thank you for your kind attention !
Normally during the last week of April and/or the first week of May, because at that time only one can find mulberry leaves to feed them! You might also check out the links written in my intro.
This isn't strictly a travel question, so there is the possibility that it might be deleted from this forum.
However, it is a GREAT question, and 'd love to see more discussion on this., Can I suggest that you also post on the Miscellaneous forum as well, where such discussion is encourageed - I'll be really interested to follow the discussion.
According to the Rough Guide, the larvas are sold in April-May to families who have the job of feeding them at home. But I am thinking about the auction afterwards, when the larvas have become cocoons and are sold as such at the Koza Hani. Some say in June-July, which is probably the best bet.
Thanks for this interesting info !
