I will need to travel from Innsbruck Airport to Mayrhofen on 5th July (and back again on 12th July!). I know what route to take and what times the buses and trains are, but I'm having more trouble getting ticket prices. Are through tickets available from Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof to Mayrhofen available? Or do I need to buy a separate ticket for the Zillertalbahn when I get to Jenbach?
Also, do I buy the bus ticket from the airport to the train station from the driver or are there machines/ a kiosk that I need to buy then from first before boarding the bus?
Thanks for your help.
My partner booked a vacation in Hotel Le Blanc, Vason (near Trento). We will have car to drive around for a week.
Please share with us any recommendations for all the best places (or should we say - the most beautiful places...) around.
We heard about Lago di Tovel. We know there are many other beautiful places. We only know Val Gardena area.
Heard about Parco naturale di Adamello-Brenta. what are the "must see" places in it?
Any recommendations for day trips (by car) or for day hikes (preferably those that combine uphill cable-car/lift and walk on top of the mountain or downhill...)are most welcome!
We're trying to get on a holiday in the Tirol Area, but we still don't know whether we will be able to do it in mid-August, or just in very late September...
Is this area worth visiting in Autumn? How rainy does it get? Do the forests get colourful in that time of the year?
And if it is a good time for sightseeing ( + maybe some short hikes/walks)- do the cable cars still operate on theses dates?
And if we've mentioned cable cars...
Which is the place (town/city/village/valley...) that has the largest number of cable cars around - so one can catch every day a different one (with one of those discount cards, of course...)??
We really enjoyed our stay in Val Gardena (South Tirol, Italy)- as there were many options for lifts and cable cars to use, to "shorten" the way uphill... Any similar place in Austria?
Thanks for any info...
Is it possible to go to the Achensee from Innsbruck as a day trip by public transportation? Could you suggest a nice village on this lake?
I have booked a week-long holiday to Bavaria for mid July - flying into Munich and staying just across the border from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in Lermoos Austria. We stay in the same place for a week, and will have a car to discover the surroundings.
I have visited Munich once before and skied in Garmisch, but this holiday is with my wife and both our parents-in-law, so I'm looking for some different things to do and hope you can help:
- What are the absolute must see places? Bad Toelz, Neuschwanstein, Fuessen, Inssbruck? Or are there other villages/town/cities that are worth spending some time and other castles that can not be missed?
- Not all of us can do real mountain hiking, so what places would be best for easier strolls, like around lakes or in the valleys?
- What's best to experience some of the local life and where can we get local produce? Are there (alp milk) farms, sausage makers, beer breweries etc to visit? I read some of the local monasteries may be good for this. And related, what are the best restaurants to samples some of the local foods? (It's not the right season for game right?)
- Finally will the lakes be warm enough to swim in summer? Which ones close to Lermoos, Garmisch would you recommend for swimming or boat rental?
All other tips are welcome too!
We will be heading to Innsbruck for Christmas this year, its our first visit and very excited to finally have a cold Christmas (hoping to be a white Christmas).
Can anyone tell me where to arrange Christmas dinner/lunch on the 25th? And what will the weather be like?
Thanks very much :)
I will be travelling to Austria with my family and we will be staying in Pfunds from the 13/8/08 to the 20/8/08. I am trying to keep packing to the minimum and would prefer not to pack 4 jackets unless really necessary. Will we be okay if I pack short sleeved t-shirts themed up with long sleeved cardigans for the evening? will it still be too cold? Of course I will pack umbrellas for us and rainjackets for the kids. Thanks.
Myself and my family are visiting Ellmau for Christmas and New Year this year and were wondering if anyone knows of anywhere good to eat on Christmas day. Also, if anyone can give us any ideas on Christmas and New Year activities I would be extremely grateful.
I look forward to reading any info!
Anyone got any suggestions what would be a good day out for a family with young children staying in Brixem in mid April? We will have a car and not too worried about driving up to an hour and a half each way.
Sorry that this is a second posting of the same message but, since I'm flying into Innsbruck, I think this is where I should post.
Next week I'm heading to Langenfeld to spend a week at the Aquadome Therma-spa. I'm trying to find information on things to do but most of the postings I'm finding seem to deal with Innsbruck proper. Does anyone have ideas for Langenfeld? Are there any VT folks in the area who'd like to meet up?
I would appreciate an answer on the best way to get from Munich Airport in Germany to Mutters in Austria.
The options are: by train or car.
It seems that there is no schedule for the winter months on DB past December but maybe someone knows the route and approximate prices for train tickets...
Thanks a lot!
Where is it possible to buy CampingGas(screw type) in Worgl area?
I'm planning to ride on bicycle 6 days in April on next path:
Worgl - Mittersall - Lienz - Bressanone - St. Leonardo - Stolen - Garmisch.
Is traffic heavy or light on those roads?
I would like to ride through Hohe Tauern National Park, but map says that the park road will be open only from June.
Is it possible to pass there by road bike anyway?
Hello everyone, I have a question and would love any input
I am flying into Munich on a Thursday morning (Aug 9th) and would then be looking to start a four day hut to hut hike from Friday thru Monday night ending in or near Innsbruck. So my question is I have two options well more if it sounds good
1st was to hitch/bus/train to Garmisch in Germany and hike to Innsbruck following the huts, another was to start in Innsbruck and do some hut hiking around there also staying in huts. So my question is :)
Does anyone know of any recommended routes etc or something they would recommend. I plan on doing up to 20 km a day (very fit, done many multiple day adventure races) and just enjoying the scenery and people I meet. I will be bringing a sleeping bag and bivy in-case I can't find accomodations and willing to crash on hut floors if they are full etc :) So basically any information about huts, routes or if anyone is interested in joining I am open.
Thanks in advance :)
Hi Folks, I hope someone can give me advice on my itinerary. I'm travelling to Austria for 10 days in September. I intend to hire a car, and plan to do quite a bit of hiking, visit the Hohe Tauern National Park, the Krimml Waterfall and the Tyrol Balloon Cup events in Kirchberg. I arrive at Salzburg Airport on a Sunday evening and have 3 options.
1. 1st night in Salzburg, spend next day sightseeing in city then travel on to St Wolfgang area for 2 nights then move on to Kirchberg/St Johann area for remaining 7 nights.
2. 5 nights St Wolfgang area and 5 nights Kirchberg/St Johann area.
3. Whole stay in Kirchberg/St Johann area
From my research on internet I like the sound of St Johann in Tirol. Is it a better choice than Kirchberg? I don't need alot of nightlife, just a variety of places to eat and good hiking trails nearby.
What do you think?
Any experienced skiers going to Gerlos from the 23rd till 30th and would like to ski one afternoon with this dutch 30 yo guy from Amsterdam?
Anyone having any tips for Gerlos?
There's a VT meeting scheduled on the 29th of December in (the west of) Tirol, Fendels, just have a look at the "Meetings& events" page! We have a few interested VT'ers already, though no "bookings" yet.
If you live in the area or plan to be on holiday then - just sign up! We expect to be around 5-10 VT'ers, and just to have some "outdoors" during the day and apres-ski later. Of course you're also welcome to join from further away - but bear in mind getting accommodation can be tough this time of year!
Depending on the responses we can also try to schedule another date between Christmas and New Year.
See ya around!
Can anybody tell me where to find watertemperatures of the Inn on the net?
I will be rafting the next weekend and know that it will be cold, but want
to know how cold... :)
Thanks in advance!
Hi all. I'm getting ready for a full season in the Arlberg area and will be living out of my van. I'm hoping to get a job a night. Does anyone know what kind of cash in hand jobs might be available for a friendly Aussie like myself?
Any tips are greatly appreciated.
My wife, our baby son and myself are planning 3 days tour (late June) in the salzburg and Tiro area. we are looking for nice accomodation (zimmers or farms) in towns such as Krimml, Zel amm see, Kaprun and so on (mainly in that area of the natinal park).
Please advise. the price should not be over 60 Euros.
I need help with planning a transfer from Innsbruck airport to Soelden (Sölden). I have found the connection from Innsbruck airport to Ötztal Bahnhof, but I can't find the timetable of local bus to Soelden - if anyone has info, please share. Also recommendations for local taxi service would be great. Thank you very much! Kristina
Anyone know of this village? Looking for somewhere peaceful and relaxing in August but within driving distance of Kitzbuhel and Salzburg. What is the weather like in August in Tirol? Is it mostly sunny or is there a greater risk of rain with it being in the mountains?
