My 10 year old daughter, my hubby and myself will be in Salzburg for 4 days end of March. Would like a day trip to Munich and the German areas near to salzburg. Please suggest....
Is the Salzburg to Fuschl am See bus (I think it's the 150) wheelchair-friendly? Does anyone have wheelchair experience getting around Salzburg?
Is it possible to tour these two sites and return to Berchtesgaden the same day? If it is possible time wise - how physically strenuous would it be?
Trying to hammer out an itinerary for our 2 night 2 day Salzburg visit and we have the first day/night pretty much covered and on the 2nd day I wanted to visit Hallstatt in the morning and a salt mine in the afternoon. I've been looking at tours for these 2 places but it seems I can't get one that would have us do it in 1 day since a lot of the salt mines are closed until mid april and we are there in the first week. Any suggestions how we can do both in 1 day using public transport (we don't drive)?
Is it absolutely not possible to visit this gorge in April? We are only in Salzburg for 3 full days and on one of those days in early April I wanted to check out those pathways along the gorge. I've checked the website, and it does say May thru October, but just wondered if people were allowed to access the gorge even a short ways? How can we get there by public transport from the Salzburg train station? Bus tours?
Hi, my wife and I will take a day round trip from Salzburg to Mondsee and a day round trip from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden in early September. Could anybody tell me what is the most convenient and economical way of excursion, by bus by train? If by bus, where can i buy the ticket (from driver? from counter?)? Price? A day pass covering the round trip and all commuting of train/bus, boat possible?
In May my colleague are travelling by train from London to Istanbul and are thinking about visiting Salzburg on the way from Munich to Vienna, it looks like the train is scheduled to arrive about 11am and will probbaly spend 24 hrs exploring the city. We are interested in the architecture, art and exploring by ourselves, but after seeing the "Sound of Music" I would very much like to see the abbey, chateau, but don't want "kitsch". Can this be done in a day.
We would also be looking for inexpensive restaurants/pubs and a place to stay.
Danke schoen/thank you
We are a group going to meet up outside Salzburg (Tyrol). But some members of the group come from USA and Dubai, so getting there seems to be difficult.
What is the easiest way to get to Salzburg?
Flying to Vienna and change plane?
Taking a train from Munich in Germany? Can anyone explain more about this train route? I heard it is a fast train? Does it stop anywhere?
Is there any other connections to major airports in Germany or Switzerland?
We are on a cruise ending in Venice on 12th May 2011, we would like to go to Salzburg, possible by train with stopovers on the way, while we are in Salzburg we would like to do a Sound of Music tour and also go on the Schafberg Railway and perhaps a river cruise, does anyone have any suggestions and also where the best central place to stay to do these tours.
Hello - I need to pick up an Austrian soccer jersey and I will only be in Salzburg for a few hours. Does anyone know if there is a soccer store there or where I could find a soccer jersey ? Thanks !
My wife and I are tentatively planning a visit to the Salzburg area in July for about 5 days. We will have a rental car at our disposal. Usually, we prefer to stay outside cities - in simple "zimmers" in the countryside - and commute to the city via public transport, or a combination of public transport and car.
My question is: Is there an abundance of "zimmers" in the Salzburg area countryside, no more than about 30-40 minutes from the city center (by car or car+public transport)? By "abundance" I mean like what exists in Croatia or Slovenia ("sobe").
I thank you very much.
we want to travel from South of france to Innsbruck and Salzburg via Italy, can anyone tell us of driving conditions in December on main motorways,do you need chains?
Seeking advice regarding a ski location 1 to 2 hours from Salzburg. Looking for a quaint and charming ski town. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks.
I will be staying 4 days in Bad Hofgastein. I will take a day trip to Salzburg. Opinions on what is a must see. Love castles. My husband asked about the Salt Mines. I have read good and bad comments. Anyone think this is a great trip? Not nuts about really touristy stuff. Best way to get there from Bad Hofgastein or Salzburg? Any must see Daytrips that can be done from Gastein area? Train will be transport.THNKS!
When I look at tickets for trains in Austria there is a ticket that says plus one for a discount. Is the price shown for one ticket or two? Is this available for non residents? Could someone tell me how this ticket works. If I am reading right I cannot get a vorteil card because I have no Austrian address. Trying to decide on point to point tickets or using Austria Eurail. also if you come from Italy and you have an Austria pass do you buy a ticket to the first stop in Austria and then use your pass or how does that work? I have looked at the OBB website but I could not get prices for Verona to Badgastein. It said they were not available but I did find the train schedule.
I thought perhaps point to point using the +1 would be cheaper than the eurail but I cannot find the prices. I need to go Verona-badgastein-salzburg-badgastein-vienna. Thank you
Hello, just wondering how easy (or difficult) it is dricing to Salzburg frm Munich. Is there somewhere I can get directions in English?
Will then also need directions from Salzburg to Slovenia.
Also, do you think its possible to see the sights of the 'sound of music'[ tour, by doing it yourself and driving to the sights? We thought we might as well drive considering we have car hire anyway
Suggestions on reasonable 40euro B&B near the Salzburg Stadt area for 1 night in mid May.
Hi, I'm going to Bad Gastein in 3 weeks time skiing for the first time and would like to know if it is possible to hire the ski jackets and trousers in there and the cost? thank you
Are there any pubs in Badgastein where they show English football. I am heading for Bad Gastein in Easter and found out that Arsenal are playing Chelsea and Man U are playing Liverpool on March 22 2008, wouldn't like to miss that...
We'll travel to Bad Gastein in Easter. I know that one can rent ski equipment there, but is it possible to rent ski jackets and trousers as well and would anyone know the costs?
Hello everyone... Would anyone know if there is some type of event on the 24th of December in the town where they first wrote and sang the hymn "Silent Night"? I know the actual church was destroyed in a flood but I believe they built the town and a chapel a few miles away... Does anyone know the best way to get there from Salzburg?? Any "must see" things for a 1 day trip to Salzburg?? Any information would be greatly appreciated..
Hi. On 30th, October, I will be going from Prague to Salzburg. I will need to return to Prague on 1st, November. How long would this take by rail? How long would it take to drive there? Would you recommend any other mode of transportation?
Hi! We will be in Prague and Budapest for about 6 days. We plan to arrive in Vienna or Salzburg on Friday October 26 by train from Budapest. We fly out of Vienna on Sunday morning Oct 28. Is it possible for us to see both Vienna and Salzburg during the Friday and Saturday that we are in town? I was thinking that we could see Salzburg on Friday and Vienna on Saturday. Is that crazy? Or should we spend the 2 days visiting only one city? If so, which one do you prefer?
Thanks in advance!
Me and a friend will drive to this area in a bit more than a week.
Does anyone know any cheap campsites?
We're going there to do some nice hiking. Any advise on good hikes is very welcome.
I'm thinking of going on vacation to Salzkammergut in the end of june and the beginning of july. I've found in the guide that there is a lot of rain especially in july. Is it true? Does it mean that it is raining every day and there is always cloudy? I do not want to spend the whole vacation in rain - so is my question: how really weather looks like in june/july?
Thank you in advance for your answers,
Assallamou Alaykum BrothersI will be in Prien bavaria soon ,where is the nearest mosque?
Any suggestions for lodging in Salzburg this June? Would it be better to stay in a hotel or a bed and breakfast. Any ideas for a good location at a reasonable price?
I'm going to be with my family in Salzburg for a week from next Saturday. My parents have booked some tours and have left me with the 27th & 28th to organise our own trips. I was thinking we'd go to Zell am See & Kaprun and also Berchtesgaden.
I have a few questions...
Would anyone be able to give me links to good maps of these local areas? Or perhaps I just need the directions from the train/bus stations to the tourist information centre. We should probably make a quick stop there first.
What buildings etc shouldn't we miss? Are they easy to find + walk to?
Is the Berchtesgaden palace closed on the 27th-28th? It said 'closed during holidays', but I don't know if that means just public holidays or what..
I don't really know what there is to see in Zell but heard it was a nice town and I wanted to go up the Kitzsteinhorn as this is the closest I will get to Grossglockner! I thought there's a slight chance I could convince my family to try skiing, or else go ice skating or do a sleigh ride. Are there any really scenic short walks either in the valley or up the mountain that are possible in winter?
Which transport is best? Bus to Berchtesgaden (I read the bus from Salzburg - RVO 9540 - goes past the salt mines so we could get off there easily, + catch another bus - rvo 9541 + 9542 from there to Konigsee?) but train to Zell?
(Are those bus numbers still correct?)
I've read the season's not great at the moment, is there any snow away from the mountains? We had booked a full day sleigh ride for xmas day, do you think this is likely to be possible, and if not, what else could we do that day? Will local buses be running? I read in another post that bus 25 from the old town goes to the nearby mountain in 20 mins and you can catch a cable car up top. Is this worth doing? Are there easy walks up there?
Sorry for all the questions! I usually like to do my research for in advance but haven't had the chance this time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi, we arrive in Saltzburg airport 31/12 at approx 7.30pm and are worried that we'll not make the last transfrer train at 8.10 - can anyone recommend a transfer taxi/bus to Bad Goisern??
Hubby and I are going here for Christmas and he says he'd love to have a Christmas dinner out somewhere nice while we are there. Thanks in advance! OH he doesn't eat pork, bacon, salami etc. (no pig meat) he doesn't drink alcohol or eat alcoholic sauces. The only thing I don't "do" is fois grais and maybe I'll skip on venison. All other meat and drink is great though! Thank you!!!
