Hi!
For Uzhorod you could fly - http://www.bts.aero/en/passengers/
For Maribor via Vienna you could choose bus or train.

I wish you safe trip and nice vacation!

You can find train times and details in English on the official German railway website, which carries official data from all other European railway websites:

bahn.com/p_en/view/index.sht...

Maribor is over 200 miles from Bratislava and is not a straightforward rail journey. At 5.5+ hours one-way, I don't think it's a feasible daytrip.

Alternatively, you could take the train to Vienna and then the bus:

www.flixbus.com/bus-routes/bus-maribor-vienna

but, again, it's not a feasible daytrip.

Uzhgorod is 300+ miles from Bratislava. DB does not list it as a destination.

Uzhhorod (at bahn.com/p_en/view/index.sht... it is called Ujgorod) by train at least 3 changes and 12 hours, by bus 2 times per week from Budapest, Euroclub, you can book with Volan Busz webelin.volanbusz.hu/nemzetk...
Maribor as above bus or train via Vienna.
Both towns are to far for daytrips

Thank you, Uli. I strongly suspected that Uzhorod had another name on DB but was unable to find it this morning. :-)

Many of the places in western Ukraine have several names, DB somehow prefers to use the less usual.

sorry I meant to say we will be staying overnight in either city...we may give Uzhhorod a miss but will be definitely going to Maribor. Also can you travel to Zagreb or anywhere in Croatia that's near to Maribor for a short trip?

Of course, you could use train or bus. As I saw online if you choose train you will end up in Zagreb almost in midnight. I will choose some option that wll get me in new destination at least in noon, but that is me. There are many online resouces. One of them is here - buscroatia.com/hr/pretraga-r...

Acording to this site slo-zeleznice.si/en/passenge... maybe is better to go first to Ljubljana or Zidani most and from there continuing to Zagreb.

There is also information that bus arrive in Zagreb in about 7 pm.

Is not so close but I think is worth. Zagreb is very nice place - [original VT link]

It is all depend how time you have and energy. You could think about visit VaraĹždin insted because is much closer.

I wish you nice vacation!

From Zagreb there is train to Budapest.

I wish you nice vacation!

Staying overnight makes a difference! :-)

Look at the DB site for train times and details to e.g. Zagreb. Or, if you want to make a circular trip, you can go there from Maribor and then return to Bratislava by train. DB has the info.

There are regular buses from Maribor>Zagreb:

croatiabus.hr/index.php?lang...

Journey time is around 2h 15m. Train is slightly slower but it is a much more straightforward journey than Bratislava>Maribor.

Varazdin is also feasible by train from Maribor, but perhaps only if you catch the 0700 departure. It takes 3h 14m, whereas later departures take longer.

The train from Bratislava which Odiseya mentions, arriving in Zagreb around midnight, is just one of several options during the day. It is the only direct (i.e. no change) departure...but changing trains is no big deal imo. There are departures Bratislava>Zagreb which involve several changes but there is also a train at 1133 with only one change, arriving at 2044. That would be my preferred option.

There are direct trains Bratislava>Budapest with a journey time of just under 3 hours (DB again). Budapest seems an obvious choice for an overnight excursion, assuming you have not yet visited.
