Hi, I have just finished a reply for "crewrower" when your question came. Could you read my reply to him, and if you email me I will answer more questions. Have a look at my tips. We were there for 3weeks and filled it in ok. Loved Borneo. We went in June, quiet and good weather then, don't know about December. Under my Borneo page, I have what we did in our time, then I have tips under the towns. Labuan island is off the coast of Borneo.
This is an excellent page for weather info about all the regions on Borneo:
December is not really the best month for climbing Mt. Kinabalu, as this is the season of the north-east monsoon (November to January). The best months for this hike are February to April and August/September.
Here is more detailed weather info about this region:
The rainy season in Borneo is normally from October through February; however, it was just starting to dry out when I was there in Mar 09. I think in Feb 09 there was even flooding and the Baram River was closed above Marudi for a while. If you plan to take any 4WD trips, I would recommend avoiding the rainy season.
