Hi Quick Question. Ive never been to Barranquilla in Colombia. I will be going there shortly and I am looking for the best tourist areas to hang out.. I want places similar to the Colonial town in Cartagena ect with tourists shops cafes restaurants and still a tourist attraction.. Any suggestions people?
my boyfriend and me just came to Barranquilla where we will start to work - we are therefore looking for a long term flat (300.000 - max. 500.000 COP per month), best would be in the barrios 'Boston' or 'El Recreo' or somewhere around the direction Carrera 38 No 69 (thats where the company is).
It would also be perfect to rent something cheaper than a hotel for 2 weeks from now in which we could find a long term flat.
Thanks in advance for every recomendations!!

How much does the bus cost from bogotá to barranquilla?
As flights into Bogotá are 200 euros less then flying directly to Barranquilla and I get to see some of the country. And......yes I know it takes about 22 hours :-)
Any inexpensive (or moderate price) hotels in BAQ?
Haven't been to BAQ since 2001, looking for something for a couple of weeks to a month, but want to stay within budget (i.e. moderately priced hotel,) with kitchen (stove, fridge) - possible. But staying in a relatively safe area where I can walk most of the day, or early evening.
Would like something closer to shops or restaurants, easy walking distance. (but not into the nightclubs too much). Not looking for women, etc. as the main purpose of my trip.
Would like some suggestions/guidance on how to secure the room, should it be online (I somehow think that's not a good idea), etc.
Might stay for extended period if it goes well.....
All info (up-to-date) would be appreciated...
where are some cheap hotels in barranquilla. also what is the night life like with the ladies.
My family and I will be travelling to Baq in Dec., we are all Canadian citizens and have Canadian passports except my wife is orginally from Colombia(only been Canadian 13 yrs)so as I understand it she will need to enter and leave Colombia using her Colombian passport(DAS rules), we will be flying via Miami and she will be using her Canadian passport to re-enter the United States, my question is will it be a problem with the airline/Avanica as our plane tickets is in her married/Canadian passport name and her Colombian passport is in her maiden name, which passport should be shwon to the airline when leaving ? I assume since the airline has nothing to do with immigration showing the CDN passport should be enough. anyone have any information or experience doing this before with dual citizenship ?

I am planning a trip within the next year and I was wondering if it would be wise to rent a car while I am there. I plan on going to the beach every chance that I get, but I am not sure if I should drive there. A friend of mine has mention that while she was there, she took buses to the beach, but I am not sure I want to be stuck on a bus schedule while I am having fun in the sun. Is there anyone out there that can find a solution to my problem?

I see there are already a few posts asking about economic hotels in Barranquilla. However the price ranges discussed are high for us!! Anyone know of a great, ultra cheap ($0-$10 maybe15 dollars for two people) place to stay in that city? Will be there for Carnival and need to book something soon - so any contact info would be dandy as well.

I am planning to go to Cartagena and or Baranquilla by the end of the summer . I just have a couple weeks. Im thinking about settling down there. Setting my sights on a potential places to retire someday, or call a second home. I traveled a lot but never here. Besides just traveling, which would be a better place live for a gringo who speaks very basic spanish. The cost of living, so many women, and the fact that the coast of Columbia seems to be at the beginning of an upswing for international tourism and real estate investment( re investing is my business too so Im thinking to buy a house since prices seem to be starting to go up as the place seems to be gettin safer) Cartegena seems a better choice. What do ya'll think. Which is hotter. Is it really humid. Cartegena seems to be more modern and have more amenities and conveniences. Plus the beaches seem more beautiful???
I want to dance, dance and dance. I want to eat chicken and fish. I want to take in a movie, go to the port and to other close by city on the bus.
