I'm planning a trip to Aukland for early may. My main goal (aside from basic site seeing) is to do some awesome scuba diving. The options seem endless. From Poor Knights Islands / Bay of Islands how can I narrow down the best? (I only have so much time and money)
I'm a beginning level, certified, scuba diver,-- for those who've experienced the Northern Island, what is the best to see in your opinion? If you have any personal pics to share, that would be awesome as well!
Am currently debating Rainbow Warrior dive but am worried it might be too touristy?
We are planning holiday starting at North Island 26th June 2011 and doing two weeks on each island. I am worried people have said that the weather will not be good and should go early next year. Can anyone advise on this. what sort of weather can we expect. We will be travelling by car, staying in hotel/motel and wanting to do a bit of walking and mainly want to experience New Zealands scenic beauty. Should we go in July?
Hi. We're travelling to the North Island (first trip) in October this year. I'm looking at "Campervan Hire Sale Finder" and I am surprised at the low price of some of the vans. They have a Compass 2 berth van with toilet and shower forau800 for 13 days (plus waiver insurance). Can anyone tell me if this is a decent company to deal through? Any other suggestions?
Does anyone know if the Queens Head on Queen Street Auckland has reopened or if anyone else has moved into the premises. On holiday and used to go there untill it was suddenly shut last year. Thanks
Planning to visit Auckland İn January for 4 days.
Need advice for what to see.
Because of lefthand traffic we will not have a car.
Interested to see what we cannot see in Europe or USA.
Have seen some vulcanoes ,so only active are of interest to us.
In case South island is more interesting please advise ,we could change the destination to Christchurch or other.
I will be travelling with a child, age 7, to Auckland 4-12 of August, I should be staying in the North Shore.
Till the 9 of August I will might have 3-4 hours free during the day
And 10-11 full days…
What would you suggest to see? Where to go?
Do I need to rent a car or I can use public transport?
Thank you very much
I'm arriving the 7 januari 2009 in Auckland and have plans to cycle to Wellington. Because I don't have to much time at least I want to ride the the north-east cost - say from Tauranga to Hastings. I've heard it's the most beautifull coastal road in the world. Have advice? Please let me know! Want to join me for some kilometers? Be welcome! Want to hear about Holland? Just ask!
Hope to hear from you soon,
I have been told by many travelers and family who have previously lived in NZ that there is a large culture of budget travellers coming into NZ buying second hand camper vans and then selling these at the end of their trip - because it is far cheaper than renting. Certainly our research about costs bears this out.
However, despite madly Googling - we can not find out where the big meets are held in Auckland and Christchurch where people go to buy and sell their vans? Also does anyone know how difficult it is to get vehicle insurance without an NZ address?
Hi,i would like to know how far apart are these 2 addresses.

We'll be in NZ for 30 days, traveling north and south islands. We're starting out in Auckland and picking up our campervan there. My question is whether Auckland can be experienced in 1 day or 2? We're more rural seekers than city people. (we're both 30) We're not interested in doing a cruise, I may possibly do the sky tower jump. I think we're planning on checking out either Mt. eden or one tree hill for the views, possibly the Auckland Museum (we'll be visiting TePapa in Wellington - Auckland better than TePapa?), and hanging out at the harbor. So is 1 day okay? I'm anxious to get going on our journey with the campervan, but I don't want to rush too much in Auckland and miss out on something unique. any opinions would be great!
What is the name of the youngest volcanoe in the Hauraki Gulf?
We are coming to a holiday home near Laingholm from the UK. We have never been to New Zealand and will spend New year here and then a week in Stanmore Bay. We have a 6 year old and need some advice about New year activities and things for kids to do in the general Auckland area.
Any help gratefully recieved
I just went to the english version of the Daiso homepage.... Because im going to japan next year 2007 in April, and going to Harajuku on the 3rd day but days 1 and 2 im going to Ameyoko and Akihabara and Asakusa and SHibuya, im just wondering if Daiso have all the products that all those areas produce.. in other words will it be better to buy everything from Daiso rather than in Shibuya and Ameyoko?? it may be cheaper, but if Daiso doesnt have the item i want i wouldnt be able to go back to Shibuya or Ameyoko anymore.. help!
first of all, i would like to thanks those who replied my posting which regarding 'ways to work in NZ' days ago.. thank you for your precious opinion..
however, i can't make up my mind yet, knowing that paying for agency to help me to settle all the matter seems to be an easier and better way, but, on the other hand, i felt that its such a waste of money. what should i do?
I have tried to email some hotel in auckland. Its either no reply or they told me that in order for me to apply for the position, i need to hold a legal working permit/visa.
for your info, i'm in hospitality field. and yet, i'm just a student who will graduate soon. chances to get a entry level job seems to be pretty slim. i mean for a foreigner (Malaysian)like me. right?
Looking at being in Auckland mid-Feb 2007 and looking for ideas.
My wife loves to go to beaches. Is Waiheke + Great Barrier Island good places to go to then? How long would you suggest spending at these places. Are these the places to go to for a Romantic getaway?
We will only be in Auckland for 7 days.
Any other suggestions. Thanks.
Hi, in March we are off to New Zealand. We land at Auckland very early in the morning!
We need to find a hotel which will be easy to get to from the airport.
Also, we have 5 days there before we get on a ship, then we fly back into Christchurch. We want to see as much as possible so has anyone any bright ideas about 'must sees'? We are going to hire a car to get around. Also, does New Zealand have carvan parks or log cabins that you can rent?
I will be travelling to Auckland and then the North Island from Oct 10-25th. We're just starting to plan the exact itinerary and I was trying to guage the cost of Hotel/Accomodation. I realize that costs vary depending on city and location, but I was looking to spend around100 (USD) or less per night.
I think that Auckland may be the most expensive place on the North Island...am I wrong?
Also, is100 USD per night an OK estimate for most location throughout the North Island.
I will be with my wife and we are looking at placed that are clean, safe and comfortable...we're not looking for very fancy places.
Thanks and look forward to your response.
Hi! I've gotten an extremely cheap flight from Stockholm, Sweden to Bangkok and would like to jump on to New Zeeland to visit a friend. Does anyone have a tip on how to get from Bangkok to NZ as cheap as possible?
I would like to travel to NZ around end june to mid july. Is winter a good time to visit NZ. Is it safe to travel solo from North to South Island?
CAN ANY ONE GIVE ME INFORMATION ON A GOOD STABLES TO GO TO IN THE AUCKLAND AREA.
It is a warm sunny Saturday in January in Greater Auckland and you wake up early eager to get a jump on the day. Your one goal: to work on your all-over-suntan. Which beach or beaches do you go to and can you get to them without a car? Is there one that most Aucklanders think of over others? Is naturism very popular in New Zealand? If not very popular, are those who choose this recreation tolerated? Thanks.
My family and I will be in Auckland for one week in December. We are coming from San Francisco. This is our first time in New Zealand. Are shops, movies, or restaurants open on Christmas day? What should we absolutely see or do? Thanks.
I will be making my way up to Paihia and Kaitaia during my trip up north for a few days and the stuff i am going to do include the "Cruise to Hole in the Rock" and the "Ninety-Mile Beach tour".
Are these must-dos? Any other Must dos along the way up to Kaitaia from Auckland and back down to Auckland via Dargaville?
I am going to NZ in a few months, with a group, using Down Under Answers as the tour operator. (this is NOT an endorsement by the way).
I've already paid for the tour but have reasons to wonder if they have their act together and if this trip will be a success or not. One can only hope.
The official tour ends on a Thursday, and I fly home Saturday evening. That gives Thurs afternoon, all day Friday, and all day Saturday 'til say 5 PM to do whatever I like (plane leaves at 8 PM)
Down Under Answers did send to me some day-trip options at what seem to be really reasonable prices but given their general lethargy at answering any of my minimal questions once I paid for the tour, I'm tempted to strike out on my own for the last 48+ hours.
The options she presented which look appealing are:
1. Waiheke Island
2. Rangitoto (if time permits)
3. Mount Eden, also Muriwai beach and wine tastings at two wineries.
4. morning in Auckland, then on to Waitakere Ranges/Arataki Centre, also black sand beach and rainforest.
I can figure this all out on my own but at this point would just as soon find a day-trip tour operator and tag along. chances are DUA sub-contracts out to locals and I'd end up on the same tour anyway.
any comments welcome. thanks!
Hi, I just did a search for places to stay in Aukland and the choices are immense. Any suggestions. It will be my last 3 nights (Feb 11-13) of a five week trip before a gruelling 24+ hour flight, so a decent bed would be nice. This is a link to one of the hotel list sites. Yikes. Any suggestions in the under125 range? Which part of the city would be best? Thanks, Lisa
I thought I'd start a new subject on this. My map says it will take about 3 hours to drive that wriggly coastline. Is that true? Do I have to go back to the drawing board to downsize my plans? We don't want to spend all day driving around; want to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and sulfur, too, in Rotorua, etc. ;) Some sites say you can pretty well see each island in about five days, but not with tortuously twisty roads, I can't! Any help will be appreciated. Thanks... w
Four of us will be joining a sailboat in Auckland on 21 December. Where is the most interesting place to be for Christmas Eve / Day and for the New Years celebration? Any particularly special events on any of the islands of the Harauki Gulf or Auckland itself? A special Maori celebration maybe? I enjoyed reading of the traditional beach barbeque. Thanks!
A good friend of mine is currently travelling trough New Zeeland. He would like to find a job in Auckland for a while (he has a work and holiday visa). Does anyone has advice about finding a job in Auckland??? Or maybe in the nearby area?? I have been to NZ myself but I just travelled and therefore I don't know much about working in NZ as a backpacker. Any advice is welcome!! Thanking you in advance!!! Greetings from Holland! Maaike
Hi friends I ever read about leakage ozone layer hardly in Auckland. Is it happened only in NZ or any other tropical country? And the radiation will effect only during summer or winter as well? How many SPF body lotion should I wear? Sorry if my question look silly. cheers,
