I have looked over answers given to 'BeckyR9' on where to visit by public transport in the Arles area. We are hoping to look around Arles in the morning and take public transport into the Camargue, for a walk along the paths through the lagoons, in the afternoon. We have no wish to travel all the way to St Maries de la Mer so can anyone suggest where we should get off the bus enroute? More for the wild life and ambiance of the landscape if that is possible. (a few horses and flamingoes would be a bonus)
we are staying in Sommieries about an hour west of Nimes, but really want to go to the " La Camargue aux Arènes 2015 " in arles which starts at 5.30pm. I am having trouble finding the bus and train times to get back from Arles via Nimes and on to Sommierries in the late evening. Anyone help please? thank you
My sister and I will be in the area the end of August. We haven't been to Europe before so it will all be new. I've read some reviews on both - the high crime rate seems to be a concern with Marseilles. Which would be better to stay at do you think?
Thank you very much in advance :)
Any good tours you would recommend to take while in Arles?Any reputable tour company you would suggest is good?
We wil be one week in Arles in July and will be using only public transportation. What do you suggest we see and do? Would we be able to do a winery tour? Thanks
My husband and I have begun a 6 week house exchange in Arles! (We will be here until mid-June.) We have a car included and we are hoping to keep the distance that we drive it to about 100 miles in any direction. I would love to hear any tips that you care to share on any subject that may not be in one's typical tour book...places to eat, places to shop, places to swim, day trips from Arles, overnight trips to enjoy, places to swim. Anything that we should not miss. Unfortunately in this lovely country where a baguette is part of the daily diet, I have to eat gluten free (celiac). So any info on gluten-free eating would also be most welcome. Thank you so much!
Where is train station located in Arles that will take me to Vitrolles?
We are vegetarian and want to know if there are any vegetarian restaurants in Arles? Where is the best place to get groceries from? Is there good public transportation in town? Is it a walkable city?

My daughter will be Arles with her college and unfortunately needs to return to the USA early, so she will be traveling to airport on her own. Is there any type of car service that can pick her up at the hotel and take her directly to the airport? I do not want her to have to travel by train and then transfer to bus, etc. I would prefer to hire a car from a limo service instead of using a taxi. Any suggestions?
I will be in Arles in late May and would like suggestions for a nice hotel which is centrally located and which has parking.
Our river cruise ends in Arles and we have a flight booked that day (a Thursday) from Marseilles to Paris. Can we take a taxi from the cruise port to the train station and buy the train tickets when we get there? Is there a manned ticket window or just machines for tickets? Our flight doesn't leave until 1:40 pm and by looking at the train schedule it looks like there are a few morning trains that travel that route.
I have about a month free (I'll already be in Europe) from mid-December to mid-January, and am thinking of going to southern France. Is it 'worth it' at that time of year? I've read it doesn't get too cold in any month but any thoughts? Thanks
Hello dear friends,
Am considering booking a flight on Air Méditerranée and being from Portland, Oregon (USA) I have no knowledge of this airlines. I'm trying to determine if it is a safe, reliable and somewhat comfortable airlines to fly on from MRS to Croatia.
Would like to take an excursion from Toulon France to Arles to visit Van Gough sites. Our Cruise is in December 2013.
The ship arrives in Toulon at 9am departs 5pm.
Ideas for excursion would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You John
I am quite happy to walk around the town but where would be the best place to park (is it likely that there would be space at say 10am?
When are they this coming years? I have found two websites and both have different dates and both say subject to confirmation. When will they be held? I will be in Arles either April 19, 20 or 21, 2014
I am a tourist travelling from villefranche to Arles in the Fall of 2014. Is there any bus transportation is available? And how do I get schedule, costs, etc
Wher can I store my luggage during the day visiting in Ar
I bought a hand made porcelain wall hanging of a Provencal farandole woman dancer in a shop in Arles. I would like to buy more, but cannot find any on the Internet. Can anyone help me find this item. The "lady" is about 10" tall, hangs flat against the wall & came in various dress colors. There is a stamp in the porcelain on the back which is in a small ova, which reads:
L'Atelier des Cefel(?)(?)
Can anyone help me find more of these "farandole" ladies?
We were planning to take a train from Arles to Avignon and then the navette to the Avignon TGV station, but I noticed in Rick Steves that there is a direct SNCF bus to the Avignon TGV station. We would take that on the way back to Aix-en-Provence, so I think it would save a little time. I looked and saw that there is a bus station in Arles, as well as the train station, but then it dawned on me that Rick Steves didn't say where to catch the SNCF bus. Anyone know?
We will be taking a riverboat cruise in France in August and ending our trip in Arles. We would like to take a car service from Arles to the Nice airport. Our flight would be leaving Nice at 1:30pm.
What time would we have to leave Arles to make our connection and can you recommend a car service for the trip? There will be 4 adults with quite a bit of luggage.
My wife and I will be driving through southern Provence in mid-Sept. on our way to the Luberon. We will only have about 4 hours to stop in Arles at mid-day on a Saturday. We will be looking for a place to park for the afternoon and the only parking deck I could find in on the Blvd. des Lices, right in the middle of the Saturday market. Can any one suggest a safe place to leave our car for a few hours? Will we be able to see a few highlights of Arles in this amount of time? Thanks.
One more question for the very-helpful folks who know the area around Arles: When we leave Arles, we would like to drive through the Luberon area with no itinerary, stopping when the spirit (or the scenery) moves us. Is that possible in mid to late September, or will we risk sleeping in the car if we have no reservations at that time of year?
One of the things we'd like to do when we are in Arles in September is visit the Camargue. We will have a car. Does anyone know whether it is possible to make a self-guided tour to see the white horses, bulls, flamingos and other sights of that region? Some of the guided tours look a little pricey.
We will be traveling in Provence in September of 2012. We would like to use atm machines as a way to get Euros to spend. Are the machines plentiful in Provence? Our atm cards do not have chips. Will cards without chips work in France?
We will be arriving at the TVG train station in Avignon, from Paris, in September, about mid afternoon. We just found out that our hotel is near the other train station. Does a train run between the two stations? Can we take a local train from the TVG station to the other station, the one that is near the town center? Perhaps a bus?
My husband and I will be in Arles on June 30, July 1 and 2, I read that there would be some special activities that weekend with the bulls. How can we get tickets for the games? Are they available in advance online?
Thanks for any other information about events going on that weekend!
