ROUTE PLAN  (4 Answers)

hello
booked the tickets for 10 days in June, Marseille to Bordeaux with rented car. Its not a small distance, but we are stuck with the mountains/countryside. How much time should we dedicate to the Gorges du Tarn area, and Perigord (Noir) -Sarlat? Our itinerary will be more or less Marseille -Aix -Arles -Montpellier -Toulouse - Albi - Sarlat -.Bordeaux. What do you think? Which part is skippable, to make the rest more comfortable? Between Albi and Sarlat which one is better to stay and more interensting? Between Toulouse and Montpellier?
Thank you so much

Travelling from Bordeaux to Nice  (7 Answers)

There are four of us who plan to spend four days in the Bordeaux area before setting off to Italy by road. We have only four days of travelling before hooking up with a train from Nice to Genoa. Clearly this isn't enough to do the area justice but we have no choice. We are unsure which way we should travel. One option is to drive southeast from Bordeaux via Toulouse and Carcasonne. The other option is via Bergerac along the Dordogne River through La Roque-Gageac, down to Cahors and then across to Millau. Which option is best....or is there a better option?

Hope I've posted in the right forum:)

Itinerary Advice Sought  (8 Answers)

Well, I've gotten great help so far from this forum and my wife and I have part of our itinerary now set.
I'd love opinions regarding the remainder from those of you with experience both in the Dordogne and in part of the Languedoc.

Here's the first part that is set - September 4th through the 13th fly to Paris and then go to Dordogne where we will stay at Le Charmé de Carlucet for 7 nights. We had planned to spend the 13th through the 18th in Carcassone and Toulouse and then head to Paris for 4 days before heading home.

The key questions are: a) whether Carcassone is worth all that driving when there is so much in Dordogne and Lot. b) whether Toulouse will be interesting for more than a day or two, and c) should we at least add a few days to our time at Le Charme, given the varied richness of the Dordogne/Lot areas,

We have both been to Paris twice before, once a few years ago and could skip it, but we do love Paris!

No ANSWERS expected. But opinions based on experience very much valued.

Thanks.

Mark

Bed and Breakfasts in Dordogne  (6 Answers)

My wife and I have finally decided where in France we plan to travel in mid September.

We would like to find a bed and breakfast place in the Dordogne area where we can stay for a week or so.
We stayed in one in Provence that was perfect, in a beautiful restored villa, with individual rooms that were quite private, and a common eating area on a porch outside. That's our ideal. Lovely house, perfect rural setting, wonderful hosts, an easy 20 minute hike to a beautiful small town, and easy access to daily auto excursions in the region.

Any leads regarding places you know would be very welcome.

We will be looking for a similar place in the Languedox/Mid-Pyrenees area as well, close to Toulouse and Carcassone, but I'll post that in a different forum.

Thanks.

Mark

Holiday in July  (3 Answers)

Hi you guys,
I am thinking of going to the Aquitine area in July. Do you think there is still a chance for renting an appartement for it is in the France holyday time? I did some google research where many places seem to be booked. Last time we have been there in September with a small camper and we had no difficulties... Of course we'd like to be close to the coast (around 10 km would be fine to us). Maybe someone has a good tip for a nice camping site, appartment, b&b? I prefer quiet places more than tourist spots...
Thanks for your help,
Chris

winters in St. Julien de Lampon

We're thinking of renting a place in St. Julien de Lampon (just east of Bergerac) from November to February. Does anyone know this area, and what it is like in the winter months, both in terms of weather and things to do and see?
Thanks for any insight!

Where is this bridge?  (5 Answers)

I have posted a picture of a bridge on my home page. I found it on the Internet and it is described as the "Wobbly Bridge in the Dorgdogne". I love bridges and would enjoy seeing it when I am in the Dordogne this June. Does anyone know its location? -- Thanks

Visit to caves of Lascaux II

My wife and I are planning a visit to the Dordogne region in France in September and I would like to visit the famous prehistoric (replica) paintings in the caves of Lascaux II. However we have a baby girl of 1 year ( by then) and I was wondering if the site of Lascaux II can be visited with a little baby. Much depends on how the visit is structured. The last thing I would like is walking up and down small slippery steps with lights going on and off all the time. If so, this seems to be a guarantee for a crying little girl and might be a very bad idea...

thanks for any help on this topic.

Seafood and camping in Gironde  (2 Answers)

Hi All,

Is seafood (i.e. plateau de la mer, lobsters, homars, king crabs) popular in Bassin d'Arcachon?
I know Bretagny is famous with it. But is it also popular in Gironde?

Second, Can anybody advise good camping in which I can rent a mobile house (end of September). If possible near the oysters farm, by the sea? (3 adults+ 1 baby 2yo)

Thanks
Pawel

Beynac or Sarlat  (6 Answers)

We are trying to decide between a hotel in Sarlat or a chateau 1.5km from Beynac for our visit in September. We will have a car so transportation is not a problem but we do like the convenience of being able to walk to a restaurant for dinner. As long as there is a safe walking path 1.5km is not a long walk to us. From what I read both of these towns sound wonderful so I thought I would ask if anyone had opinions on which would be a better place to stay. Also, any comments on taking a hot air balloon ride in this area would be appreciated. Thanks!

Seafood in small towns  (2 Answers)

Dear Colleagues Dear Lorgnierl, I would like to spend a week in a Gironde area during end of September. I would like to go "off the beaten track" - to the small towns by the sea, find hotel there and enjoy seafood. So my question: Is seafood (crabs, lobsters, plateau de la mer, homars) easy to be found by the sea?. What local restaurant is the best and where? For examble I was in Britanny and I enjoyed Cancale and St. Malo. What is such a place like this in Gironde? Thanks, Pawe³

Travelling in Winter  (1 Answer)

I'm planning a trip to the Southern region of France for mid February. Most of the comments I've read about Biarritz and surrounding area seem to be centered around the beach. Does anybody know how the weather is or whether there are things to still do in the area. I'm trying to pick between here (The basque country and a bit of Spain) or Montpellier. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
