Arriving @ Schipol at 21:30, I will need 400 euros that night to pay for lodging. I'm staying in a private home for 4 nights and the host has requested cash on arrival. I'm guessing that any airport bank would be closed. I have an ATM card, but I don't know if a withdrawal of that amount is allowed.
Dear friends, please advice any unusual restaurants with local food in Amsterdam. Do you know any special?

Hi. I want to study interior design in Asmterdam, so I wanna know which is the best design school in Amsterdam or near Amsterdam?
Visited Amsterdam in 2004 but alone, little bit familiar with the city. I July 2016 travelling with family (3 kids, 11, 8 &4). Therefore need accurate information about hotel, Halal food, attractions and Mosque. I need help on following points:
1. Cheap accommodation in city center. Independent room with breakfast
2. Halal (Muslim) food places, not luxury places.
3. Location of Mosque
4. Tourist attractions like: windmills, landscapes, any attraction for kids, any ferry tour of the city.
Where do they depart from?

Where in Amsterdam , you can safely park your car? Are there safe car parks?
I'm planning a short trip for one day.
My husband and I (in our early 30`s) are arriving in Amsterdam 11/05-16/05, 4 full days.
We have been in Amsterdam once, and visited Van Gogh, Rijkmuseum, Heineken Experience, Anne Frank House and Madamme Tussauds.
One day I want to be dedicated to shopping and I was wondering which day would be the best and not too crowded (THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY OR MONDAY?)
What would you reccomend us to do? What to do and not to miss?
Last question! We are celebrating our anniversary and I want to reserve a special dinner for the 2
I want a special and cool place; something different :D
Your help will help us a lot!
Hey y'all---been awhile since I checked in at VT---my wife (who I met because she read some of my Adam reviews on VT!) and I are finally coming back together for a visit----got a great houseboat for 9 nights and hoping for some good
weather during the last week of May---We want to take the 10 euro bus from Central Station north as one of our day trips (that's still an option correct?)Also want to take the train to Zanvoort area if warm enough for a beach visit...
Staying on the Prinsengracht close to Harlemerstraat----any specifically good places to eat close to that?
Saw a question about Texel that sounded interesting but maybe too far away for a day trip? VT reviewers are the best!
This used to be easy to do online, but seemingly not-so-much anymore.
If anyone has a link to the place on the GVB site where I can punch in my sixteen numbers to check my balance, that will be most appreciated.
I will be in Amsterdam on May 4th and 5th, and was wondering what a tourist should do on those days. So I looked things up and came to the following conclusions - and questions:
May 4th - Remembrance Day:
The place to be (or try to be, due to the crowds!) is the main memorial ceremony at 20:00. There isn't much else for the tourist. Another couple of things I noticed:
(1) The "Silent March" led by the mayor of Amsterdam, from Dam Square (17:45) to Museumplein.
(2) Open Jewish houses, where stories are related about the war period. However, it isn't clear to me whether this is only in Dutch or there are some locations in which the stories are told in English. If there are stories in English, where do you suggest I go?
May 5th - Liberation Day:
The general impression I get is to just walk around the center of town (from what time?) and one will 'bump into' all sorts of festivities. Should I concentrate on a specific area?
And, of course, the (free) Amstel concert at 21:00. Exactly where along the Amstel will it be? In the Magere Brug area only? Or all along the river?
I have been to Amsterdam twice before. Last year I stayed at a hotel in the museum quarter which was not great, but not terrible either. The location was absolutely perfect. I will love to stay there again, but would not be able to afford it because of our currency being very poor lately. I looked into hotels near the airport which are much more affordable. I am trying to compare total cost, taking daily transport into the city into account. I normally use the 197 airport bus which is much more convenient than the train. Can anyone give me advise on this.
Is anyone going to amsterdam this weekend?
What are the best spots (quality and Price) to buy traditional dutch delftware products in Amsterdam and belgian laces in Bruges?
Whats the best way to get to Brussels to Bruges?
I will be immigrating to Ireland in June and will travel from South Africa to Dublin via Amsterdam. I was wondering if 7 hours would be enough to see some of the city, and would it be wise leaving the airport concidering time needed to board our plane to Dublin.
My son has a European passport, and my Schengen Visa is valid till 2017, so I'm hoping it not be a problem leaving the airport and coming back in!
Could you please help me to find the place from photo:
My girlfriend is making a cross-stitching picture of it and we really wish to find the place and take a photo there!
Thank you in advance.
We are scheduled to fly from BWI (Maryland) at 21:30 pm and arrive April 20th at Heathrow at 10 am. Then we fly from Heathrow to Amsterdam 13:30 to 15:30. I figure unless we can hop on an earlier flight (for extra money) we won't get checked in to the hotel until at least 16:00. Normally what I do is try to do something outside and have an early dinner and then crash. But if I do that and have dinner at 17:15 or so, I won't see anything at all of Amsterdam. I was thinking about doing the 2000 evening cruise, but not sure Bob will stay awake. Also it looks like they won't be going through the Red Light district until June. I don't know if we should do a dinner cruise and visit the Rijksmuseum (which I have not been to since I was 12) or if that would be too much to try. Or we might just go to Dam Square and visit the Royal Palace (which I don't think I have visited) and maybe shop. I'd like to buy a small sapphire and diamond ring for my granddaughters 16th birthday so I want a good quality stone, but nothing huge and ostentatious.
We are visiting Van Gogh museum and after we will go to Volendam Park. Is there a restaurant nearby to eat someting for lunch or have a quick snack?
What time the sun sets at 7th of April?
Thank in advance
My son is visiting Amsterdam with his girlfriend and another couple, during the visit, is his girlfriend birthday, so he would like to take her to a nice dinner, but as both are students he can't afford very expensive restaurant for the occasion and let's face it Amsterdam can be very expensive .
Can anybody of you lovely ppl suggest restaurant with good food and bit of romantic setting for somebody on the budget?
I'm going to Amsterdam in May and I'm interested in short hikes or national parks that can be visited by public transportation from the city. I love the outdoors, and finally on my third visit to this beautiful city I plan to experience some nature.
Any information and advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
We are a family of 2 adults, 2 seniors and 2 children (13 and 8). Have been trying to book tickets on DB Bahn website from Amsterdam to Berlin. Not able to succeed, as the number of passengers are restricted to 5 and clicking the other options takes it to another screen where a group of 6 including 2 children also is not working...
Any suggestions as we will need more tickets later through DB Bahn...cannot seem to solve this puzzle...
We plan to be in Amsterdam for 5 days in July. We would like to stay in a neighborhood that is easily walkable and fun for children (9 and 14), What should we see while we are there and what neighborhood should we try to stay in?
I am going to Amsterdam for three days in March with my boyfriend. Can anyone give me some tips or recommended places to see or things to do? Any hidden gems, nice bars or restaurants, coffee shops (i am a green smoker) and any fun activities. I've also heard its beneficial to rent a bike? I know its a city, but any quirky activities, something a bit different to make a memorable trip! Thanks ~ Sarah
How much will it cost from Amsterdam Schiphol airport to Keukenhof Flowerpark by taxi..
I'm traveling with my other male friend to Amsterdam from London on 27th Feb for 4 days. I haven't booked any hotel and neither planned my itinerary.
Could some one advice on how can we plan our itinerary for these 4 days and utilize the time in a best possible way.
We are fun loving guys and not much interested in visiting museums n all. We are happy to stay in hostels but can't decide on which one would be better. Looking for something in city center.
Please recommend some cozy n intimate night clubs and local places where we can get some good smoking stuff.
Regarding local transportation, where can I get the best information?
In sorry to ask too much. I would really appreciate your help and advice.
We are going to Amsterdam May 1st for 14 days. Then a stop in Istanbul for 2 days. We are from Texas and it will be warm when we leave home but I'm reading that it is much cooler there. I am hoping to pack very light with only the essentials..which is going to be a challenge for this Texas girl!
Also, no white tennis shoes??? I read they stand out and you will be spotted as an American tourist immediately.
Any helpful packing tips would be greatly appreciated as well.
Bit of a general question here, have people found that pre booking hotels, b&bs, hostels is cheaper? Or do they charge more on the day? Cause they know your desperate? Or is it worth me planning ahead? Iv planned my whole trip but have a spare 3 days so was planning on flying from Paris, it will be in mid August.
I am travelling from South America, with my fiancee, to Africa. We are spending a few days in Europe (during the winter) and then we are travelling from Paris (CDG) to Tanzania via Amsterdam. We have a 2 hour layover on our outbound and then we are travelling Tanzania-Amsterdam-Bogota with a 5h layover in Amsterdam. Most of our travelling in Tanzania involves light aircraft and therefore cannot carry our winter clothes to Africa. We have thought about taking two carryons and storing them at Amsterdam (for 10 days), picking them up on our 5h layover and taking them back home. I read there are Luggage depot but cannot find where it is. Would we be able to store the bags with a 2h layover from Paris? Would we have to clear customs on our inbound to collect the stored bags??
We went into a shop selling hard-sided luggage/computer bags in the Amsterdam airport last month and my husband found a travel computer case he loved. I am trying to shop for it online, but I cannot remember the brand name. The shop is after Passport control and carried all kinds of nice hard-sided travel bags. Anybody got any idea what I am talking about??
