I am wandering what is the cheapest and quickest way to go from the airport to Amsterdam Central Sation?
Is it train?
I find this website discoverholland.com/Ticket/1...
(4.20 € single ticket)
Is it the right way to book a ticket in advance?
Thank you for your help
Hi [VT member 2743b],
Traveling from schiphol is cheapest by train. The train station is situated under schiphol... and a train will bring you to Amsterdam central station within 15 minutes.
You can also buy your e-ticket in advance at www.ns.nl. That's the official railway company of the Netherlands. Another possibility is to buy a ticket at the ticket machines you can find at schiphol (they are yellow and have NS railway written on them).
Hope you will have a great time here in Amsterdam! Enjoy!!
Last time I was there I just bought it at the vending machine at the airport train station.
This is just a commuter train (no seat reservations) and they run quite frequently, so there is no need to buy a ticket in advance.
The best way is indeed by train. The ticket price depends on how you get the ticket. If you buy your e-ticket online via ns.nl it will cost you €4.20. But you can only pay with Ideal, not by credit card, and discoverholland.com does indeed accept credit cards.
Assuming you don't have a dutch transport chipcard, the only other way is to buy a ticket at a vending machine. However, they charge you a €1.00 mark-up for issuing a single-use chipcard.
The cheapest way perhaps is go with public bus transportation:Bus 197 (direction Leidseplein) to bus stop Amstelveenseweg and from there take the 172 (direction Amsterdam CS).
When going by train select second class ticket at the machine. You still pay a surcharge there!
