Seeing the Terracotta Warriors

I'll be in Xi'an and I'll want to see the Terracotta Warriors of course. I'm a bit wary of organised trips because they all seem to be selling opportunities for various local factory outlets.

So is it better to hire my own guide and arrange my own transport (taxi I presume)? And if I do, should I hire the  guide in Xi'an? Does anyone have any recommendations?

It's doable to go there on your own (I did it and I don't speak any Chinese). It will certainly be the cheapest way to do it and if you want you can always book a guide at the museum. They will certainly come to you to ask haha :).

The official tourism bus is no.5 (306) and starts at Xi'an Railway Station (see picture below). There are some fake buses driving around but it's very easy to spot them. If the driver stops where you are, opens the door and asks if you want to get in, they are probably fake :). The real bus costs 7 yuan and takes about an hour to get to the Terracotta Warriors Of Xi'an. You pay when you're on the bus.Terracotta Warriors Of Xi'an

You do the same thing to get back.

The only metro line in Xi'An doesn't have a stop at Xian Railway Station (don't mix it up with Xian North Railway Station, which is on the metro line) but you can get there easily by buses in the city or by walking. It's just outside the city wall in the north-east corner.

You can go to Xi'an Railway Station and there is a sightseeing bus centre. You can take a bus to Terracotta Warriors directly. The ticket price is under 10 yuan. When you arrive, you can find there are many local tour guide, the price is about 50 yuan?I'm not sure, maybe you can have a bargain. These site guide just make a tour presentation. So you do not have to worry about leading to buy outlets. If they recommend, you can also refuse~

It's better you have a local guide/friend and go to the place by bus. (Taxi takes too much when 2 hours way from Xi'an to your destination is needed)
